Ok, I love them to death! Really! Best ice dancer for me ever! I love how Gabby shines in the SD! I must admit that I feard she wouldn´t be able to dance like this. You should trust your favourites ;) And I still think that gabby is the most underrated dancer. She gives SO MUCH to this couple. Guillaume is a god, but she´s not far behind and compliments him sooo well! The FD really is to die for. When the rumors came up that they´ll skate to MS I knew they would be fantastic and they are! Thank you Gabby and Guillame for two perfect programs!

I know he fell right in front on me (I was at the rink;)). I had not paid attention that it was on an element.
This program is magical, a masterpiece. Standing ovation.

It looked to me like he was too close to the boards...I was not there...just going by the video

Over the weekend I wasn’t able to watch any of the skating live, so I made my impressions on the programs as I could in-between other things, including P/C’s SD. I made my initial impressions but I found myself going back and watching it multiple times. I hadn’t really felt the need to do that this season other than Gilles/Poirier’s SD and Muramoto/Reed’s programs. I think I’m finding myself more enthralled with it the more I watch it.

Wowza. I don't even watch dance, but that was beautiful. I haven't seen pair spins that wonderfully timed to the music in forever.

I do wonder if the predominantly Korean crowd would be more into Moulin Rouge than Moonlight Sonata, simply because MR was Yuna's breakout program?

Generally speaking as of late, to me, the best Pairs spins have been in ice dance and the best and more dancey footwork has been in pairs due to the freedom.

Bravo Gabi and Guillaume ! and thank you and bravo to the cameramen who filmed correctly this event.

The SD is really fabulous. I'm not sold on the music (yet) but boy can they skate well. The choregraphy is really great and showcases their skating skills and artistry. They are fast and can skate packed choregraphy and still make it look so good. I like their costumes, the contrast between all black for him and sparky green for her, even if I think maybe a black short sleeves Tshirt with round neckline would be better than the no sleeve one for Guillaume. Gabriella is gorgeous in her fun and festive dress and for me it works. I know I'm knitpicking on the costumes (I love Gabi's FD dress but not Guillaume's FD top so much either).

The FD is beautiful, a work of art and is going to be a masterpiece. IMO they need to rework their lifts (in both de short and the free) and of course not fall ;). They have such an amplitude the rink is too short.:D

They are beautiful and what they do on ice is beautiful. I love them.

For me, Gabi is the best actress out there. Her body movements and facial expressions are exquisite. There are many phenomenal skaters, but no one draws me into the program as much as she does. Thank you for the links, I love their reactions to the music during the ceremony. :D :)

This presto part, my world, I nearly had a heart attack I can definitely see Jeffrey Cirio's hand in this FD so many gorgeous positions.
This is also in the 2017-18 Programs thread, but here's a tweet with a link to a mini feature on Cirio just posted by English National Ballet, where he is guesting in Songs of the Earth and La Sylphide:

He speaks, and there are clips of him rehearsing both works.

@nimi , Please could you give us your impressions from the Finlandia competition ? I know you were deterred by the tone in the Ice Dance thread and I can't blame you really. I don't want to post there anymore either tbh but you can certainly do it here, I swear we're nice ;) I'd love to hear what you thought of P/C but also of the Danes, and any other teams you'd like to talk about really. I mean who cares about off-topic.

It was never that Pap/Ciz could not perform Latin. I believe Gaby indicated Latin was not her favorite form of dance, and that it's difficult to put together Latin programs for the ice that don't look cheesy and/or tacky. P/C did Latin extremely well as juniors. It was more detractors typecasting them on the basis of their FD successes, plus the fact that P/C have had some technical weaknesses in their SDs. But every year they manage to grow and to overcome all the critiques and low expectations.

Once again, P/C score, and I'm sure they will improve both programs over the course of the season. P/C are an inspiration, and I truly believe that V/M in part felt challenged by what P/C accomplished with Dubreuil/Lauzon & Haguenauer in their second season as seniors. V/M were thinking of coming back and were already working with D/L on exhibition programs. But surely P/C's amazing success under D/L's tutelage has been both challenging and inspiring for V/M and for many teams.

A more detailed summary:
I had already seen their short dance, I already liked, I like even more. Their musical choice does not bother me, it's modern, two songs known ... the public woke up. It's dynamic, stylish, classy and they have fun together and are happy to dance. Even though Dean choreographed, they do Papadakis/Cizeron. The two shine but I find that Gabriella brings this little extra to this short, she does not play, she dances and draws Guillaume:respec:. She also deserves all the compliments that some do only for Guillaume:).
My 1st reaction at the end of the music: "what?, it's already finished (in french:biggrinbo)". To conclude, a little word about the costumes: they complement each other, I like that.
I am not shocked by their score: it is for me the most successful short dance.

I think I "fell in love" with their free. Everything is sublime, every gesture is extremely delicate and marries every note of Beethoven. They invite us into their world, because in fact they dance for each other. The choreography is exquisite. The little addition of Guillaume is really not obliged (the fall  that will be the last of this season). Standing ovation more than deserved (I doubt this is the last:)).

@nimi Me too, please ! P/C, Danes and a live impression of S/B too... :biggrinbo You were so lucky to be there !
P/C: As expected, their seamlessness, flow & fluidity esp. in FD don't fully come across on camera even when the camera work is pretty good (like it was in Finlandia this year, thankfully). So yeah, if you're a fan and you have a realistic chance to go see the FD live without bankrupting your budget, I highly recommend doing that.

I'm not a fan of the SD music, esp. the slowed down section of Shape of You, but P/C were just so much fun to watch and they actually looked like they were dancing and having fun (esp. Gabi) so even the somewhat questionable music edit didn't really bother me that much! I haven't watched the SD yet on youtube but it's probably more camera-friendly than the FD.

BTW: IMO P/C's twizzles covered more ice than it seems in the youtube vid. (Happens with camera angles.) The twizzles were, like, really impressive live, in addition to being smooth & beautiful.

The Danes' SP is one of my faves this season. Also they & their skating is just so nice to watch and easy on the eyes... So yeah, for me their SD was one of the highlights in the whole event! The FD wasn't quite as strong and the almost-botched lift was a bit scary but then again, there were many frightening/shaky/botched lifts in this FD event in general...

S/B's FD music rubbed me the wrong way and it was kinda difficult for me to appreciate the program (to put it nicely). Their SD wasn't particularly memorable for me. Though I still like them more live than I do on TV.

Of the lower ranked teams, Fear/Gibson (9th place) were a positive surprise for me. They're not particularly exciting or anything and I've never really noticed them when I've seen them before but they skated well here, which is something you really appreciate when you've sat through several teams visibly struggling i some of their elements and being kinda scratchy overall...

I'm rooting for Hurtado/Khaliavin soooo haaaard but I wasn't particularly surprised when Sara struggled with twizzles (again) and they ended up with pretty low TES in SD (I mean, twizzles & the rumba pattern both level 1... Ouch...). Still, no falls or botched lifts, which was a relief, honestly. Their Don Quixote FD was stronger (Sara doing her fiery Spanish thing is always worth watching!) & I was happy to see them rising to 6th overall and getting some ranking points and I guess it was a pretty good season start for them, considering.

BTW: Watching the last FD warm-up group was pretty scary at times, esp. when P/C were running through their straight line stsq. They just have so much speed and they cover the whole ice pretty fast and then there are the 4 other top teams on the ice skating around in high speed, doing their thing... Gabi shouted the warning several few times and there were some close calls and near-collisions and audience gasps...

Thank you so much @maya1985 and @nimi I will rewatch Fear/Gibson, you got me intrigued. I also enjoy the Hurtado team better than the Diaz team. They are the stronger skaters imo. She also has a strong presence esp. in their FD this year.
As for P/C, they always come up with interesting twizzles imo. Last year at World they were phenomenal, perfectly nsynch, fitting exactly the mood, and every year they do modify them both in SD and FD. In MS, they fit so well the phrasing of the music and Guillaume's exit is exquisite and original.
