Really, part deux

Hi team... been a while. Today is Day 675. I've been getting away to work again, a couple days a week, which pays the bills but takes me away from Lee. She continues to get better, flexibility and strength are coming along, but we still have some flex/extension to work on; the hope is that she regains all the use of her hands, but there is a bunch of physio between now and then. They are custom-fitting a wheelchair for her, which should let us get a bit further afield.. the limited extension in one leg has kept us out of the generic chairs.

Cognitively, she remembers all that she should, processes well, and doesnt seem to have deficits; but it is still a bit dependent on her physical status, if she is overtired or sick, she gets a bit hard to understand. Still, it's all uphill, and as my daughter keeps saying, "Speed doesn't matter. Forward is forward."

This has been a long and windy road, with many detours, hills, and potholes along the way. Thanks for pushing and pulling when we needed it, and for cheering when we didn't. Friends are a big deal.

So thrilled Lee is improving and that they are keeping her moving and doing physio now. When there is not enough movement that is when there is shit happening all the time. Those dam bodies they gave us are designed for everything to ebb and flow with the natural daily movements of our lives and when those movements are interrupted all hell breaks loose. Fingers crossed and prayers that improvement (no matter how small)happens daily.

Hi Everyone... today is Day 722; as you might have noticed, Lee got transferred to a specialized Rehab Unit last Friday, in a major Regional Hospital about an hour away from home. The first few days were a little shaky, as she was apprehensive about new doctors, nurses, and PT/OT staff. Fortunately, she had the long weekend to get settled into her new place before assessments began yesterday.

As many of you noticed, she is starting to reach out to the world; she calls me constantly, as I am away working, and posts status updates on facebook. Her recovery is still speeding up; I am so amazed at her strength.

Yesterday, one of her Nurse Assistants drove an hour to visit with her in her new hospital, do her nails, talk with her new care team, and just make sure she was settling in, then drove back to her previous hospital to put in her shift. Amazing. I am humbled by people like that.

I better get to work myself; I go home tonight, so I'll get to hang out with her tomorrow and see what her programming looks like. I am happy that this phase of her journey is beginning.
