Tessa Virtue & Scott Moir : Just For Us # 45

Here is the link to Hotel California danced as a rhumba that I mentioned earlier.

Maybe Tessa and Scott took some inspiration from this?

Nothing against V&M or any other team, seeing this rhumba on the dance floor further confirms my view that of all the gold-level dances one has to master in ice dancing, the rhumba is the one pattern that does not translate well to the ice despite the best efforts of some great teams.

Agreed. It's the most boring pattern ever, and doesn't resemble any kind of floor rhumba at all. Why the ISU keeps picking it is a total mystery to me.

Wanted to share this little tidbit from Hubbell & Donohue's Ask Me Anything Q&A in case people missed it. They were asked if they'd seen Yuri On Ice:

Yes I have. Last year when we all had a good laugh with Tessa and Scott, because they actually made a video with all of their choreography! It is impressive the amount of work that goes into creating those animations!

Darn, I wish we could see that video!

Who on earth can make the pattern dance look that fantastic? They just PLOWWWWWWW down the ice. The edge work is magnificent. There is something about years of experience that cannot be taught. I have watched coaches like Natalia Deller at the Detroit Skating Club demonstrate correct entrance and exit edges to her students and it almost looks like she had a procedure done on her feet to dislocate bones to get her boot to almost touch the ice lol. It's no different in something like Weight Lifting where the old school guys have unbelievable form and stabilizing muscles that make what they do look easy from years and years of training it the right way. When it comes to dance technique, Tessa and Scott are just superior. This is one portion of the competition that lends itself to their talent and refinement.

I'm so happy that they are skating to something that they love so much (MR). That should really help them through this long season.

2014 they seemed unhappy with their FD the whole season.

I look forward to seeing their joy and love for skating and MR.

Yep Hotel California for the rumba. https://twitter.com/lfpress/status/903012117753675776. It's good. So good already.
Looking good already :) Can't wait to see this program from start to finish...with their chosen outfits!

"...They brought in choreographer David Wilson again and called on Sam Chouinard, who had previously helped them with hip-hop movements. They convinced their husband-and-wife coaching team of Patrice Lauzon and Marie-France Dubreuil the famous old cabaret in Paris was the way to go..."

Cabaret, hip hop and ballroom? All my favs moves coming from V/M. So thrilled! Can't wait also see how these choreographers bring their ideas/elements together.

Thanks for these links, Shayii! :)

The fact that they chose MR on their own makes me really excited. One thing I always wondered about V/M was what vision they had of themselves. They've skated so many programs that have executed other people's visions of them. I wonder what we'll see....

You know what's really crazy? The skating techniques people are so in awe of are not gained along with their age, VM actually showed these amazing qualities at a very young age. That's why they are the youngest ice dance OGM. I'm so proud of them.

They always had amazing skills, but you can't tell me it's not even better now. There's something really amazing with the way they're using their blades that I think is learned with years of practice and performing. They say skaters do improve in those aspects as they get older (and still working on their skills) and I have to agree generally speaking.

You're so right. It never worked fully for them. It looked like it should have been scrapped. The dresses never flattered Tessa, especially the green one she tried. I bet they stood their ground like Gandalf in Lord of the Rings ( YOU WILL NOT PASS) in terms of not budging on MR. I'm awaiting it.

I'm going to have to rethink my 17-year hatred of Tango de Roxanne. First Karen's SP makes me tolerate it in a way I didn't think was possible and now V/M's FD may make me actually LOVE it.

where did you watch it?, please a link.

eta. oh, I get it, is the Alaine instagram

It's on Alaine Chartrand's Instagram stories. I can't listen that loudly right now what are the songs they chose?

This is why I do not give a hoot if V/M choose warhorses. They make every program their own. Are the snippets not FABULOUS? ps. I love Karen as well :)

This music cut actually has me excited. It looks far more theatrical and dramatic than I thought a V/M Moulin Rouge program would like. That Roxanne tidbit looks straight from Carmen.
