Survivor: Winners at War

I enjoyed this episode. I don't think Parvati and Natalie asked for enough with the extortion reward, and it didn't amount to anything since Tony won immunity and didn't have to bear any consequences of his double dealing. However, Tony definitely moved up in my estimation this week. Every episode, I keep thinking he's going to blow his game up by showboating so much, but he acted with great stealth to rein in Jeremy and blindside Sophie. Sophie was a great choice since I think she has been a snake in the grass who could win the whole thing by putting one threat after another on the jury without drawing attention to herself until she sat at FTC. She made a rare unforced error to reveal her strategy of quality over quantity on her Survivor resume, though I don't think Tony chose her for that reason. However, he accomplished multiple purposes by ensuring that Sarah won't have another ally to turn to, and Jeremy will be in his debt for being saved and for having another big target to hide behind now that Tyson is gone. I can't see Tony being in trouble next week either despite the preview since he still has a HII, and he will know to look for Sophie's as well since she told everyone as her torch was snuffed that she had it in her pocket.
 
This episode really was all about Tony, and his patience is paying off. But I think he maybe played it a little too hard because of the corner he was forced into with the tokens and I can't see him being one of the final three. I suspect somewhere either next week or the one after, two people from the opposing sides are really going to take notes and figure out he's playing it down the middle. It would actually probably be best for the underdogs to say they are still working with him and then at least attempt to get rid of him now, leaving the Denise/Kim/Michele/Jeremy side left to take out the others.

Still feeling Sarah and Michele in the finals. And I'm torn between Denise and Kim, but I'm leaning towards Denise. I think it's going to be all women though. Just have a feeling.
 
That was certainly the Tony episode, and really they had no choice! I thought the extortion thing was hysterical, and wish that we had Parvati and Natalie's reactions when they got the six tokens, and then when he showed up at TC with the necklace! My guess is that the producers limited the number of tokens they could ask for, probably knowing that Tony had 3 already, so having to double that. Made for some excellent tv, and gameplay, the way he was able to talk not one but three people into helping him - I was amazed!

The other huge thing is not only did he save Jeremy, the TC went exactly as he told him and Nick it would. They're either with him to the end now, or will want to get rid of him immediately, because wow.

Not feeling Kim this season, and I was a fan her first time round, still like Sarah for the win and that fashion stuff was a lot of fun, but her blowing up at Tony next week seems more emotional than game for someone at this level. Y'all keep saying Michelle is getting a winner's edit, but I don't see it - totally unimpressive to me, and if she makes it to the end, I will be very disappointed if she gets a single vote considering who she'll be up against.

As of this moment in the game, the only person who deserves to be the winner among winners is Tony IMO. His game is close to perfect at this point, and yet still totally who he is.

I've been impressed with how she has managed to stick around so long when her name has come up a lot and without ever having a really solid alliance. It's not a lot of flashy moves, but she has stuck around way longer than I would have guessed.

Yes, I agree, and she has had a couple of moves that were too emotional. But I think it's a bit of who she is, just like some of the crazy stuff Tony does is who he is.

Y'all keep saying Michelle is getting a winner's edit, but I don't see it - totally unimpressive to me, and if she makes it to the end, I will be very disappointed if she gets a single vote considering who she'll be up against.

I actually think that's the edit Michele is getting - the person who makes it to the end and gets no votes. That said, as someone who did not think she deserved to win in her original season, she has drastically exceeded my expectations and turned out to be a better player than I gave her credit for. Maybe we just didn't see it enough in her first season.

As of this moment in the game, the only person who deserves to be the winner among winners is Tony IMO. His game is close to perfect at this point, and yet still totally who he is.

I've never really been much of a Tony fan and thought he was overrated as a winner, but even I have to agree that he has been pretty impressive this season.
 
Fun episode.
I love, love, love how Natalie and Parvarti were thinking who would cause the most drama.
Tony is hilarious and I really thought earlier they showed him as comic relief. But like the season he won - his mind is always working.
I agree - Michelle looks better than her previous season and how Kim keeps flying under the radar in some ways.
I am not sure who I want to win.
And when is the challenge to get back in from Exile?
 
Tony is running away with it by miles at this point, but I still don't think he's going going to be there at the end. I actually could see him not having immunity and either not playing his idol or giving his idol away and getting screwed. Most everyone else besides Denise has absolutely no big moves yet, and they have to be thinking that would be their chance.

But who knows what the sides are now. Michele should've kept her advantage. Jeremy clueless most of the time, Nick is being pulled in every direction, and Ben is paranoid all the time. Kim, Denise, Michele, Jeremy, and Nick really should've made the move to maybe even get Sarah this week, but alas..

ETA- Michele gave her advantage to Jeremy and voted for him anyways thinking he was screwed. I know she thought everyone was voting a certain way and gave it to him before all the tribal council stuff, but what a dumb move. Telling him that he was screwed and they were willing to work with him would've given her, Kim, and Denise a fighting chance in a tie, at least.

I'm not so sure Ben and Nick will stay on board with Tony and Sarah, and honestly they'd be dumb to do so unless they get to 5 and screw them over with whoever else is still there (and the idols have been played). That person coming back is almost certainly not going to work with Tony knowing he would win the game easily.

BTW- next week being 2 hours, you think it's the final edge of extinction battle? It would be a little odd to throw someone back into the game in the final episode of the season, but who knows. I think the finale is in two weeks.

And what do we think those fire tokens are actually going to amount to? People having to give them to each other to be able to get back in?
 
Maybe I'm missing something but I wonder if Denise, Sarah, and Michelle will target Nick since they thought he was voting with them (although based on all the tribal councils, who can know?).

I'm definitely interested to see what happens with Edge of Extinction - there's been a lot of buildup, hope the payoff is good!

I haven't watched Survivor since season 2, looks like I've definitely been missing out.

Wow! The game is so different than it was for the majority of those first seasons, where people were likely to stick with their tribes and vote the entire other side off in order. Rob (not the one here) from season 6 may be the very first person to really throw all those ‘rules’ out the window and screw people over left and right to try to get to the end. You should definitely go back and watch some of the older ones to see the evolution into the constant paranoia and scrambling that it is now. There have been some amazing seasons- but definitely skip over 38 and 39. They are among the very worst.
 
Have we heard any speculation about how they'll handle the finale in this time of *****-19? Surely they won't have a live audience!
 
I read the finale will be remote and taped in advance. I can’t remember the details and I’m too lazy to look it up right now, but they may break the contestants up into groups to make it easier to have some conversations.
 
Once again Natalie kills it in a brutal challenge. It exhausted me just sitting on my ass watching them run that beach. :rofl: Is Natalie an extreme athlete or something cause that girl is amazing! If Tony isn't gonna win, then I want Natalie back in the game and her to win.

It would be yet another travesty if someone out so early in the game came back to win. I hated it in season 38 (I liked the guy well enough, but not the way he was handed an advantage so late in the game that essentially guaranteed his final 4 spot... ridiculous). I know Probst's whole thing is this 'experiment with the journey as a whole' and I think they also figured it was an easy way to get more screen time in a season full of all winners. But this gives those players so much more time with the others who will determine who wins. This season, most everyone knew each other prior to the game. In 38, some jury members never even had a conversation with two of the finalists but they definitely knew the one who got back into the game.

But.... having said that, a final with any three-person combination of Ben, Nick, Michele, Jeremy, and whoever comes back... I may just say screw it and HAND the win to someone else. Seriously. There's been next to no gameplay from them and they either freak out and run around paranoid or go along with what someone else says as opposed to coming up with their own paths to the final. Even Sarah has been on the wrong end of so many votes and is generally in the dark about the biggest moves, but I still have hope that she does something big. Denise had her one big move and was playing a good game early on but she's been pretty clueless or on the wrong side of things in the second half, too. And no, those paranoid players all teaming up to vote out the biggest threat would not be a huge or surprising move. I like Tony a lot, but I really just can't see him making it to the end when he's the ONLY one doing anything effectively at this point.

This game is kinda limping it's way through.
 
Agree that Tony owns this game right now. Unbelievable that no one tried to vote out Sarah and cut him off at the knees.

Why are they all so paranoid about Jeremy and so certain that he'll win if he gets to the end? He's done nothing on his own, and at this point is only there because Tony wants him there.

I sorta see part of what Tony is doing - which is important because too many of these winners came with one plan (ie Kim trying to repeat her all-girls alliance, which never works except the one time she did it), and Tony's got a bunch going at once. Tony is getting everyone to owe him. Jeremy and Nick do for sure. Sarah does because she's still there and he offered her his idol (which at first seemed stupid, but I guess at this point nearly all of them knew he had it anyway), and really I guess he was saying "do you trust me that I've got this?"

As for the return of someone yeah they are having to work hard under what appears to be worse conditions, but I still don't like anyone coming back this late in the game. Playing around with offering advantages and tokens is not the same as scrambling to save your own ass every three days.

And the tokens - they have been interesting a couple of times, but at other times it seems so random and pointless. Somewhere I'd be interested to see a tally of who has how many at this point. Ohhhh this would be good - instead of doing another challenge to get back in, what if it's all a negotiation? Those still in the game can try to get back who they want (either someone they can work with, someone who can beat their foes, or someone who can't beat them perhaps), and the exiles can counter offer, something like that?

Just seems so stupid to let someone back in at this point - especially after what happened a season or two ago, and Tyson's rather inglorious short return already this season.
 
Count me in on how Jeremy is a threat? I know he is a nice guy.
But this season - Both Jeremy and Ben whom I was glad won when they did - just can't root for them this season.
I am so confused at times as to who is with who. Ha ha
Tony is entertaining and playing hard - they are dumb to not get him out once he doesn't have immunity.
And also - I love Natalie - but too late for her to come back in.
Why did Denise want to vote? Did she tick some people off the way she demanded it?
Michelle - is a bit under the radar, but has relationships with many and involved in things. Hmmmm
 
I think both immunity wins were foreshadowed pretty obviously with Nick and Michele being the two desperate to win or they were out. I'm respecting Michele a lot more after this episode. She at least sees the path to the end while others are just going along with what Tony says. Nick thought Tony was his 'main man'? In what world?! It's to Tony's credit though to be such a beast and still have no target. But it isn't that Michele is a bad player, she's just stuck with a bunch of people that will not budge in their own (terrible) plans.

I still don't get why Denise is so tight with Ben and why Jeremy, Denise, Michele, and Nick could've just agreed on one of the other 3 and blindsided them and ran the rest of the game. None of them really thought they were in danger. And even at 6, that group of Nick, Michele, and Denise should've been able to at least tie things- Ben and Tony are sitting with idols still, right? And everyone knows Tony has that idol from the week he was considering playing it for Sarah.

With the amount of people on the Edge with idols that can still be played, one of those people is likely to be handed final 5. Tony and Ben would be stupid to not play theirs. I'm really wondering if there is a twist of only final 2 considering the amount of potential advantages that would still be left.

Those people on the Edge are sure as hell not wanting to pull Tony to the end, and the numbers seem to honestly be there for the person coming back to be handed the win (even Natalie as the very first taken out). They've once again all bonded by staying on the Edge and enduring all of those challenges.

ETA- both tribals and the summary of the season went on way too long. I know they want the finale to be packed with drama, but the battle back should've really been this week seeing they had 20 minutes of filler.
