In addition, I'm pretty sure the Royal residences have some medical facilities and medical staff on hand to keep her comfortable if she was in any pain. I'm sure it was a better place to die than in a hospital.

I went to bed last night hearing the news that she was under medical supervision and that the family were going to Balmoral. So was anticipating waking up to her of her death.
She was a remarkable woman who led her country with dignity.

I remember a news report many years ago stating that the only medical care she didn't receive at home was dentistry. She actually went to a dentist's office.
I personally think it would be cruel to subject her to a hospital at 96. For what?
At some point we are all going to die. She still was able to get around some converse with people. Not everyone gets that.
RIP to an amazing lady. Personification of dignity, duty and nobility.
There is no point in speculating about her health, but the stresses of losing Philip, getting Covid and the difficulties surrounding Andrew and Harry, all within a couple of years, may have added to the issues... as stresses do to anyone, anywhere.

Her death means our Australian currency will have to change. She is on the back of all the coins and also on the $5 note.

Truth - and we both unfortunately know too well.
In regard to Her Majesty, I had a random sighting of her once. We were at Windsor Castle for the eleventy-billionth time (during my three years there we had a lot of US visitors stay with us, and Windsor was only about 20 minutes away so I went there a lot). Bored, I was standing by a window looking out at a walled and gated courtyard, and a black car drove up. The queen, who was alone and driving, got out of the car and went inside through a wooden door.

Same for us. And every government building will get a new portrait. I was surprised to find myself tearing up. I’m not a huge fan of the monarchy/royal family, but the Queen herself was just such a present figure and I certainly had respect for her.
I’m curious if this will lead to Canada and other commonwealth countries severing ties with the monarchy a bit more, even in small ways.

May she Rest In Peace. I’m not much for the monarchy but I liked that there was a Queen. Will not see that again in my lifetime.

In Australia it was considered she was the one reason why we are still part of the monarchy. Particularly when quite a few years ago we had a vote on it which didn't succeed. Republican debates happen but there is not much intensity for Australia becoming one. But now that she has passed it might become a hot topic again.

I think that is just what is done in the UK and commonwealth. Only the current monarch will be on coinage and paper money.

It sounds like the bank notes will be recalled and replaced, but it's likely to take 18-24 months. It's a shame because we just switched to new plastic, longer-lasting money within the last five years. The coins may remain in circulation as legal currency indefinitely.

Given the dire economic conditions in the country at the moment (+ the general love for the Queen), I hope practicality prevails and we don't spend lots of money needlessly switching things from the Queen to the King. King Charles has been very big on climate change / the environment / etc. It would be a great demonstration of his commitment to replace things gradually v. create colossal and unnecessary waste.

Because with our currency when the monarch changes so does who is on the back of the currency. So the back of our currency will now change to Charles.
They may change the $5 note to have Charles on it now.
What is out there still remains in circulation. But anything new that is produced will be changed.

Honestly this means she was not given a long drawn out death where she couldn’t remember her loved ones of a lot of pain.
Death is always sad but I think that’s really nice for her. To live such a long life and have little pain it’s the kind of death we all would want.
