The 2024-25 Awards Season Thread

And Best Picture is………Anora!!!!! 😮

They probably really needed this in order to have any chance of winning any Academy Awards.

The Penguin wins Best Actor (Colin Farrell) and Best Actress (Cristin Milioti) in a Television Limited Series or Movie.
This made me so happy. Especially after Cristin Milioti lost at the Golden Globes. Her speech was great too.
“El Mal” from Emilia Pérez wins Best Song.

So….for the Oscars……will Karla be singing in the duet? Typically, all the Best Song nominations get a performance. 🤔
They aren't doing the Original Song nominee performances this year. The show will be opening with a performance of songs from Wicked with Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande though.

Thanks - I’m actually relieved; I don’t think the Best Song nominees are overall worth putting in the program.

BTW, Wicked: For Good is supposed to have quite a bunch of original songs. Which makes sense because it’s two films and the combined total run time has to be WAY longer than the original musical.

The Wild Robot wins Best Animated Feature. I think the race between it and Flow will come down to BAFTA. The Wild Robot will probably also win SAG.

The Best Television Limited Series or Movie is Baby Reindeer.
There is no award at SAG for Animation.

At the Annie Awards tonight (Feb 8) Wild Robot will likely win Best Feature and Flow will likely win Best Feature - Independent.

Annie Award nominations - https://annieawards.org/nominations

The Annie Awards are live streamed tonight at 7pm Pacific if anyone wants to watch. https://annieawards.org/watch-it-live

Oops! I get all the categories mixed up in these award shows! 🤦🏻‍♀️

So it comes down to BAFTA……and I’m wondering how much momentum Flow has gotten since winning the Golden Globe.

Thank you, I had been wondering when they were and I kept forgetting to google it. I can't watch because I'll be at work but at least I'll be able to look up the winners after because there's some shows I'm hoping do well too.

Why is that?

No idea. Probably for some stupid reason.

How does a film not win any acting, directing or writing awards and win BP?

I loved Conclave and would be happy if it wins the BP Oscar but really doubt it. What I so want is Fiennes to take Best actor. Chalamet was also great but he has plenty of time.

Conclave also won Best Adapted Screenplay tonight. What’s INSANE is that Conclave also won Best Editing over Dune: Part Two. Weird.

Fiennes is long overdue for an Oscar, IMHO. He should have won Best Supporting Actor in 1993 for Schindler’s List instead of Tommy Lee Jones (The Fugitive).

I think Chalamet is winning an Oscar at some point and he probably won’t have to wait as long as DiCaprio did.

Why is that?
The 2025 Writers Guild of America (WGA) Awards Winners

FYI, the scripts for The Substance (Best Original Screenplay) and Conclave (Best Adapted Screenplay) were ruled ineligible for these awards.

I’m thinking if Anora wins either Best Original Screenplay OR Best Film at BAFTAs in a few years, it’s likely over.

Now about the acting categories……🤔
You have to be a member of the Writers Guild to be eligible for their awards.

It seems the marketing department of A complete known are putting everything in their Oscar pursuit. The movie is still running, though most others gave either left or are reduced to one show per day.

Tim Ch will be interviewed on 60 minutes. I may skip it. He was very good but I preferred Brody in Brutalist. However, I would really like to see Ralph Fiennes win the best actor Oscar. He has done so many great roles! I always thought he should have won for The English Patient.

Thanks for the info - I’m thinking Conclave is sweeping the rest of the Adapted awards. But what about The Substance? I’m wondering now if it will end up being this year’s Get Out.

I saw Chalamet on 60 Minutes. He sure has some good PR people. That said, he’s an incredibly talented young man.
