Zach Donohue also went and was saying how amazing it the show and the crowd was on his IG stories. He was especially impressed by Tessa and Scott and Jeff Buttle. After the show he picked Tessa and Scott's Moulin Rouge as his favourite program.

Actually it appears that Zach went with Olivia Smart, Tim Koleto, and Misato Komatsubara. And they all met up with Sam afterwards. Marie-France and Patrice were there too.
The live IG session was at a restaurant. They all chose Tessa and Scott as the highlight. It was a fun live session. They were answering poster questions and even Maddie "face timed" Zach and you could hear her saying hi to everyone. They were having some drinks and were so excited they were asked to quiet down by staff. Sam was so excited and clearly so very very proud of his babies :)

Scott Livingston, one of their trainers involved with B2Ten, has started a podcast. His latest episode features Scott Moir :)

A Creative Cat on Blades with Scott Moir:
https://player.fm/series/leave-your-mark/ep-8-a-creative-cat-on-blades-with-scott-moir

Everyone should listen to this. It’s long, but an absolutely fascinating dive into the mental process, working through his creative insecurities, the retirement transition, being a man in figure skating etc. I already had huge respect for him but gained a ton after this.

ETA: It also sounds like they want to create their own show in the future to get to smaller cities in Canada? He speaks about him and Tessa wanting to work full time on something and being all in the artistic process rather than turn up for 2 minutes to do their show number.

Yes everyone should listen to this! Not only does Scott come off as an amazing guy who is reflective of past behavior and psyche and all about wanting to be a better person and help others but there’s also great career news. I love that idea of a tour with their own artistic vision and taking it even to smaller cities (those who think Tessa is getting out of skating, take note). So exciting! Scott also seems less interested in traditional coaching and more into development and mental stuff. Seriously, if you’re a fan go listen!

Listening my way through the podcast now. I could listen to him all day. My favourite thing so far:

"And when I give 100% and kind of go - what I think would be seen as over the top - is when Tess goes "Yes, that's it, I love that. Give us that"."

It is of note to me because of a discussion in the G.O.A.T.? thread about how much I love their performance execution.

(Part of the following is a repost from my post in the CSOI thread in GSD.)

I was at the Toronto show tonight and as a veteran audience member of CSOI (I've gone almost every year since I was a kid in the mid-90s), I have never seen a CSOI show as sold out as this one. Between the new security measures at the Air Canada Centre and the absolutely sold out crowd, the lineups to get through security and into the arena were huge, up to half an hour long (or some people said longer, depending on when you got there). Hearing the chatter in the line and in the crowd inside, I would say at least 50% of this crowd seemed to be Olympic-year casuals who are (probably temporarily) obsessed with Tessa and Scott. (I say this not as a VM uber, but as a long-time fan who gets annoyed hearing casual fans shrieking about shipping them and having conversations full of fake knowledge and wrong "facts" about their career. :p )

My favourite parts of the show were the "Fields of Gold" number by the team gold medal winners, V&M's Moulin Rouge (obvs  ), both of Patrick's programs, Javi's "Promise' (beautiful!) and Kaetlyn's "Lost". I also loved the closing number, mostly because I'm a sucker for musicals and "You Will Be Found" is my favourite song from Dear Evan Hansen. Meagan and Eric's numbers were not really my thing, but they had some great tricks in the vein of Brasseur/Eisler's SOI days that made the crowd gasp repeatedly.

I'm still not a huge fan of the Michael Jackson number, and it definitely got a more muted (though still very loud) reaction from the crowd than MR did. MR was definitely the loudest cheer of the night, along the with Team Canada "Fields of Gold" number and Patrick's "Hallelujah".

Loved watching Tessa and Scott in the group numbers as usual. I get whiplash when VM are in a group number that Patrick is also in because I don't know who to watch. I love watching Patrick skate so much; his stroking is so effortless and pure that it is beautiful even without any other moves or music.

Just got back from the Toronto show. Wow! Probably my favourite show so far. I'm not normally an emotional person but there were a few moments that really struck with me. Fields of Gold was wonderful, as was the final group number. Obviously Moulin Rouge was the highlight for me and we were so lucky to be so close to that beautiful curved lift.

In any case, here's the full video of Moulin Rouge, I'll upload the MJ skate later. Camera work by my trusty hubby...I handed him my camera because I just wanted to enjoy the skate.

There was one sentence which gave me chills....identifying talent.... This is my pet peeve...There is only a small % of Cdn's who can afford figure skating. It costs a lot of money and talent is not born with dollar signs on their forehead. Talent is often born into welfare families...people with mental disabilities people with alchoholism and so many who are just making ends meet so their kids will do sports which have very little or no outlay. My dream would be to once a year hold free tryouts..ie open skating supplying kids without skates with 2nd hand skates for the session narrowing down to maybe 2 kids who would be given lessons for the yr. ie arena paying part...skate canada part..maybe get a sponsor . If they work hard and planets are aligned they get another year etc etc.

Scott Livingston has already uploaded his interview with Tessa Virtue for his podcast. What a nice treat to hear both of them speak about their process.

The Magician on Ice - Transcending the Dream with Tessa Virtue:
https://player.fm/series/leave-your...-ice-transcending-the-dream-with-tessa-virtue

It really hit me in the feels when she talked about years and seasons of being injured and how Scott was healthy and she felt guilty that they could've live up to their potential at the time. You can tell that she didn't want to get too into it because it makes her emotional and is something she's still working through. But at least she recognizes that they may not have had the last 2 years without that.

It's always a nice reminder to hear skaters talk about their pain and struggles because we can sit here on the internet ripping apart inconsistency or perceived flaws, but there's always a story behind it.

Just finished listening to Scott’s podcast. What a truly insightful and intelligent interview/discussion. I’m going to listen to it again once I get a chance. Will listen to Tessa’s when I have time tomorrow.

Very true. I can totally relate to what he’s saying. I myself have learned so much from going through things .. some not pleasant but you experience, learn and grow.

Great interview by Scott ❤️

Tessa’s podcast was naturally more reserved but equally as insightful. I really hope she truly doesn’t still blame herself for their 2009 and 2011 seasons not going to plan. I hadn’t realised she’d been considering a third surgery. 2013? There was that incident during Carmen at 4CC that rival federations and commentators made a huge fuss over.

I listened to Scott’s again and picked out a few things I’d missed before. Doesn’t he imply if not outright state that he and Tessa did most of their own choreography for their Sochi programs? Around 21 minutes, after the discussion of them having expected 2014 to be like 2010 in terms of input from Marina but having to be independent after they realised they weren’t going to get it, he says ‘we created it all and we’re proud of that’. I’d love a full tell-all about that Canton set up but alas, we’ll never get it.

I think a lot of times when looking back at VM’s career, because they have been so incredibly successful, it’s easy to forget that Tessa competed hurt for a significant amount of time.

In the interview when she talks about looking at their competitors and thinking they’re great but also they didn’t have the obstacles that her and Scott did, that resonated with me. Because very often I see the argument (particularly in the GOAT thread) that because DW had more dominant seasons etc. VM can’t be considered GOAT. I can’t help but feel that the fact that those two teams had almost identical records in the time they competed against each other is a testament to Scott and Tessa’s talent, because they did that despite 2 seasons of injury. And who knows what sort of career they’d have without her injuries.

In the interview it did sound like Tessa still carries some guilt that her injuries affected the team and their potential. But I like that she noted that maybe without those obstacles they wouldn’t have had Pyeongchang.

I’ve changed my mind. Forget the Tango Romantica, they should retire officially tomorrow, continue making thousands from Japanese shows and chuckle at the thought that they escaped what is likely to become bedlam at Gadbois just in the nick of time (but if they want to do the pattern at SOI I’m cool with that) :p

I believe they are still going to be doing their show programs there.
