Tessa Virtue & Scott Moir #48: Long Time Running

P/C knew they were toast as soon as V/M hit their final pose and the crowd erupted. It was done. The judges would've needed security to leave the building if they didn't give the gold to V/M.
Not only that, but they clearly won the short dance by a much larger margin. They should have been much further ahead of PC after the short dance I also think PC's free dance lacked the intensity that it had at the Grand Prix Final where they were the clear winners.

What do you do when there is nothing on TV and you miss Tessa and Scott? You watch a compilation of Tessa and Scott's 2004-2014 OD/SD's and FD's. I think I have a problem ;). I'm still in awe of their skating skills, musicality and versatility. If it were up to me they would never retire. :D

You can also add the compilation of their Exhibition numbers from 2006-2018 plus few group numbers and one Tessa solo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-s0gJQwEGo

I don't think skate order would've mattered in the final result. V/M skated better than they've ever skated and a prime V/M will top P/C everytime if the judging is fair..

But P/C won the FD. And V/M had only a narrow lead in the SD.

Some people may disagree that V/M will always top P/C - some may consider the two teams as equals, whereas other might even assert that P/C are superior. I prefer V/M, but recognize that I am biased.

Also, one has to question how fair judging is ice dance is. It is the most subjective of the disciplines in that there are few falls and no jump issues.

I think dance judging has gotten better as the result of CoP, but dance results are still somewhat predetermined, more so than the other disciplines. Olympic programs seem to be judged on the basis of their being Olympic worthy, and this year the judges indicated that P/C fit this description better than V/M. The same was true for V/M in 2010, and D/W in 2014. And in the past, dancers have clearly been pre-ranked as best, second best, and so on.

As I've said, I think skate order did make the difference and P/C would have won had they skated last.

MR was an easily accessible program, not surprised they won that poll.

Tessa truly is cute on her responses to some tweets of others. :D

Hindsight is 20/20.

When comparing V&M's SD to P&C's SD. P&C had the more "traditional" program for the rhythm thus would have probably won it if they had skated perfect by a traditional set of judges.

I think both FD's were Oly Gold worthy. I love both for very difference reasons.

The difference for me was legitimately how perfect V&M skated. They were so in sync. It was amazing.

You know, I didn't like the MR program when I first saw it. I didn't realize the extent of the changes until I watched the GPF and realized the change in the music was a huge improvement (at least to me). I adored P&C's MS program. It was beautiful, mesmerizing, hypnotic. I thought there was no chance for an OGM with the MR program.

However, when I saw them skate it at the team event, I thought, wow, it's so much more improved. I was hooked. And then the individual event just knocked it out of the park. I totally agree they skated it in the individual event as good as it could be skated. It was amazing and it is now one of my favorite programs.

I agree. It’s really amazing the difference the changes they did made. I went from freaking out when they announced they were skating to Moulin Rouge to disliking the program at ACI (and that continued with version 1) to loving it at Nats and finally being blown away at the Olympics.

Anyway this is an impression from an Olympic athlete herself that had never seen ice dance, but was there for the FD that night: http://dancetothelimts.tumblr.com/post/172629067612/just-thought-i-would-share-this-clip-from-the

Wow...good to know it is just not us.
I think given the debacle of PCs SD marks which had a huge uproar on twitter and the amazing FD that TS had the judges just had to give it to them.

I always knew it would be an awesome program right from the beginning. Also their SD.

Overall I thought it was great skating from all the disciplines. Sometimes that doesn’t happen. Hard to believe it’s been almost two months.

In multiple fan cams you can hear audience members in the background absolutely certain they’d won it the second they hit the final pose. Nobody in the stands thought that they would or should be second. The ISU should probably be grateful, I think they might’ve been in for a world of trouble had it gone the other way after the SD controversy.

They’re doing an MJ exhibition? Cool! Their schedule is insane until the summer, Japan must pay a ton.

Thank you so much! Tessa and Scott did it again and made me adore a performance despite hating the music. They are just so good! I also really love the closing group number. They just shine when they are on the ice despite being surrounded by so many other excellent skaters. They just have something special.
Oh, and Scott must be in heaven in the opening number, the only guy surrounded by three beautiful women :D (The outfits, however, are horrible...)

I'm gonna brag a little bit here......I posted the link to their ACI programs on FB in October 2017 and said that I believed they had 2 programs that would bring them Olympic Gold. Another skating friend found it and shared it again after the Games. I didn't even remember!

Whee (a bad imitation of a squeel in written form :))!!! Thank you so much, ximianKernel. I so love this. I don't really like those exhibitions that are like a row of a team's/skater's signature elements and/or elements from their latest competitive programs with some some small hints of choreography in-between, and that's why, not being a Canadian, I could not truly get into Tessa and Scott's 'Long Time Running' Ex. Sure, their skating was beautiful as always, and it was nice, but I felt like it was lacking in choreo and new things a bit (and I don't necessarily mean new elements).

But this is so different. It has Tessa and Scott's signature elements and things from their recent programs - it's almost like a tribute to their, probably, best years of competitive skating in that sense - but all of that is inserted into/interspersed with some absolutely new choreography, and it looks like a completely new whole. That's also why I loved their 'Top Hat, White Tie and Tails' exhibition - it included the best parts of their wonderful 'Cheek to Cheek' SD, but also had completely new choreography.

I’m not a huge fan of the new exhibition on first watch just because I always think stationary hip hop works against their amazing skating skills, but I appreciate that they’re such good dancers they pull it off anyway. Scott’s every bit as good as Tessa in this, which is quite the feat because she’s obviously the one who usually shines in all their very modern dance-heavy programs.

Thanks so much...cannot wait to see it in Toronto.

Can't watch either video, the fan one says too many views, the other is blocked for copyright :(

Thanks for the links guys. I don’t like this program You Rock My World, but I’m kind of biased because I’m already a bit irritated they’re not working with anyone else besides Sam (yet). Anyway it doesn’t matter who cares what I think lol.

I care what you think :)

Thanks Kitty you’re the sweetest! Reading my post again it sounds negative. I’m not irritated that they’re working with Sam he’s a great dancer and seems like a great person. Just hope they’re open to working with others as well. And the ex is ok I don’t hate it or anything.

I really really really want to see what Camerlengo would do with them, just once. He’s the most musically intuitive ice dance choreographer around IMO and V/M have unbelievable musicality.
