Karla’s comments are probably the worst but they are just the latest problems for Emilia Pérez. There’s the controversies with how the film portrayed being trans and the transitioning process, Mexico’s culture and criminal issues, and Selena Gomez’s Spanish. Apparently, a lot of applicable communities feel that these were executed sloppily. People Magazine has done a good summary here.

Meanwhile, The Brutalist is dealing with its own controversy involving the film’s use of AI.

And Anora has (what I consider) a more minor controversy involving Mikey Madison’s decision to refuse an intimacy coordinator.

I think she and Kanye have an unhealthy relationship. I don't think she wanted to be naked. There was no brightness in her face. She needs help.
I agree completely, however it doesn't negate the fact that she's regularly naked or semi-nude in public, which for most non-rich people would lead to some sort of repercussions.

Regarding Karla's comments - apparently people are so disgusted with her that Variety has replaced Zoe with Ariana as the supporting actress frontrunner.
At this point I'm wondering if she'll be banned from the ceremony. The official Academy social media pages have apparently unfollowed her...

I'm kind of sorry Zoe is getting caught in the crossfire, but it doesn't sound like a great movie anyway. She can do better.

The final Oscar voting period is from February 11-18. I’m thinking that Best Supporting Actress could be wide open now. Could Isabella Rosselini (Conclave) or Felicity Jones (The Brutalist) actually win? 🤔

Meanwhile, Chalamet (A Complete Unknown) is executing quite an interesting Oscar campaign. And it may actually work.

Timmy seems to be pretty much the only person really having fun with this Oscars season. Also to note, Variety has him as their prediction to win best actor. If he does, he'd surpass Adrian Brody as the youngest best actor winner by a few months.
But then again, Variety also has Edward Norton as their prediction for supporting actor, and I thought it was pretty clear that this one is Kieran's to lose. And he's been pretty inoffensive this Awards season.

Gold Derby still has Adrian slightly ahead, but Timmy a very close second. They still have Zoe winning supporting, with Ariana runner up. And Kieran far ahead of any of the other supporting actors. (They also have Demi as best actress with Karla a distant last).

Most likely Ariana Grande would be the second choice in Supporting with Isabella Rossellini as the possible spoiler. SAG and BAFTA will be very interesting there. I don't expect much from the Critics Choice because their voting period ended ages ago since the awards were originally supposed to be like 3 weeks ago.

What did Karla do? I don’t follow entertainment news.

And we saw A Complete Unknown last week and loved it. Great acting and really true to the time (so far as we remember, I was 8 in 1964.) Wondering if anyone under 60 likes it…..

Essentially, you name a group that a person could possibly be racist or prejudiced towards, and she (over the last 5 years) has made intolerant and/or hateful tweets about them. There's even one tweet where someone said something like 'I feel left out that I haven't been targeted as an Indian' and someone responded with a tweet she made about Indians.
She claimed things are lost in Google Translate (as her original tweets are in Spanish) however native Spanish speakers have said that they are even worse in Spanish than in English.
And it goes on and on.

In addition, she tried to claim that the team around fellow nominee Fernanda Torres is creating a smear campaign against her (whereas in reality Fernanda had spoken positively about her, at least before all this came to light).

Here's a bit of a summary from Forbes that doesn't fully cover everything, but gives you a bit of an idea.

My thirtysomething son liked it, especially the performances, but he thought the script was weak.

Critics Choice Awards: Looks like on the television side, it’s going to be an evening for Hacks and Shōgun.

First upset on the film side: Conclave beats Wicked for Best Acting Ensemble! 😱

The Wild Robot wins Best Animated Feature. I think the race between it and Flow will come down to BAFTA. The Wild Robot will probably also win SAG.

The Penguin wins Best Actor (Colin Farrell) and Best Actress (Cristin Milioti) in a Television Limited Series or Movie.

The Best Television Limited Series or Movie is Baby Reindeer.

Zoe Sandaña wins Best Supporting Actress for Emilia Pérez. But remember the critics aren’t part of the voters for SAG, BAFTA, and the Academy. Also, the critics’ voting ended early last month.

WOW! Adam Brody wins Best Actor in a Comedy Series for Nobody Wants This. 🤩

And as expected, Jean Smart wins Best Actress in a Comedy Series for Hacks.

The Best Comedy Series is Hacks.

Kieran Culkin win Best Supporting Actor for A Real Pain. I guess he’s sweeping this season.

Honestly, all the performances in that category are REALLY good.

WAIT. Did A Real Pain and Deadpool & Wolverine TIE for Best Comedy Film?

Nosferatu wins Best Cinematography.

Don’t forget, all of this is before the crap came out about Gascón.

Plus, it’s the Critics Choice. SAG and BAFTA are typically better predictors of the Academy Awards. But the final voting for the Academy starts next week. 🤔
——————————

Coralie Forgeat wins Best Original Screenplay for The Substance.

Peter Straughan wins Best Adapted Screenplay for Conclave.

Adrien Brody wins Best Actor for The Brutalist.

I’m thinking that Chalamet HAS to win at SAG or his Oscar dreams are probably dead this year. Brody is probably winning at BAFTA.
