Royalty thread #15: A New Era

I keep getting articles about Kate's anger to Camilla's restriction on how many people she could invite to the coronation. She was allowed only 4 family members: her parents, brother, sister. Her siblings weren't even allowed to bring their spouses while Camilla's entire family was present. Apparently neither William nor Kate bowed to Camilla when Charles & Camilla left the cathedral. I wonder how this will play out going forward.
The media loves to pit the woman against each other and I think the best reaction is to just not reply to it rather than she made me cry stuff.

I would seriously hope Kate wouldn’t think her guests were more important than Camilla’s at Camilla’s coronation.

I do believe Kate and Camilla might not be that tight. I remember during Meghan and Harry's wedding Camilla was giggling at the preacher and kate gave her what I'd call the "teacher look." A mix of sternness and disdain.

Very good spread of photos here of the wedding of the Jordanian Crown Prince.

The bride is Saudi Arabian.

Very fashionable event.

I don’t know much about current life in Saudi Arabia so I found myself googling a bit.

Kate, William and Beatrice and her husband also attended.

The Middletons - Pippa and Kate’s parents also went. They seem to enjoy Jordan.

Has anyone visited Jordan? I’ve heard good things about it as a holiday destination. I’m even more curious now.

Petra is a bonafide bucket-list must-see. And the Gulf of Aqaba is a great beach vacation.

Princess Eugenie had her baby last week, a second boy: https://www.instagram.com/p/CtHP0o6o6oi/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

So cute!!!

Edit: the baby's name is Ernest George Ronnie. Royal reporters say the palace confirmed that Ernest is for George V, whose middle name (one of them, anyway) was Ernest. George is for Eugenie's father-in-law, the baby's grandfather, who passed away last year. Ronnie is for Eugenie's maternal grandfather, Ronald Ferguson.

This might be a fashion first: Kate had an engagement today and wore casual ballet flats instead of her usual stiletto pumps. I've never actually seen her in flats.

Not a first:

Not sure if this is okay - but if it is not then hopefully one of the administrators axes it. I have been searching for a site that provides good information on the British royal family. I have come to really enjoy "Palace Confidential" with Jo Elvin. She is joined by guests - two most common are Richard Eden and Rebecca English - both from the Daily Mail royal desk. They seem to have very good sources and I like the way they present the news of the day with little back stories and interesting insights. They do, of course, report on Meghan and Harry, but they don't seem to dominate the conversations.

She has definitely stepped up her game since becoming Princess of Wales. She was always lovely and dressed appropriately, but there’s a new glamour to her in the last few months. The red was so surprising yesterday, she’s always worn white or pastels to Ascot before and more often wears cooler (i.e. blue) colours in general. But she looked AMAZING in the red. Loved the photos of her and Sophie yukking it up in the royal box, they seem to have formed a solid friendship.

I read that the RF wore neutral colors as to not upstage Queen E who always wore bright colors so that people could see her. Maybe Kate doesn't care about upstaging this queen. Or maybe she was tired of neutral colors. I know I would be.

What really gets me about royal fashion is that the tabloids often have articles about Kate & Meghan copying each other. The slant as to who is copying who depends on which camp the reporter is in. Ridiculous! I really don't think either gives a hoot about each other.

The last major occasion I remember Kate wearing red was the pageant on the Thames for QEII‘s diamond jubilee, and she was roundly criticized for it for that reason (the Queen wore white or silver, if I recall). But when you look at the photos, the boat they were on had red drapes and decorations, so she blended into the background and the Queen stood out. They know what they’re doing. I’ve also read that about wearing neutrals to not upstage the queen (or whoever the most senior royal is at the event) but I think it‘s more about coordinating and not upstaging, and that does often, but not always, mean neutral colours.

The Meghan vs Kate who copied who stuff drives me nuts. They are both beautiful women with very different styles that sometimes overlap. No one is copying anyone, there are only so many ways to wear clothes. I find the “tribute to Diana” stuff every time they wear something the same colour as Diana once wore even more annoying. I do think with Kate in particular it is sometimes a conscious nod to Diana, like the dress she wore leaving the hospital with George that was so similar to the one Diana wore leaving the hospital with William. But more frequently it’s just, again, there are only so many ways to wear clothes. Especially as a high ranking member of the royal family.

Especially since Kate's outfits are likely planned in advance/approved by others and Meghan probably has better things to do with her time than look at tabloids to see what Kate wore. (Or maybe it's all a big conspiracy by both women and they're secretly in communication or something ;) )

Just for one day I would love to be tall and slender and have no boobs or hips and wear all the clothes that I can’t normally. Kate always looks fabulous, and can wear pretty much any colour.

As Kate is widely rumored to have an eating disorder, you should be happy as you are.

I’m going to go make myself some bacon and eggs.
I thought the red dress emphasized thinness to the point of thinking eating disorder.

For the last time: the eye test cannot determine an eating disorder. It doesn't mean Kate has one or that she doesn't have one. You'd have to be around her enough to see the red flags, like disappearing after meals to the bathroom or having an overly regimented eating schedule.

And I'd bet hard cash that none of this on this forum or any of the people speculating elsewhere online have that kind of access to her. So, maybe we should all just shut up about it?

People really don't understand eating disorders IME. For one thing, they take many forms. People with bulimia often aren't thin at all, for example. Another eating disorder that may not show is orthorexia, which is when you are obsessed with "clean" and "healthy" eating to the point that it interferes with your life.

And lots of people combine an eating disorder with excessive exercise. Not to mention, if you have minimal body fat, all your muscles show so you look "ripped" even if your muscles aren't particularly big at all. So having visible muscles isn't a sign of not having an eating disorder just like not being super-thin is also not a sign you can't have one.

I have no idea what Princess Catherine's deal is (as do any of us), but some of these comments about eating disorders bug with their ignorance.
