Hello, everyone... thanks for keeping the faith, and sorry for being in absentia for the last while...
Lee has been making progress, slowly but steadily improving. Around the middle of February, the Rehabilitation specialist came out to our little hospital to examine her, and get a feel for how long she would need to recover before re-entering Therapy again. So during that time, she continued to recover in the good care of our local nurses and doctors, and I hit the road to work a bunch; February and March are busy times in my schedule, so I was away a lot... gotta pay the bills, and honestly, I need to keep myself cognitively in the game, too.
It seemed every time I came home, she had gotten better at something; she was speaking better, had more coordination, her memory would improve, or just staying awake and attending longer. Starting around the middle of March, she began eating (well, sipping) soup, yogurt, and pudding... not a lot, but enough to start moving along that path. Her jaw seems to be stuck a bit, as she can't open it very wide (I know, right? How is she gonna get her teenburger in there?) so that's one of our therapy targets, as well as getting her a decent eye exam to find out what the heck is wrong with her vision. The last time I wheeled her downtown to the eye guy, we got a quack... he missed her prescription entirely... by lots, I think he just guessed ... so I want a decent eye guy this time. I'm going to shop around a bit. Getting her there was an issue, but maybe not so bad, now, because...
Last week, Lee got moved back to the big hospital and the specialized Stroke Rehabilitation program! Yep, the same Unit she was on before Christmas, when things were going so well... the same staff, the same doctors, the same bed, even!
Bad for me, because it's a pretty good drive to there, but much better for her, because she will get PT, OT, Speech, Recreation, and Rehab all day, 5 days a week.
Today is Day 859. Things are looking up. Thanks for hanging in there with us!
