Tessa Virtue & Scott Moir : Just For Us # 45

That's interesting. Do you happen to know the name of that team who did the latin FD? One would think there would be restrictions or regulations on having exact music cuts or choreography because that chinese ice dance team literally copied half of their lifts and sequences.
That`s probably Evdokimova/Bazin https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IB5aPzI7-Ww

He apparently "choreographed" the program himself.

I just want to say, that buzz was from other skaters, not from VM uber, like in PC case.
We could end without masterpiece programs at all, just wait and will see. We all know how PC will look like and know that this team have a lot off fans and Didier with his 2002 OG experience.
Sigh. I don't want to hijack this thread so I won't talk more about this particular subject after this post.
But I don't understand why is it important to stress who created the "buzz". PC's fan are most of the time without news on their favourite skater and then get excited when they have solid news. Nothing new.
And the DG point.. Well what can I say. If all french skater are now not worthy of any medal because of him in certain people mind, so be it.

I do not recall their names but they were terrible and the whole thing was laugh out loud funny. Perhaps someone will see these posts and post the video. We had a discussion at the time about such a blatant copy of their work. But there are no actual ISU restrictions.

The Russian team is what I would call inspired by them. It´s not the blatant copy the Chinese team did and saved themselves a big bill from David Wilson

Important, because for fans even if there favourite skaters just step on ice - it's masterpiece. It's important for adequate judging.
And a lot depend not just PC or VM programs, but from camparetion programs. And even after we will see VM and PC we couldn't say nothing because we need to see SS, CB, CO, WP.

Several months back, someone posted a youtube video of a team skating to their Latin FD music - pretty much the exact same cuts....it was BIZARRO. And yes, I have seen junior skaters who were dressed similarly and obviously inspired by them after the 2010 OG.

Post script - oops, sorry @marbri!

this may be it..https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OIh9FOBiMk4..I think it was Bazin in the test skates...not sure...male dancer had said he did the choreo himself.

Is the Chinese team skating a tribute or something though? It's hard to believe they would actually compete doing the same program. Maybe it was an event where everyone skated their favorite program or something?

ETA: I wonder, is it something where young teams learn by copying or something? But why go so far as to even dress the same? This has me so intrigued....

And now that I have trashed that poor Russian team, I should add that of course it is a total compliment to V/M that anyone would be inspired by them and lots of teams have. :)

I wonder if there is any way of protecting choreography? Yuri on Ice lifted the Latch choreography too. On the one hand, stuff like that is good publicity. But I wonder if someone wanted to protect it, could they?

No, I don"t believe they could. I wonder if the judges would drop the choreo mark if they recognized a program or choreo from another team?

That's definitely something I wish ISU could discuss but I don't see anything happening tbh. As much as I like seeing Yuri on Ice feature V/M's choreo, it annoys me that none of the show's creators mentioned them. And I've heard them talk about other figure skater influences (ie. Daisuke T., Plushenko, Machida etc.). If you wanna showcase their choreography, then make sure to credit V/M (and their choreographers) so that more people (especially new fans) can learn about them and the discipline too

I don't think that's realistic, very hard to enforce. It'd be like opening a can of worms, you could have some skater do a twist on something another created and the last thing this sport needs is the bs that would introduce the original skater tried to stake claim to something. Like I don't think what the Russian team did is terrible, clearly inspired by a program they liked. I suppose one could try to argue that for the Chinese team but I see that differently as they didn't borrow, they just took and at best it's incredibly lazy, but I imagine when they did that they didn't expect their performance to be viewed by FSU posters all over the globe. I wonder how often it happens that we never see.

As for Yuri on Ice, didn't Madison Hubbell say recently in an interview they all watched it and laughed at the choreography they lifted from V/M programs. I think Tessa and Scott were there so it would seem they don't mind that. That is probably just fun and flattering for all the skaters they imitate.

In the Reddit AMA that Madison Hubbell and Zach Donohue did, they got asked if they'd watch any of Yuri on Ice and Madi responded that they "had a laugh about it with Tessa and Scott because they actually made a video with all of their choreography".

Exactly. Can you imagine the fights and griping that would ensue? It would be insanity.
