Tessa Virtue & Scott Moir : Just For Us # 45

T and S couldn't really do a ballet with P and C around.
It would put them in direct comparison.
Not saying they would lose in a side by side comparison, it's just I don't feel it'd be wise for many reasons.
If they feel MR is special, then I'm happy.
Also don't think Scott takes much of a backseat in general. That is not my impression of his personality.
I think he agreed to do FF because it was so special to Tessa, but I feel certain he speaks his mind about most aspects of their programmes.

I do agree with you...as much as I want them to do a ballet I don't think it's wise either. I'm hoping that it's a very different programs than PC's so there won't be so much comparison between the two.

One of the things that annoys me about ice dance is that fans judge placements based on how much they like the music or program when all of that is so subjective, even if it's natural to do. It can't be called a sport if we think one team should beat another based on music (I know no one is saying that right now, but it's just something I've always seen). I just hope T/S have the programs and performances that they love. They're skating for themselves now so they should choose music they want. Of course, I'd love to see another Olympic gold come with it, but we really can't predict how judges and audiences will respond. Carmen never got the respect it deserved from the judges so who the hell knows what'll happen!

True, but actually, are the judges who do it. Get a good program and almost automatically you can to get a step seq called level 4.

Hi Everyone
Long time lurker and huge fan of VM and first time poster. So it looks like the SD music cuts are Sympathy for the Devil/Hotel California(eagles) and You and I (Santana). I'm still trying to imagine how they're managing to make this work! I feel like if done right it might be brilliant?
Welcome, @elisa_p! :) Do you have a source or link for "You and I" being their Santana piece? (ETA: assuming it wasn't the London Free Press' FB video?)

Looking at their interests on their website, I can see Tessa being the more passionately creative one of the two with Scott going with it and then working hard to sell it after the decision is made. However, it seems he and Tessa feel strongly about Moulin Rouge.

How did you get that from what's on their website?

Thank you! I've listened to the video linked above a few times and I also though Scott mumbled something about You and I by Santana. He also said that he didn't want to give too much away when Tessa started talking. LOL.
I thought he also said there won't be too much of the vocals for Hotel California? But it's so hard to hear I couldn't be sure. It's great to see them so healthy and happy though!

Meant to add I thought I hear You and I from Scott after the "little Santana at the end bit" when the reporter asked them if it was Hotel California. But it is hard to hear!

Hahaha! Scott on Moulin Rouge "It comes from within us. We really love it and skating to it feels special. I don't know what it will look like (he starts laughing); it might be a complete mess but I can tell you that we're having a blast when we do it and we feel a pure - kind of a special connection to it and so hopefully that will show through".

Yes, that it what he said. Hotel California has a very long acoustic guitar intro to it so maybe he means that. And re SD his exacts words were "It kind of mixes the Stones and the Eagles and little Santana even at the end."

His mumbling was annoying lol I couldn't make out what he says after Santana.
It WAS annoying. Here is an excerpt re the SD:

He said it does sound like an odd combination of music (paraphrasing). He also says "It's a bit of party, but we love the material and it gives a chance to dance, which is what we love to do".

ETA: He also says re Hotel California - "It kind of plays with you for a little bit"(meaning it is not obvious right away that it is Hotel California)

Here is an extended version with a beautiful, brilliant acoustic guitar intro - I wonder if that is what they are using?

I've seen Hotel California danced as a rhumba by ballroom dancers so maybe they are using it for the rhumba portion.

In any case, I can't wait to see it now!

Reading earlier comments. I agree we should give them at least chance to show what they've created over the break. It's like we want them to win so bad, being it's Olympics season, but they need positive encouragement from us fans too. Alexandria's comment is on point. We must also trust judges to give them the marks they (and other skaters as well) deserving for performance of the day. T/S are beautiful, experienced skaters. They somehow almost always surprise us with how the music makes their pieces work. Again, I keep going back to what Tessa said last season, that is to "trust the process".

Absolutely. When I personally get nervous or concerned about their music choices, I remind myself that they have never once disappointed me with their selections. Ever.

would love to see that guitar intro as a rumba! it takes a while to picture it. such an original idea, at least for ice dance standards. it has a beautiful wistful feeling of longing, combined with an exquisite Spanish flavour. its certainly not the obvious 'sultry' rumba that everyone expect. i do think its the best selection of the season so far.
