The Astra Film Awards nominations list is now out! This is a smaller organization than SAG or Critics Choice, but it’s still a good precursor for what could be coming up.

Wicked is the leading film for nominations here.

I’m still 😒 about how A24 has treated the release of Sing Sing.

👏 for A Real Pain! 😃

🤔 about The Substance. Too bad it wasn’t anywhere near me in the theaters. 😔

Also, Babygirl and Nightb!tch got zero nominations and A Complete Unknown only got one nomination (Chalamet). 😬

Best Actress is the moosssttt crowded

If it wasn’t we would see Pam Anderson Oscar Nominee

If Demi Doesn’t get a nod I ain’t watching lol. The movie Maria will not have legs neither will Queer. So because did that I wonder if Angelina and Daniel will get Oscar nods.

Bumping this thread so we can talk about the awards season stuff here instead of in the regular movie thread with a link to the Independent Spirit Award nominations. I'm really happy to see June Squib got in here for Thelma, I was really hoping the movie would have more of an impact awards wise and June Squib was so good in it. I also love seeing Adam Pearson get in for A Different Man, I won't be able to watch it for several months yet I imagine since we rarely, if ever, get smaller movies here. But my brother also has neurofibromatosis, though far less noticeably than Pearson does, and it's really cool seeing Adam Pearson being successful.

Also to throw a quick mention to the TV side of things, I am very happy that Kathryn Hahn and Cristin Milioti got in for their respective shows, they were both amazing and I really hope Cristin Milioti can finally get a much deserved Emmy nomination next year for The Penguin, she's been doing such good work for so long and she's amazing in The Penguin.

The 2025 Golden Globes Nominations

Emilia Pérez got ten nominations. LOL. 🙄 😒

Shame about how A24 (Sing Sing) and Netflix (The Piano Lesson) failed these movies. Deadwyler and Maclin absolutely deserved to be nominated.

😱 at The Substance getting those nominations! The Apprentice got two acting nominations (Stan and Strong)!

Selena Gomez and Isabella Rossellini BOTH got into Best Supporting Actress. 😳

I think the March release really hurt Dune: Part Two. Not getting nominated for Best Director (Villenueve) and Best Cinematic & Box Office Achievement is INSANE.

Television: 😲 at Nobody Wants This. I guess this show is really good. I have it on my Netflix watch list.

Really happy for Kathy Bates (Matlock) and Pamela Anderson (The Last Showgirl).

It looks like "Anora" might be "the little engine that could" and I love that.

In some ways "Nobody Wants This" reminded me of the freshness of "When Harry Met Sally." And it was well cast.

Kate Winslet ate the scenery, the set and all of the other actors in "The Regime." She feasted. I doubt she'll win but she was worth every minute of that series.

Ted Danson reminded me this year of how good of an actor he is in "A Man on the Inside."

I'm glad "True Detective: Night Country" was not forgotten. Such a good mystery and excellent acting by Jodie Foster and Kali Reis.

I’m just so thrilled for Pamela Anderson, Demi Moore, Margaret Qualley, and the song from the last showgirl “beautiful that Way” by Miley Cyrus.

I was kind of hoping Jamie Lee Curtis would’ve snuck in again for supporting actress for the last showgirl.

I am so not on board this Emelia Perez train, but I won’t keep harping on it anymore. Lol I still don’t understand why there was not more Oscar buzz for the movie Lee starring Kate Winslet but at least she got in there for actress. I can’t get into an Anora either.

The variety article says the biggest surprise this morning were the four nominations for the substance. I hope it slays.

I was so happy to see Cristin Milioti get in for The Penguin. She really is amazing in it. Also my Agatha Harkness loving best friend will be thrilled to bits about Kathryn Hahn getting nominated in the Lead Actress TV Comedy category for Agatha All Along.

I am happy for The Substance, I can't do body horror so I'm never going to watch it but this is a big deal for a small studio and I love to see small studios be successful.

My classic Hollywood loving heart is very happy about Isabella Rossellini's nomination. I do hope she can get the Oscar nomination too because it would be cool to see her get in there with her families Oscar history. Her mother (for those who don't know, her mom was 3 time Oscar winner Ingrid Bergman) in particular.

Also Isabella Rossellini's Instagram is a delight and I love it so much.

Now I have to figure out how I’m going to catch up on TV as well as the remaining movies I have to watch!

I've hardly seen any movies this year. I have plans to see Wicked this week, and I've seen Conclave. That's about it.

Here's a list of the nominations that includes information on where you can stream each of the tv and movie nominees:

Nobody Wants This. I guess this show is really good. I have it on my Netflix watch list.
It's good escapist fun with a talented cast. And, IMO, it's better written than most of these kinds of shows are. Also, unlike some of the other shows in the category, I do consider it a comedy.

The film nominations for The 2025 Critics Choice Award will be announced tomorrow morning! 😃 As soon as I find a feed or nomination list, I’ll post it here.

My prediction here: Sing Sing and Nickel Boys will do a bit better than they did for the Golden Globes. Emilia Pérez won’t be the leading film - the critics know how good it’s NOT. I’m thinking The Brutalist will probably lead.

ICYMI: Here are the television nominations that were announced last week.

🤔 about Conclave’s chances now……

Also, I guess we now have locks for all five Oscar nominees for Best Actor. And one of them will actually be Daniel Craig (Queer)! I don’t think Hugh Grant (Heretic) will get in. And I think Sebastian Stan is going to get hurt by vote splitting (The Apprentice & A Different Man).

Demi Moore, Margaret Qualley, and the substance itself for best picture and Director and screenplay all nominees again at critics choice. Glorious. Notable admission is the Nicole Kidman.

The Oscars has announced its “shortlist” in ten categories.

🤔 at Original Score (Wicked but Dune: Part 2 wasn’t eligible?), Sound (Deadpool & Wolverine, but not The Substance or The Brutalist?), and Furiosa isn’t in the running for ANY craft awards?

The Academy’s voting starts January 8. Hopefully, the voters will mainly stick with Wicked if they are picking a musical.

I saw this earlier today, and I almost laughed …no queer for score and they have all those choices on the shortlist and then no Miley Cyrus for song for the last showgirl. I can’t take the Oscars serious at the moment. Especially when they have that many for twisters …. twisters has to be the worst movie ever made possibly lol.

I thought that Twisters was enjoyable as a “popcorn movie”, and I think there’s definitely space for those kind of movies. In fact, today I posted in the movies thread some trailers that just came out, including Karate Kid: Legends. That’s definitely on my 2025 list, especially to see what stunts Jackie Chan is still able to do. 🤔 😃

BTW, The Academy needs to add a category for Stunts. LONG overdue, IMHO.

But I’ll agree that the shortlists for Sound and Visual Effects are ridiculous. Basically, Dune: Part Two has to end up winning those two Oscars, right? RIGHT??!!

My fave show wins The Peabody Award but is ignored on the award show circuit. The writers of “Somebody Somewhere” gave that cast a lot of meat and they feasted. I thought at least Bridget Everett would be recognized. :drama:

The 2025 BAFTA Longlist came out today!

🤔
1) Angelina Jolie (Maria) is OUT in Leading Actress
2) Nickel Boys, Sing Sing, AND A Real Pain are OUT in Best Film
3) Danielle Deadwyler (The Piano Lesson) and Aunjanue Ellie-Taylor (Nickel Boys) are OUT in Supporting Actress
4) Could Hugh Grant (Heretic) or Sebastian Stan (The Apprentice) get in for Leading Actor?
5) Gladiator II should not be getting this many technical nominations. Especially in Editing, Production Design, and Visual Effects. WAY too hideous, IMHO.

The 2025 BAFTA nominations will be announced in January 15.

So glad Jamie Lee Curtis is on the shortlist for supporting actress as I’ve seen her on some other shortlists as well. Because the last showgirl has such a limited release I don’t feel like this movie is getting the attention it deserves granted it does have two Golden Globe nominations.

It was Jamie Lee Curtis’s character, Annette, that that I wanted to see more of.

Kalshi - Current market betting for tonight’s Golden Globes

🤔 🍿 😆

If “Kiss the Sky” (The Wild Robot) actually wins Best Original Song over both craptacular Emilia Pérez songs, I will leap out of my couch for joy.

I think Best Actor for Motion Picture for both Comedy/Musical and Drama will be 🍿. Eisenberg (A Real Pain) or Grant (Heretic)? Brody (The Brutalist) or Chalamet (A Complete Unknown)?

For Television-Comedy - I think Ebon Moss-Bachrach will be the only winner for The Bear. But is Hacks really a lock for Best Comedy? What about Nobody Wants This? 🤔

Shōgun is probably sweeping everything in Televsion-Drama.

Golden Globes happening about a half a mile down the road from me. Will probably walk down and look at the limos.
My traveling work group walked to an Emmy after party and watched arrivals, surprisingly entertaining. Krysten Ritter was very blitzed (Veronica Mars days so just starting out). If I lived walking distance to that type of stuff I would definitely do it.
