Hurricane Helene & Hurricane Milton

My friend and her family who live in the Tampa Bay area but are not in an evacuation zone and so chose to shelter in place are all well. They have some downed branches and a very soggy yard but otherwise are ok. She said it was very scary.

I was thinking of those unlucky people who sheltered properly from the hurricane only to be killed by a tornado.
9 tornadoes in one county in such a short period! It seems people were prepared for the hurricane but not the tornadoes. That must have been a shock. The woman being interviewed on cnn was so shaken up! The roof of their home was ripped off while by the tornado, while she was in a shelter. Good thing she was not home when the tornado struck it.

Power still out, but we dodged a bullet in Lakeland. Lots of trees down, and some fence down, but it could've been much worse. Waiting for power to be restored before returning home from Tallahassee. I hope my fellow Floridians fared okay.
Thanks for the update. Glad to know you are OK.

Interesting discussion about insurance in Florida—and how that affects other states who experience fires, floods and hurricanes:

Just got our power back in Lakeland. We were almost the last of 140,000 customers to be restored. I am a spoiled American who missed his AC and cable.
I'm sure the last 5 days have been unpleasant, but I'm glad you're alive and well and with AC & cable once more. :)

Interesting study about why conspiracy theories arise related to natural disasters.
Sixty Minutes addressed that Sunday:

During the Concert for the Carolinas, Luke Combs announced that the owner of the Carolina Panthers donated the stadium, parking, beer and personnel so that all the money raised would be used for relief purposes. Kudos to the entertainment who also donated their time and talent for a good cause, especially Combs who was one of the main organizers.

ETA: Per the ESPN reporter who covers the Panthers, David Newton, over $24.5 million was raised
