I think it's because they were having issues long ago with teams in the later game collaborating to ensure they both went through.

Russia didn't deserve to get to the knockout stage the way they were playing.

Fingers crossed for Finland, though. Love their home jerseys, easily the best ones of the whole tournament.

We watched Germany vs. Portugal in our favorite pub on Saturday. That was another great game. Now the media are all over Robin Gosens who is playing a great tournament. Barely anyone has known him before and he debuted on the team not too long ago.

This is standard practice for soccer matches at major tournaments since the infamous West Germany-Austria “Disgrace of Gijon” at the 1982 World Cup.

One of my TSN channels is replaying the Russia/Denmark game right now. There’s a Copa America game in a few minutes, and I’m trying to watch NHL playoffs too.
I‘m going to be flipping channels like crazy the next couple of hours.

Another 2-2 draw between France and Portugal

The Germany-Hungary and France-Portugal matches were really intense.
We went to our favorite pub and the boss even brought an additional tv and placed it in front of the pub for the France-Portugal match, while Germany-Hungary was broadcasted inside.

The bf and I stood next to the entrance and watched both at the beginning, but at some point France-Portugal was much more interesting, so we decided to stay outside in the cold and watch that match and we were the ones to call the boss outside whenever CR7 had to do the penalty. I have never ever seen anyone cheer as much for CR7 in person as this guy. He and I were also like probably the only people in the pub who genuinely like CR7.
