RIP Prince Philip

This headline annoys me. It makes it seem like it's all Harry's fault when you know Andrew wanting to dress as an Admiral is the real issue. (Can you imagine the headlines if that had happened?) Plus all this pussy-footing around Andrew and shielding him from consequences just annoys me in general.
Yeah I don’t think we know of Harry was complaining. Although it is possible. But we dont

Truthfuly the Queen doesn’t need this. However I do think this pushes the can down the field. Technically Andrew’s military appointments were never dropped so he can dress as vice admiral the fact that he is insisting on a promotion he didn’t earn.

He apparently tried to talk to the media now to clear his name. Something tells me when Charles is king Andrew won’t get away with all of this.

As for Harry the rules are retired military members cannot wear their uniforms only medals and since his appointments we’re striped he cannot.

There is a photo of Prince Edward walking with his siblings at Queen Mums funeral in a suit while the rest were in uniform. I believe he now has some appointments but must say I appreciate Prince Edward and Princess Anne and their no nonsense attitude and acceptance of their roles.

This going to be said what will they do when the Queen does no military dress for her funeral?

My understanding is that for a state or royal ceremonial funeral, retired military members CAN wear their uniforms, so Harry could wear his Captain's uniform.

The real issue, though, does seem to be Andrew hankering for the Admiral rank that he agreed to put off at the time of his 60th birthday when the Epstein scandal was at its height and that he wouldn't get the higher rank until he returned to active royal duties. And, nope, I don't see Andrew getting away with any of this once Charles becomes king.

According to the article, someone "close to" Andrew denied that Andrew was insistent on wearing that uniform. Believe what you want.

There was a big fuss on Twitter yesterday over Edward ever wearing a uniform at all, since I guess he never even completed his military training? First I'd heard about that.

I think he does have some honorary appointments now?
So what if he didn’t serve regularly it’s not for everyone. Edward seems to be very no nonsense and honestly he, Anne, and Sophie are going to be needed with Harry stepping out.

You don't have to "think he does". It's very easy to look something like this up. It's all on his own website.

But honourary appointments don't always require wearing the uniform, or allow someone to wear the uniform of the company with which they have an honourary appointment.

And in this case, it does matter whether he served, because that's part of what determines whether he's entitled to wear a uniform.

The ceremony will take place on Saturday, April 17 at 3 p.m. local time, or 10 a.m. EST.
...
The funeral will be broadcast on a number of British networks, including BBC, Sky, and ITN. In the U.S., NBC News will carry the broadcast beginning at 9:30am EST on both their network and their streaming service, NBC News Now. CNN will also air the funeral, beginning coverage at 9am EST. For Canadian viewers, CTV News will begin live coverage of the funeral at 8am EST.

Princess Anne never served and she wears military uniforms members of the royal family who have appointments can.

Engagements in 2018 (last full year that Harry worked):

1. Anne (518)
2. Charles (507)
3. Edward (493)
4. Andrew
5. The Queen (293)
6. Sophie
7. Duke of Gloucester
8. William (220)
9. Camilla
10. Harry: (193)

(Meghan only had half a year and Kate had a baby.)

I think they'll be fine without Harry. Edward and Anne won't have to do more than they already are as both are carrying a heavy load already.

Anne has always been known as the hardest working royal, only beaten by Charles recently in 2019.

I mean with Charles slim down monarchy plan! Edward and Anne really couldn’t be more different than Andrew. I like how they get on with it and seem to just accept their position with good grace.

Heck Princess Anne was the originator of the slim down Plan with her insistence that her kids not be given royal titles.

Awwwwww. It's so nice that the older great-grandchildren will have memories and pictures with Prince Philip.

I love the color of Kate's dress that she's wearing in the last picture. And the picture with George is fun but why is he wearing short pants and Prince Phillip is wearing gloves? :cold:

And there was me thinking this was relatively quick
In Judaism, people are supposed to be buried quickly, so I'm used to same day/next day funerals. When Prime Minister Rabin was assassinated in 1995, there had to be some time allowed for world leaders to travel to Israel - so he died on Saturday night and the funeral was Monday afternoon.

But of course these things are handled differently in different places/cultures, and it's good that there was enough time for Harry to travel and complete the required isolation period.

The state religion here is Lutheran and it's not unheard of to have a funeral take place up to two weeks post-mortem so maybe it's a Protestant thing? Growing up Catholic it was usually 2-3 days wake and then funeral.

I'm not into this royal stuff at all, but it's been on all the major and local news channels. William and Harry's cousin, Peter Phillips, has to walk between them. What are they, FIVE? It's a funeral. GROW UP.

The media is blowing this out of proportion. When mourners walk behind the casket in the procession, they line up based on connection to the deceased with the closest person to the deceased in the centre. Peter Phillips is the oldest grandchild of Prince Philip so he goes in the centre.

3 days is standard in my Protestant denomination.

I always thought the 3 days was related to Jesus’s death, burial and resurrection but I could have made that up too. Haha

Agreed. I thought it really sad to see Queen sitting alone. That is the most frail I think I have ever seen her.

Reports are that the white envelope atop the coffin was a note from Elizabeth (Lily Bet) to her husband.
Aww Queen Elizabeth really is a strong women setting an example even admits her grief. There are photos of Kate, Harry, and William leaving the Church together talking.

Phillip’s Land Rover was cool
