My father has had one of those filters in place for years. I'm thinking at least 7 or 8. He was allergic to the Coumadin.

That is good to know and thanks for sharing. After the blood clot was gone, I was able to get off the Coumadin because of having the IVC filter. I would still be taking the blood thinner if I had refused to have the filter. :)

@Gerry Thanks for the update. I'm glad Lee is getting wonderful care in your local hospital now. Being home must be an immense relief for you. Things can feel a bit more "normal" even though the new normal is far from normal for any of you. Sorry Lee is having other issues. Hopefully being able to have visitors (friends and other family members) helps both of you :)

So... it's valentine's day, and I spent the morning with mine. Waiting for transport to take her for a CT scan.

The night before, her temperature spiked, her heart rate went stupidly high, blood pressure dropped, and it took a frantic hour, IV fluids, antipyretics and a dose of BSA to get everything normalized. Docs figured it looked like an infection, but couldn't be sure where... not respiratory, not epidermal, maybe a leak (colitis), sepsis (colitis), her IVC filter... so she needed a CT.

But this morning, everything seemed fine. She sat in her wheelchair in the sun, let the physio guys get her up and walking, and told me to 'go to work... I'll be fine'.

Last 2 times she said that, I went away to work and in a day or two, got a call from the hospital to rush home, so you can understand my reluctance to believe her.

But she insisted, the nurse promised to call me with the CT results, and so I drove 4 hours south to where I'm working, checked into a hotel, wrapped myself around a burger, did paperwork for a few hours and was just contemplating going to bed when my cell rang.

Hospital calling. Lee was having all the same issues, they were going to stabilize and transport, back to the U of A where all the Star Trek equipment and specialists live.

So starting at 11 pm, I drove all the way here again. Arrived at 3:30 am, and now we sit in Emergency while the Docs do tests to try and isolate the problem.

My money is on the Colitis. This damn thing is turning out to be as much a problem as the Hemorrhage.

Anyway, that's the latest... she is stable, comfortable, and sleeping. The Docs are waiting on test results. I'm sitting here, pondering things. At 4:40 am. After driving across half the province. Twice.

The big lesson here is that if Lee ever again tells me to 'just go, I'll be fine'...

so sorry you are going through another rough patch. Once they find the exact culprit of the source of the problem they will figure out the preventatives. She is where she needs to be to put the problems to bed..Try to get some rest and put some proper food in you.If you don't look after yourself your immune system will suffer and you could get sick. Thinking about you both..

Oh dear @Gerry you must be exhausted & frustrated. Sorry Lee has had this setback and been moved back to U of A. I'm sure the light of day will provide answers to sort out these latest complications. Here's wishing you all a quick resolve! Hugs and prayers coming your way, as always!!

@Gerry hope they can figure out what the issues are so they can correct. The not knowing is always the worst part. Once you identify a causation, then you can treat. There is often a cascading effect where one small issue impacts other parts of the body and causes multiple issues. Until you know the original issue, you're treating symptoms rather than fixing the problem. Hopefully, radiology will provide an answer. We do our best.

So sorry to hear this Gerry - how frustrating for you both. The U of A will figure it out and get her back on track soon I'm sure. Thank goodness the weather is good right now with all that driving!

Oh gosh. How unnerving and exhausting. I am so sorry and pray the Star Trek team will figure it all out in short order. And please - in spite of everything - take care of yourself. This marathon is even longer than you knew.

So sorry for Lee's latest setback. Hopefully the medical staff can get to the bottom of what's causing it. Hugs to both of you!

Well you know, Lee forgot Four Continents was this week and wanted you to watch it in the wee hours of the morning with her, as it's taking place in Korea. Just can't watch the skating alone, that one! :p

Tell her to start behaving or I'm gonna have to come up to Canada and give her a :kickass: and drink Smirnies in front of her just to be mean.

Seriously, hope they can isolate the problem and get her feeling better again. Two steps forward, one step back. It's the way of healing. Sigh!!! Sending positive thoughts and prayers your way @Really and @Gerry.
