RIP HM Queen Elizabeth II

I would expect that the same person who looked after them would continue to do so. I don’t expect that at her age the Queen was picking up dog sh*t and washing the dog bowls, or even feeding the dogs regularly. Someone would do that for her. The same was as she wouldn’t do her laundry, her cooking, and dusting and hoovering…
I have no doubt those dogs will be well provided for she I hear stopped breeding them to make sure they would eventually die off

"not require hospitalization"
Maybe she wanted to die peacefully and at home and she refused hospitalization when in a critically condition? My father had made a patient's provision, in case he wasn't able to make his own decisions anymore. I could imagine that the Queen was the kind of person who wanted to have full control over this last chapter in her life. Today's medicine can keep you alive for a long time, even when you're in coma with few hope that you gain back consciousness. Imagine what this means in the Queen's case? Instability of the monarchy.

In addition, I'm pretty sure the Royal residences have some medical facilities and medical staff on hand to keep her comfortable if she was in any pain. I'm sure it was a better place to die than in a hospital.

I wonder how long it will take for people to sing "God save the King". I'm almost 70 and never heard anything but God save the Queen.
Oh my, it never dawned on me that it was possible to sing it another way!

I remember when it was a teen thinking how cool and modern England was because the other monarchies all had kings, England had THE Queen! My naïve American ignorance.

I went to bed last night hearing the news that she was under medical supervision and that the family were going to Balmoral. So was anticipating waking up to her of her death.

She was a remarkable woman who led her country with dignity.

John Major being interviewed on ABC TV in Australia. He said that when he had his private meetings with her there was an audience of corgis.

I remember a news report many years ago stating that the only medical care she didn't receive at home was dentistry. She actually went to a dentist's office.

RIP to an amazing lady. Personification of dignity, duty and nobility.

There is no point in speculating about her health, but the stresses of losing Philip, getting Covid and the difficulties surrounding Andrew and Harry, all within a couple of years, may have added to the issues... as stresses do to anyone, anywhere.

It will be so strange to eventually see Charles on the money....

Sad for the British people. She was always a comforting presence.

Yes, she will be Queen Camilla. There was an announcement from QEII last winter, on her accession day anniversary, that she hoped "in due time" Camilla would be Queen Consort.

I’m sorry. She may be a very nice person. But when I read “Queen Camilla” it made me think of an evil Disney queen. :shuffle:

I just saw a tweet of the crowd outside Buckingham singing it.

The Queen is dead. Long live the king!

I can assure anybody, home is always a better place to die than a hospital. Always.

Truth - and we both unfortunately know too well.

In regard to Her Majesty, I had a random sighting of her once. We were at Windsor Castle for the eleventy-billionth time (during my three years there we had a lot of US visitors stay with us, and Windsor was only about 20 minutes away so I went there a lot). Bored, I was standing by a window looking out at a walled and gated courtyard, and a black car drove up. The queen, who was alone and driving, got out of the car and went inside through a wooden door.

Her death means our Australian currency will have to change. She is on the back of all the coins and also on the $5 note.
Same for us. And every government building will get a new portrait. I was surprised to find myself tearing up. I’m not a huge fan of the monarchy/royal family, but the Queen herself was just such a present figure and I certainly had respect for her.

I’m curious if this will lead to Canada and other commonwealth countries severing ties with the monarchy a bit more, even in small ways.

May she Rest In Peace. I’m not much for the monarchy but I liked that there was a Queen. Will not see that again in my lifetime.

In Australia it was considered she was the one reason why we are still part of the monarchy. Particularly when quite a few years ago we had a vote on it which didn't succeed. Republican debates happen but there is not much intensity for Australia becoming one. But now that she has passed it might become a hot topic again.

I think that is just what is done in the UK and commonwealth. Only the current monarch will be on coinage and paper money.

It sounds like the bank notes will be recalled and replaced, but it's likely to take 18-24 months. It's a shame because we just switched to new plastic, longer-lasting money within the last five years. The coins may remain in circulation as legal currency indefinitely.

Here's an article on the various administrivia that will need to happen: https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2022/sep/08/queen-death-cash-stamps-flags

Given the dire economic conditions in the country at the moment (+ the general love for the Queen), I hope practicality prevails and we don't spend lots of money needlessly switching things from the Queen to the King. King Charles has been very big on climate change / the environment / etc. It would be a great demonstration of his commitment to replace things gradually v. create colossal and unnecessary waste.

Why? Dead presidents are on pretty much all American currency.
Because with our currency when the monarch changes so does who is on the back of the currency. So the back of our currency will now change to Charles.

They may change the $5 note to have Charles on it now.

What is out there still remains in circulation. But anything new that is produced will be changed.

I read somewhere that apparently someone who saw her said she was in good form just a few days ago.

Honestly this means she was not given a long drawn out death where she couldn’t remember her loved ones of a lot of pain.

Death is always sad but I think that’s really nice for her. To live such a long life and have little pain it’s the kind of death we all would want.

You know when you see George IV that the coins are old, and in a generation the same will be true for coins featuring Elizabeth II.
