No she didn't have a strong short but she landed 7 triples. The top three was Sotskova, Serafina, Med. It was a strong competition. I looked at the protocols and the TES Polina was putting out and thought she had a shot at the Olympics. If I'm not mistaken though, didn't Polina bomb her FS at JGPF that year?
I'm just saying it's a realistic possibility. International judges are going to be way stingier with Zhou on GOE and PCS. A skate full of underrotations would bury him.I disagree with the 15-20 range placement for Vincent. I would take a bet on it.
Care to elaborate? The sport is a total sham.

So Nats mean nothing now? I don’t think it’s justified sending Adam over Ross. I always thought the body of work thing was about if someone really had a bad night but was phenomenal otherwise ir Nathan had a rough outing, he would still be selected. And Ashley deserved to go in 2014. But ugh.
I’m not even a Ross Uber. This just makes me upset for him.

Nationals is "part" of the criteria......And the "body of work thing" doesn't talk about being phenomenal. It lists events, etc.
Yes, this is my opinion as well. Rippon's "body of work" is better than Miner's but still mediocre.
The JSF also "shared the wealth" in terms of assignments. Curious to see what USFS does with the Men.It is interesting though how this "body of work thing" is used by different federations. A lot of people thought Wakaba could have possibly been on the Olympic team over Kaori based on the body of work criteria but ultimately the JSF went with Nationals results over other criteria. Seems to be the opposite here.
Kaori skated back-to-back clean competitions while Wakaba can't get through a free skate without popping. And her bombing at Worlds is a big reason why Japan only has two spots in the first place. I love her, but she isn't the best at skating well under pressure. JSF's decision made total sense. It is interesting though how this "body of work thing" is used by different federations. Next time, just announce the three byes to the Olympics before Nationals. What a farce.

That would be a good idea..and perhaps it will be done..But, for now the criteria that was set..is in place.I would like the Usfsa to publish weight put on each criterion, e.g. They could list nationals at 50 percent, GP medal 10 percent, GPF medal 15 percent, and so on (I just picked numbers out of the air). This is like a performance review at work. The criteria are well defined. The Usfsa needs to publish the percentages at the start of each season, then publish the numbers for each skater in question. It is not necessary to do this for All the skaters obviously. That would be a waste of time.
I say that because it’s also quite possible Zhou will be < and << into the 15-20 range.
That's something that USFS could consider for the future. If body of work is getting a skater there, just announce before nationals that e.g., Chen and Rippon have earned their spots and one spot is up for grabs.
Why do all of your arguments constantly revolve around the male skaters you like? You lay into Zhou like you originally laid into Chen for beating your favourite skaters. At least now you have to bite your tongue about Chen because he’s proved himself.
Who says Jason doesn’t have the 3A?? He’s been struggling with it in competition but he hasn’t “lost” it.
But Russia flat-out manipulates its nationals results to make sure the correct people medal. Sotskova had an incredibly-nervy FS, with lots of cheated jumps. But they weren't called and her PCS marks were in the 9s. They want her on the Euros team, which she deserves based on body of work, and they give her the marks to make sure that happens. They avoid controversy by fixing the results. Unfortunately for Voronov, Russia didn't want to fix the results in his favor so no body of work can save him.

Well, I think it would be more fair if that just announced before the competition that the team is going to be a combination of Chen, Rippon, Brown, and Zhou, and tell the rest of the skaters they participate in Nationals but not in the Olympic selection. To those who disagree with this decision:
Do you disagree with how the selection committee applied the published criteria, or disagree with the published criteria entirely?

Sounds like a rational idea. Bad for national ticket sales though. That's something that USFS could consider for the future. If body of work is getting a skater there, just announce before nationals that e.g., Chen and Rippon have earned their spots and one spot is up for grabs.
Terrible idea imo. would those 2 even show up at nats? would Nathan have done quads or singles if he wasn't worrying about his spot?

there is no prescedence for bumping the silver medalist. I was gutted for adam but he is not more reliable than ross. this is shameful.
I think if the criteria are close or unclear they would go with national finish which is what they did with the ladies. That way they don't have to figure out percentages or weigh anything. This is why I want to see the numbers- percent weight on every component of the criteria- at the start of each season. No need to announce the selections ahead of time, not even Nathan's or the Kneriems in pairs ( we knew they would be selected).
