hmm the commentator from b eurosport is very knowledgable he says they were very difficult in the second set if there was level errors he would have pointed it out.
 
Updating the list with teams that have received a YY for the rocker portion of the pattern in international competition. It's getting hard to follow this so I've put new additions in bold.

Teams that have earned a YY on the rocker portion of the pattern:

Turkkila & Versluis at Nepela and Minsk-Arena Ice Star.
Tessari & Fioretti at Nepela and Minsk-Arena Ice Star.
Muller & Dieck at Nepela.
Wang & Liu at Autumn Classic and NHK.
Carreira & Ponomarenko at Nebelhorn.
Gilles & Poirier at Nebelhorn.
Kaliszek & Spodyriev at Skate America.
Koch & Nuchtern at the International Halloween Cup.
Moscheni & Fabbri at the Volvo Open.
Stepanova & Bukin at the Helsinki GP.

Just wondering since the judges know that weaver and poje are coming back for the second half of the season if that's playing a factor international judges clearly prefer weapon.

So no, I wouldn't say the keypoints are a small part. They are a huge chunk of the pattern this season. I think this has to be a large part of why so many teams are having such a hard time. Last year, there was only 1 part of the pattern, and the keypoints only included 8 steps.

Spot on ! That's almost word for word what Romain Haguenauer explained to me in an interview this afternoon. [That also answers a question @cocotaffy, in the IDF thread, wanted to be asked and that I found very pertinent].

Yes this makes more sense - I think I may have looked at info about last year's pattern b/c I was just concerned about the keypoints vs. the GOE rather than the actual pattern itself.

I suppose the other question is why so many more keypoints this year? Is that a purposeful change that they will continue with or just specific to the TR and not necessarily something that will be the case in the future?

I'm under the impression they are mixing it up. I don't think we are sure if there will even be a pattern for the Broadway program next season. Correct?

I assumed it would be a pattern step like in the 2016-2017 season, except instead of being one of the patterns, it's the only pattern.

Or we could view it as another form of balance. (I'm good with it. Tango is a traditional rhythm that suits a traditional pattern that already exists and hasn't been done for eight years. IMO, it's nice to have a full tango pattern this season. Broadway/Musicals/Operettas is an open-ended RD choice, and teams will be able to select from a broader range of music if the programs are not compelled to include a previously prescribed pattern. Should be fun!)

Theoretically, this sounds appealing. But unless teams get increased points for the features, then the impact of the pattern would still be seriously minimized relative to the other elements in the program.

I still think there needs to be both a wider difference in credit received by all teams for all levels in every element.

And that the final levels need to be communicated to the judges with stricter limitations on what GOE can be earned if a certain amount of success is not reached. (No frigging plus GOE for a Basic! I'm sorry. I don't care how pretty it looks. You got no no no no. Nada).

Same here. But I love the crescendo effect and it wouldn't be possible without starting that way. To be frank, I'm not at all a fan of Yamagata but I was expecting to like the program anyway because they're capable of skating to "Tata Yoyo" and still make a great FD out of it :lol: So I can't say I'm disappointed. I'm waiting for the whole true thing this afternoon.

Honestly, I hardly see people on twitter who are really knowledgeable enough in the technical aspects of ID. There are very few in tv, commentating, as well. And even them, more often than not will not speak about levels, features etc. Unless there is an obvious problem or they need to make comparisions between top couples, in order to justify the scores. It's very rare though. All you hear is how beautiful they are, how intense bla bla bla. the same general impressions that we've heard so many times.

True but music is a very important part in FS. Music is a language and it's connected with the choreography, interpretation and perfomance. Furthermore, G&F are a tad lucklaster compared with many of the top teams. Fabbri in particular is dull, completely dissapears and she doesn't have that "star quality" to make up for that.

I like Guignard & Fabbri very much this season. They look very ready.

Everything looks polished & performed with ease. I think they have two strong vehicles. Not one. Two.

They are not as fast as a number of the other top teams. And they've been forfeiting points. With the fall at IDF and also a mistake on the twizzles at Inge Solar (which got four +4s:shuffle:). G&F made a great statement at SA with stronger levels than Hubbell & Donohue and also almost getting Stepanova & Bukin during the RD in Helsinki, but appear to be going through that learning curve that comes with oh-wow-we-could-really-make-some-noise-here . . . mistake. Same with Gilles & Poirier at SC and Stepanova & Bukin at Rostelecom. G&F are getting consistent level 3s & 4s though when most teams are struggling. Essentially G&F look ready to break through.
 
P&C look more athletic this season, if that makes sense, on top of all the other improvements they're working on. I'm super pumped they're improving in so many ways, instead of just leaning in to what they do and doing it perfectly.

But yeah, levels not seeming to mean anything this year sure is a throwback to the '90s/2000's. :lol: I should be more bothered, but I like so many teams at the moment, so...
