No cause of death has been given at this time. But from this article:

Avicii told Billboard magazine he decided to stop touring in 2016 for health reasons. Three years earlier, he underwent surgery for a ruptured appendix and a blocked gall bladder and in 2012, he was hospitalized with pancreatitis.

One of my favorites I feel very fortunate that I was able to see him perform live ones, it truly was a party. Condolences to his loved ones. He knew how to create ear worms so I know his songs will stand the test of time.

Billboard and other sources said that his acute pancreatitis was due to excessive drinking. He retired from playing live in 2016 to get himself out of that live scene, which he felt wasn't helping him:

I was really shocked to hear he'd died. I knew he'd been ill and had stopped touring, but I was very surprised to hear he'd died.

Apparently, Avicii committed suicide by cutting himself with broken glass. That's what TMZ is proposing.
