Royalty Thread #13: Zooming in on our favorite royals

The three children apparently represent three diverse children acknowledging her great love for children. Does anyone know of a book they would recommend that highlights her many acts of kindness - to AIDs patients, to the sick, her work on finding and dismantling bombs, etc. and omits or just doesn't feature her insecurities, marriage problems and early demise?

That 3rd child is barely visible.

The whole statue is okay but kind of off too. I think whoever paid for it should get their money back.

I am sorry, but I think that statue is butt ugly. Diana was a gorgeous woman, and that figure in the statue is not gorgeous, warm, or compelling. There was so much to capture in her spirit. I hope someone does another one.

I'm glad I wasn't the first to say it. It doesn't really capture her at all. Funnily, there was some outrage a while ago about someone's statue looking NOTHING like the person. Does anyone remember that hilarious statue? I forget who it was, but someone very popular worldwide, maybe not royal. Oh wait, Cristiano Ronaldo maybe?

I admit it's not what I expected, but they seem to be happy with the reveal. I secretly hoped it would be a young Diana dancing.
That would have been so totally awesome! There are so many great moments with this iconic woman. She was so vibrant. So alive. So flippin gorgeous. And she loved those boys soooooo much. I wanted to see that Diana.

I think part of it is that Diana's beauty came not from her face necessarily but her warmth and charm which is evident in photos and videos. The statue cant really capture any of that and doesn't capture the loving body language she always exhibited with children.

One of the issues is that we remember her as a much younger woman. This monument is a dedication to a woman who would have been celebrating her sixtieth birthday should she have lived. I believe she died at exactly the same age as Prince Harry is now - 36. I would assume there was some debate over memorializing her as we picture her - or as a mature woman - a grandmother. It is made doubly challenging by the fact that we have seen and continue to see her in film regularly as the shy young lass, to the beautiful and stylish young woman, to the joyous young mother, to the sad and haunted figure, but never the content and happy mother and grandmother.

A Twitter user named Alex McDaniel did a thread of Princess Diana as SEC schools. If you follow college sports in the US, you will find it hilarious.

Well..yeah..duh. the point of the statue is to remember her...as we knew her. Not to see a statue of someone we never knew. To me that makes no sense.

Its not 1921 anymore. Wimbledon is so stuffy and stiff. Someone needs to push the envelope a bit, why not Kate?

I was actually trying to be sarcastic (not very well, I know). I just to thought the jean suggestion was quite humorous given how well Meghan Markle's jeans went over a couple of years ago.

Oh, I knew you were‘t serious! And I don’t remember what Meghan wore a couple of years ago anyways. I just like denim jackets with long flowy skirts in general. No matter what the venue! :D
