People mag just released a special about figure skating stars of the past Olympics!! Ashley Wagner is one of a few the cover (including Nancy and Tonya circa 1994) which is a bit awkward since she's not on the team this year.

I saw it in Target and picked up a copy. I'm a sucker for that stuff. But yeah, you can definitely tell that magazines take some time to put together. Alina's not in it -- Evgenia is listed as "the one to beat." I don't see any mention of Bradie either. But it's very nice -- lots of historical stuff and great pictures going back decades.

The Katia & Ilia mention made me feel a little bemused at just how slowly news can travel in the skating world! Last I recall, people were still going back and forth over whether they were separated or not.

Kudos to anyone in today's day and age keeping their private life private. Not an easy feat. And also... when speaking about people like Kulik, his legacy on the ice is fantastic. What happens off ice is his business. As a dorky Kulik fan, I'm just thrilled to see clips here and there of his skating in Japan and with Averbukh's shows last year.

But for real though... no Nathan Chen on the cover? Really? The US National Champion? The actual contender to medal in Pyongchang? Nothing? Come on, People... get your sh*t together.

That is true but directly under her picture it says "Team USA 2018 Jason Brown and Ashley Wagner" which is a bit misleading. If they're on Team USA it's as alternates and the actual competing team members aren't even shown.

I recall the speculation re marital problems. Since it's their personal business, they obviously kept the actual split on the down low, and didn't allow it to affect their joint public appearances or the nurturing of their daughter.

While I know that the STORY is what the American press thrives on, I'm not surprised that the article mentioned it but the bottom line is that these are athletes and what they choose to share with the world about their personal life is their business. They owe us, the fans, nothing off the ice. Not to sound insanely flippant but it's kind of obnoxious when personal details of exceptionally private people become part of the public domain. The issue is called The Best of Olympic Figure Skating. The it says Team USA - Jason Brown and Ashley Wagner. For a casual viewer, it would not be unreasonable to assume that they are part of the US Olympic Figure Skating team due to the wording.

I don’t really see that it matters much, but perhaps they agreed with you and changed the cover. The version I see simply gives their names:

That is weird because the one I saw was a picture uploaded onto another skating forum and it clearly showed "Team USA - Jason Brown and Ashley Wagner." And it was a picture of the actual magazine that someone bought.

I picked up the last issue on the stand at the grocery store tonight, and felt happy. I may not have the time to read it before tomorrow.

The cover was disappointing. Still talking about Nancy/Tonya, and I don't know what else. Why couldn't they focus on the upcoming Olympics? Anyway, I will find out more tomorrow, once I start reading it.

People are right! This was done long before us nationals was even decided. The one four years ago had “Olympian max Aaron” so they are just guesses made based on 2017 us nationals but by that standard Chen could have been on the cover but it’s so old.

It has 96 pages, with pictures on both covers. The last page inside the back cover has a full page picture of Sarah Hughes. More later.

My wife and I have purchased the magazine. We are sitting in our kitchen and making some coffee that we will probably drink while we read the magazine together. Right now, I am thinking about making toast to have with the coffee. A minute ago, I was looking at the magazine cover. I am thinking that Anastasia Galustyan would have been in the magazine if People made an Armenian addition.

My wife just sat down next to me. We are about to open the magazine.

We found that someone has already done a review of the magazine on Amazon and it says "Would recommend this book for looking back on Olympic Figure Skating. Very entertaining to us old folks! Pictures were nice too!"

Its a pretty good issue, focused on US skaters, no surprise. It has pics of some non- US skaters as well - G&G (2-page death spiral from Reverie 94 Ex), T&D Bolero, Elvis Stojko, Surya Bonaly (back flip), Orser, a small pic of Plushenko, Elena-Anton (not flattering) one page of Medvedeva, Hanyu, etc.

Pics of all the US OGM winners. Nice group photo on the back. Also a small pic. Of Nathan Chen and Sasha Cohen in the same page.

Other current US skaters - Shibs, S&K, Karen Chen, S&K. No mention of Bradie T. Or Mirai. There is a pic of Vincent Zhou.

I caught a couple of errors (so far)

The artcile said in 1988 Sergei had just completed 22. Incorrect. He was 21 (in 95 he was 28 when he died). Minor error

A picture of.Michelle Kwan in her 2002 LP red dress is listed as her silver medal winning 98 dress. Major error.

Don't they have fact checkers at People?

@Vash01 People magazine (the main one) does not have fact checkers. It runs corrections in pretty much every issue. Very few magazines have fact checkers these days, sadly.

Not sure about soup cans in US, do they affix paper labels (hard to replace) or plastic ones (easier to replace)?

Too bad the situation about the ladies wasn't clear this year. It appears like, if they wanted to do soup cans this year, they could really only have Nathan on the dance teams on the soup cans as relatively surer bets.
