Tessa Virtue & Scott Moir #48: Long Time Running

Thanks Kitty you’re the sweetest! Reading my post again it sounds negative. I’m not irritated that they’re working with Sam he’s a great dancer and seems like a great person. Just hope they’re open to working with others as well. And the ex is ok I don’t hate it or anything.
We all know here that the last thing you are is "negative"! This is actually why I care what you think; because you are one of their biggest and most loyal fans. We don't have to LOVE everything they do!

Thank you so much! Tessa and Scott did it again and made me adore a performance despite hating the music. They are just so good! I also really love the closing group number. They just shine when they are on the ice despite being surrounded by so many other excellent skaters. They just have something special.
Oh, and Scott must be in heaven in the opening number, the only guy surrounded by three beautiful women :D (The outfits, however, are horrible...)

I hate the music too for the 3 links posted above .. not a fan of MJ but of course VM dance like no other.

I love to see V/M dance hip hop off-ice but it really doesn't translate well to the ice. And they've done 3 hip hop programs in a row! In this one there's barely any interaction between the two of them, it's mostly posing side by side. I was hoping to at least like one of their SOI programs...

They obviously love working with Sam but if they spend their remaining touring years doing Sam's hip-hop programs, it'll be disappointing. They have so much more to offer.

I agree that I'm not the biggest fan of the hip-hop on ice programs because they're very static - the fluidity and edgework of ice dance and figure skating in general don't mesh that well with the static rhythms of street dancing styles. I think Sam is great, but I would also love to see them work with others. I would love to see another Suzanne Killing exhib - Tennessee Waltz was one of my favourite exhibition programs of theirs. I would also love to see more cheeky, playful programs like the ballet dancer/hockey player program or the Beethoven ballet program with the barre as an accessory. I also really loved Jack and Diane, the little piece from Up that was used as a transition piece in CSOI one year, and Stay.

You are always disappointed in VM, so no news. At least you don't need to watch them anymore, why bothering to watch videos from shows? Why you even watched this video?
TS show what they do the best and nobody dance like this.

Thanks for the links guys. I don’t like this program You Rock My World, but I’m kind of biased because I’m already a bit irritated they’re not working with anyone else besides Sam (yet). Anyway it doesn’t matter who cares what I think lol.
I watched their program and I don't like this program either. On top of it all, they skated it very slowly.

I don't see these two as being show skaters for long. I think they need the pressure of competition to be at their best and to thrive. They seem to thrive on the pressure of competition. They need a challenge. So, in my opinion, I think that they should compete for however much longer as they think that they would want to tour on shows. Anyone else like this idea?

Re the new MJ show programs - they had less than a week to go back to Montreal after their press tour, to learn a new program and prepare themselves to live out of a suitcase for the next couple of months. I am going to give it a chance to grow. I think it was a good choice at this point, given the love they know people had for their Prince SD. In fact, now I shall go watch that SD and smile for the rest of the day.

I actually like the new MJ number. I got people say there are less skating more dancing in it. But this is a show number not a SD or FD. People wanna see the big elements and the exciting dancing with the music. I think it fits perfectly for the occasion. Of course they can do a flowy number because they have done that before. I think they'll definitely mix it up in the future. This is V/M we are talking about. They are harder on themselves than anyone else. We can just relax and enjoy whatever they're bringing.

I'm surprised anyone is worried they'll only work with Sam. They worked with others during their two-year sabbatical - how quickly everyone forgets Jeff Buttler choreographing for them.

I'd be more concerned they go on to do dated, slow programs only as touring professionals.

I finally got to see this and I really liked this program. Love the dancing, the lifts and their expresssion was wonderful. Sigh. I could watch them forever. Thanks so much XimianKernal for posting this.

I like the program ok.
But I want to see something a bit different in the future.
But I can’t fault them here.
They didn’t have a lot of time
Next year should be interesting.
As much as I would love them to continue competing, they couldn’t possibly leave on a higher note.
I think they should be done.
I think it’s too much of an assumption to say they only thrive on competition.
They haven’t had much of an opportunity to prove otherwise.

I sincerely hope they join Gadbois as coaches/ choreographers. But I doubt that will happen.

Scott might, especially a technical coach. But Tessa seems too invested in fashion and psychology. I could see her joining B2ten.

They’ve both said they’re staying in Montreal. Now, what they’re gonna be doing I don’t know. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Scott join the Gadbois team or B2ten not sure what Tessa has lined up there. I remember her saying she wants to pursue a MBA.

Tessa said they want to show something not for judges and accordingly ice dance rules. So they did this. I think there dancing skills improved since Good Kisser so much. Can't wait to read reports from CSOI and did audience like this number or no. I think a lot of criticism going from people who love FS and ice dance, but because nobody could show dancing link this, it look unusual for them.
And I agree they love competitions more then shows, but I see how happy they look in Japan and how they look great in group numbers too.

As far as I remember they will do two programs at CSOI, MR and MJ. So I think the MJ one is a good contrast to MR, so combined with the group programs they can show their range and musicality.
In the future I would love to see a new lyrical program, a really "showy" program (like the Italians do so well) and a funny one (I still love the hockey / ballerina ex).... Ok, I'm thankful for every new VM program :D

Didn't Scott say in one interview that he will work for Gadbois and B2ten or was that just a fan report? My dream scenario would be for VM to be like DL, the new coaching/choreography dream team. The only downside to this is that I would be really, really invested in competitive ice dance again... ;)

Tessa indicated in an interview that she would like to challenge herself academically. She said she has taken some psychology courses and IIRC would like to study Business Management.

There’s nothing wrong with them at all - I just am not a Michael Jackson fan.

I agree with you. This program is terrible.

I have tried to watch it a few time. There are elements I like but overall, I don't feel I will be missing it if I don't see it live.

I am kinda kicking myself for not getting tickets to see SOI but this girl has a camping trip planned.

I appreciate that someone at CBC has the job of making emotional Virtue/Moir fan montages :D The one immediately post FD was gorgeous, as was the one in 2014 when everyone thought they were done then.

The way I see it, Tessa and Scott just want to offer themselves a moment of sheer enertainment after a long and tiring Olympic season and get the audience clap along with the music. As a Michael Jackson fan, I'm not complaining at all about V/M using one of his pieces. And as Pani said, Tessa and Scott can dance like no other.

To be fair, any program would have been a slight let down after Moulin Rouge. When I saw them in 2010, I was hoping to see their Oly program and did. I don't even remember the other program they skated to that year. :shuffle:

Happy they are doing MR on the tour.
