Tessa Virtue & Scott Moir : Just For Us # 45

One of my fav quotes from the Bev Smith article is:

“We give credit to our coaches to not only let us have the opportunity to do something, but also getting on board and making it more special than we could ever believe,” Moir said.

One thing I've always wanted to see from V/M is what they'd do if they were truly in the driver's seat, with the support that comes with amateur competition (as opposed to when they come up with an ex or show program).

I never heard that PJ interview. I do recall them saying they were working on another program for Sochi but Marina felt they were too old for it. I always wondered what it was.

Bieber was a Marie France suggestion and I think there was a reason for it as part of their 2 year plan.

You know what I really hope to see in their MR FD? All the promise I saw years ago in the Pink Floyd FD, and that was almost but not quite fulfilled in their Carmen FD. I hope that now that they are healthy, we can finally see what fans have always guessed/believed they are capable of doing.

I can't believe they're debuting their programs this upcoming weekend, I feel like I'm already nervous lol. Anyway it looks like Mathieu Caron is making their costumes this year again. I wonder if they will be based on that actual picture. Nazarova/Nikitin had some nice words for VM, it's always nice to see positive comments about them from fellow skaters:

(About skating in the same warm up group with Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir)

Maxim:
It was a bit weird for us, because usually we watch them from the bleachers, when we’ve finished our own skate long before that. We watch and cheer them on with all our hearts! And now [while they were skating] we had to prepare for our performance. But we still wanted to watch them skate, because they are our idols. And it helped us, they energized the audience and energized us.

Alexandra: They gave us positive energy and drive. Pity we couldn’t see the whole dance, only parts of it, because we had to prepare ourselves.

- Could you believe you will skate in the same warm up group with them?

Maxim: Never!

Alexandra: It was a dream come true!

- Was their decision to return to compete right, what do you think?

Alexandra: Yes, we were waiting for them to come back.

Maxim: I’m sure they can make comebacks even 150 times and every single one they will still be the best in the world! I have no doubt.

I'm underwhelmed by his costumes. I feel like designers struggle with Tessa's frame and don't have her looking her best.

I think that is just the movie poster. I'd be surprised if it's based on that particular dress as she wears that at the beginning of the movie and I don't think works as well for later in the story. I can imagine a few outfits from that movie he could work with and imagine some ideas where they can play with a few outfits throughout the movie to make one dress but will leave that to my own imagination and see what they come up with.

I'm underwhelmed by Caron's costumes too. I feel like this is the one area that they did not need to change at all. Their costumes were always gorgeous and exquisitely constructed. Their one memorable costume from last year was from the SD, and it was on Tessa's insistence that it be a one piece. (She does enjoy jumpsuits.)

RIP Jef billings

I find (almost) all her tailored competition outfits starting from Olympics 2010 till present were great/fabulous. Did she change tailors at any point since then? (I don't know) Hoping for some sultry, classy look for MR from Tessa. Costume in movie poster looks ideal (like sequins, and "bling"(? is that how american say), no top hat). Can't say what style I like for Scott ...the relaxed look or half formal look (Victorian-style? Was educated from a friend that MR is in 1890's). Curious ...

A friend sent me this ... think it from funny face - Scott's hair style here is still my favourite :p

it's crazy that i'm actually (seriously) nervous for them. Like, giant butterflies in my stomach. I know I say I hope the best and fair judging ... but same time, it's so unpredictable (like what happened in Season 2012-2013 till at Sochi Olympics). Stupid nerves, I know ...

Working weekend (for me) while ACI streaming so may try to sneak in here to see what's happening ...

Here's me hoping big for killer SD&FD chereography moves on ice this season! :D

I'm also incredibly nervous for them! I know it's difficult to compare teams but after hearing all the reports of P/C's programs I'm even more nervous for them. I just want them to put out programs that'll help them reach their potential for once, especially since it's their last year competing. I don't think I can handle a repeat of 2014 with seasons. If their programs are solid then it's just a matter of them really nailing it in competition which I know they'll do because they seem really well trained.

Hahaha! I am nervous too, but this is what we ALL wanted, including them, so I have to remind myself of that constantly. I am bracing myself for the crazy train that this season will be. I have almost zero doubt that their programs and P/C's are going to be fabulous and it will come down to the actual competitive performances.

If V/M hadn't come up with MR on their own, I'd be in a panic. But seeing this is a program that they truly love makes me not worry about it. When you love something as much as they seem to do, its easier to make adjustments and hear feedback because intrinsically you're confident in the material and your vision. I didn't get that feeling in 2014, which is what upset me so much.

Interesting, how soon people forget buzz about TS FD at HPC and believe in what one person said about PC programs :)
Yes, VM have a big problem, because they already had masterpiece Latin FD and AD and it will be difficult to made something better and people will compare VM SD with VM SD, not with PC. For PC this is much easy tasks - if they will show even a little progress comapre with last season SD there fans and judges will be all over the Moon.

And this buzz about PC will be forgotten just as quickly. You're so afraid that VM might lose that you already have the excuses ready in case they do. In that state of mind - pessimistic - you won't be satisfied on the judging except if VM win. Get out of this cycle, pani, or else you won't be able to enjoy this olympic season...

I have not forgotten the clips I saw from HPC! Just a few more days!

I just want to say, that buzz was from other skaters, not from VM uber, like in PC case.
We could end without masterpiece programs at all, just wait and will see. We all know how PC will look like and know that this team have a lot off fans and Didier with his 2002 OG experience.

While I enjoy PC i find their offerings very static. That is why their fans get excited with the little progress they are able to accomplish.

I am looking forward to more VM masterpieces.

From what Patrice said, teams came to the coaches this year with what they wanted to skate. That's what makes it exciting for me. Everyone is executing their own vision, not the vision of someone else. For V/M, that's especially exciting. I can't wait to see how they view themselves and what they can do after 20 years of skating together.

someone from tumblr found a clip about a chinese ice dance team that did almost the exact same FD (and costume) as V/M (without the 'shadows' cello segment): http://m.youku.com/video/id_XMzAxNzQ4NzUwMA==.html?source=

I'm not sure if it's a tribute or an actual FD though. I do wonder if there are other teams in the past who have programs or outfits inspired by V/M
Several months back, someone posted a youtube video of a team skating to their Latin FD music - pretty much the exact same cuts....it was BIZARRO. And yes, I have seen junior skaters who were dressed similarly and obviously inspired by them after the 2010 OG.

Post script - oops, sorry @marbri!

That's interesting. Do you happen to know the name of that team who did the latin FD? One would think there would be restrictions or regulations on having exact music cuts or choreography because that chinese ice dance team literally copied half of their lifts and sequences.
