Papadakis CIzeron #4 - Happiness Does Not Wait

You know in the sport as in some ballet it is the male showing the female in a most flattering way. What is unique about P/C is that he is so good that he leads and she follows and they make it look effortless and magical. It is less about showing her though she does have moments. I think this season is setting the brilliance of Ciz against the brilliance of Tessa. I think V/M have nailed what they need to do to showcase Tessa. I don't think P/C are there yet. Remember when I say this that P/C are now my all time favorite ice dancers. They are so special. I want to see more of the command of G.C because that is when they are so unique and when they are at the pinnacle of their beauty. It is early days yet and I may need to see them again and again to understand what they are doing. I have high hopes for both teams and for the Shibs this year. My highest hopes are for P/C.

For me, the season is setting the brillance of Guillaume and Gabriella;) against the brilliance of Tessa and Scott.
Guillaume is certainly the best dancer in the world but Gabriella is not just there because there had to be a girl. It is not by chance. She does not only follow Guillaume, she does a little more:respec:. Gabriella is as important as he is, he can show that he has talent because Gabriella is able to dance with him and that yes she too is a great dancer.

For me, Guillaume is better at dancing/skating skills. Yet, I wouldn't enjoy his performance without her as Gabriella is the soul of that team. Her face/body movements tell the story perfectly and she draws you into the story like no one out there. For me. :)
It's probably only my opinion and I don't want to compare anyone, but I think we'll see more of Gabriella like we now see more of Tessa. She, too, needed her time to evolve and overcome her injuries. Remember Gabbi's concusion - while Guillaume continued training, she had to cure herself and yet managed to come back quite strongly to defend their European and World titles in 2016. ;)

To Build a Home would never have worked if Gabby had been out there scratching up the ice and throwing snow all over the place. It wouldn't have mattered how good of a skater Guillaume was. That program worked only because they both had this incredible glide and smooth speed, and so could keep up with each other. I've seen teams where one skater is clearly better than the other, and that is not this team.

is

I don't disagree with this at all. What I loved so much about that program was his lead in the program and she was wonderful as well. I simply think he is a unique talent in the ice dance world and sometimes I think we need to see his uniqueness more and it happens in the way he leads and glides around her throughout the dance. I don't mean to demean her at all. Virtue and Moir represent a more traditonal way to see ice dance and I do think she is a singular talent as well. When they are both at their very best I prefer P/C. I think we are lucky in that we will see some excellent dancing this year.

Having seen all the SDs now, except for C/L and C/B, one big difference so far, P/C are one of the rare top team with B/S and Hubbell/Donohue not to stop during the non touching. For B/S and H/D, it's understandable because they chose to skate that portion on a slower rhythm, if on top of it they'd stop, it would just become a drag. P/C skates on a fast rhythm and dance all the way through which is quite hard and more tiring but they also can maintain their speed easier I guess. Otoh that stop is where most teams fit their latin flavored moves because tbh most SDs don't exhibit much hip or other latin dance moves. It's a small risk to dance through but they pull it off well, their SD is the only one which makes me want to get off my seat and dance. There are some nice or interesting SDs out there but none as dancey as theirs. Another proof would also be the pattern, they actually skate it accentuating every beat of the music with their legs/edge work and even head movements which no other team manage to do so far, they mostly skate through the music. I'm still not sold on the lift though, i like how it hits the beat with her first pose, really nice but the second one is just rushed and not at the flattering angle from the judges' point of view.

In this ruthless world a little moment of beauty offered to you by Gabriella's hand (and my new discovery in the many many many hidden little treasures in their FD)
This might be weird to some people, but instead of prefering this lift or this one... for 4 years in a row what I prefered with them is the entrance of their circular step sequences.
In Mozart, he was holding her, look at this awesome replay from 2015 WTT : https://youtu.be/yiaYLFhsvDs?t=378
In Build a Home, when they raise their arms, with the music : https://youtu.be/_mX42087N4Q?t=104
In Stillness, it was the choreo before going in the CiSt : https://youtu.be/8SwGAKU27K0?t=77
And what you posted @cocotaffy for MS, there is a moment with the flow that just striked me a lot and even more at Finlandia because the Camera angle was just PERFECT for this particular moment.
I just prefer their little choreographic moments, I find them transcendant... And I always find their CiSt fantastic too.

EDIT : in the H/D fan thread, there is a video that Madison posted about training, and it shows H/D at some point with Marie-France working on the smaaaall details. Awesome video. I wish we had that with the top 2 teams, and especially with P/C since the details in their choreo is the most striking/beautiful to me.

So Guillaume is really the one going out of the box, last year with the music and now with Cirio. He sure knows how to make good use of Youtube, Instagram and such. It's great Cirio had no idea about the ID world, it brings a truly fresh perspective on what kind of new movements can be introduce on the ice. I noticed a lot of balletic and unusual movements in their FD so I guess he's responsable for it. And of course the work on their arms is nothing short of amazing, so many details. But one of Cirio's comments will probably resonates with many in this thread:
"One of my biggest complaints about ballet is that there is sometimes too much emphasis put on tricks and not enough on artistry," Cirio said. "I could see this happening in ice dancing as well, so when I saw them dance, I was so happy to see that they value their artistry."
I'd love to see videos of their collaboration, especially off ice.

Well there was an instagram post about the beginning of their FD (Cirio's instagram if I remember well) that I enjoyed more that what they're using right now, but I haven't seen anything else :(

I loved this quote, and Gabby's humour and honesty.

I'm looking forward to seeing G&G in Grenoble.

Me too ! I love how they don't sugarcoat anything. This is the most open interview I've seen from them. A very "French" interview I'd say.
And it's nice to see that they don't feel some sort of "patriotic pressure". They understood that they don't need to go full out on competitive mode because it could have lost them last year. While D/W and V/M were full on mind games (not even nasty, just unbearable pressure), I prefer what Marie-France does for her teams. Just a bit of pressure from time to time (you'll have plenty of stress on the D-Day anyway, why do that all year ?). I think the explanation for the individualized training (must be for P/C, V/M and also H/D) is very clear, and it's better psychologically speaking. You have to keep the environment friendly. A Canton circa 2013-2014 2.0 is unnecessary.

Great interview! Man, I can't say how much I'm looking forward to an epic battle between VM and PC at the Olympics. Both have great programs that suit them 100%. It's a great time to be an ice dance fan :cheer2:

I’m nauseous already. I think I’m going to take the day after off work. I need to go figure out when the dance event is aired in Michigan. I need to win the lottery so I can just go and watch. Frankly, other than pairs , I can live with whatever happens in the other disciplines. This dance thing is going to drive me insane( the distance is not far)

Translation for the non-french speaker :

Q : They (V/M) were amazing during last Week-end in Regina, beating the WR of total score. We can only guess that this kind of performance only motivates you more...
GP : Yeah honestly it's f***ing annoying to see them that good! (Laughs) No but seriously, the difficulty and the merit will be even higher if we manage to do more. Yes, we're under a lot of presure, because we want to do just as good, if not better, in China, to show them that we are ready too!

EDIT : if you want all translation of this article, you can ask me or someone else to do it. I feel like I'm not the best english translator among french speaker here ;)

Thank you for the interview! And also for the translation, even though I'm trying to get through it in French, it's always great to double-check the real meaning in English.

In terms of the Cup of China: I read that the SD competition will be aired on Eurosport2, but FD will probably not be on television... Does anyone have more information about that?

Yes ES 2 Saturday afternoon at 2.30 only highlights not live.

A full broadcast would be better, of course, but, honestly, I am not that worried, as Gabriella and Guillaume's FD will surely be one of those highlights (:)), as will Chock/Bate's FD debut which I am interested to see. I will watch the rest of it on Eurosport Player which will hopefully have streams of full competitions.

The FD will be broadcasted live by CCTV 5 and Kazsport. Here are two CCTV5 free streaming links http://www.jisutiyu.com/live/sports/cctv5.html
