Spins of a different character

I feel like an idiot for not being able to figure this out on my own- but for programs that require "3 spins of a different character" does that mean that the following three options are the only ones available?

1. Spin on one foot only with multiple changes of position *or* spin with change of foot but no change of position (so sit/backsit or camel/back camel)
2. Combination spin with change of foot and change of position
3. Spin with a flying entry

(For example I am trying to determine the exact intermediate/novice adult well balanced program requirements)

thanks!

Hmmm, they usually say "spins with different abbreviations". I'm not sure I've ever heard "spins of a different character" used. It may be worth checking with a judge, things might be different where you are.

For example, I do USp/CUSp because the spins only have to be of different abbreviations.

Oh, thanks. This is the USFA handbook.

@misskarne "Spins of a different character" is the language used by USFS domestically, but yes, it's the same thing as "spins with different abbreviations." @Clarice is right that if it uses a different IJS code, it's a different type of spin.

Yes, different character = different abbreviations.
(There is an exception for forward and backward USp on the lowest freestyle tests.)

It looks like the adult masters requirements do not specify spin in one position or flying spin or combination spin.

So it would be possible to do all combination spins if two fly and one doesn't or vice versa, and two change feet and one doesn't or vice versa.

It would also be possible to do all one-position spins, as long as they use different positions and/or there is a mix of with and without fly and/or change of foot in the same positions.

Some adults just can't get into all the positions any more, so I guess this is to give options for still being able to include three spins at these levels. But judges might prefer to see a variety of positions if possible, and reflect that in PCS.
