"No one knows Mirai's mirai" Nagasu cheer thread

I have no idea what motivates Mirai, but in my mind I like to think that if she were to just take one element of choreography, jumps, and spins at a time then move on to the next from here on out because she loves showing what good skating is, then she will be surprised at how well she does.

On paper it looks like great combination. Sorry she and Med are doing same short; it will add additional issues that Mirai doesn't need. Saigon could be brilliant. Why not use some of the lea Salonga version(s)? May Mirai make progress oin her personal skating goals.

If Mirai makes the Olympic Team, I think it is advantageous because it will make her appear to be a more direct rival to Medvedeva. Mirai does have some nice qualities over Medvedeva, such as the size of her jumps and her spin positions, although Medvedeva does have the undisputed advantage.

Mirai has confirmed that she is keeping her Chopin SP from last season and revealed her FS music as Miss Saigon: https://twitter.com/fsonline/status/883060496353697793

ETA that this tweet says it's an instrumental version of Miss Saigon: https://twitter.com/goldenskate/status/883034161837113344

She is scheduled to compete at Skate Detroit in 2 weeks.

YAY!! :cheer::cheer2: SO happy that Mirai is keeping her Chopin SP!

Not really familiar with "Miss Saigon". Heard of it but never heard the music. Will have to look that one up. Hope it's great (not just good!). Instrumental? No vocals then? YAY again!! :cheer2::cheer: GO MIRAI!! Have a great Olympic season!

I'm happy she's keeping the Chopin SP. I'd like to see them add a bit more choreo and really work on pulling out the expression and performance. With Evgenia using the same music there will be comparisons and Evgenia is known for performing with a lot of emotion and expression. That should motivate Mirai to push herself in that regard.

Miss Saigon is a fine warhorse choice. I'm all for warhorses in an Olympic year...just feels right. My favorite Miss Saigon is Satoko Miyahara's FS from 2014-2015. It was an absolutely beautifully packaged program. Mirai is going to have to really bring it in terms of performance this season to make sure her version stands out.

The jumps are always important but I really want to see Mirai turn the corner in terms of her expression, feeling the movements and feeling the music. The girl is capable of some magic but I don't want to see her stone-faced and blank through 2/3rds of the program.

I'm crossing my fingers for her.

:COP:Ted Flett was recently in Colorado Springs and got a new video interview with Mirai:

She was adorable as usual. I'm super excited to see her new programs. I like how grounded she is over the Medvedeva SP music situation, everybody here reacted so strongly and she's just like ho-hum - it adds pressure but I had it first and will be more comfortable with the music. :D "It'll be like two types of cake."

Kwan used a piece when very young (maybe 13), Yuna used it in 2008(?) and Satoko had a Miss Saigon program a few year's back. There have been others.

Many skaters have used the lyrical "Sun and Moon" song (my fave :)) in the slow/middle section of a free skate to Miss Saigon -- here's Karen Chen's JGP program from 2013 that uses an instrumental version (piano & orchestra) of the song for one minute: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JUUK6g4S4LQ&t=1m5s

ETA that Mirai said in her interview with Ted Flett "Sun and Moon is me" so hopefully that means it's included!

I found this--Nancy Kerrigan skating to I'd Give My Life to You from Miss Saigon. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_x3OSqK9yo
I didn't like her costume but I really liked her skate. Nancy should have used more music like this (without words, of course) during her amateur career.
OMG! Thank you for the link. Here she is at the OLYS. This was her exhibition program. Different dress (better than the blue one)....but the skating and interpretation are glorious.

Please...........bring back 6.0:cheer2::gallopin1

Totally agree! It was interesting to see how Nancy's interpretation got even better as a professional. She really laid it all out on the ice in that 1995 performance.

Mirai is rotating the 3A here but I wish her free leg was a little more behind her when landing it if she does not expect to try it in combination with a loop jump.

Well, this is just one of many tries. She's had her leg behind her before and she (or her coach) did post that vid with her doing the 3A-2T combo. Obviously it depends on the luck of the landing if that combo will happen in competition. I just hope she can do the 3A consistently in both programs! :D

^^^^ Can you imagine if homegirl starts doing clean 3 axels in all her SPs and all her Frees??????

Imagine? I do it all the time!! I personally wish she would quit posting it though, we love you and know that you can do it clean. It adds extra expectations to hype yourself up the wazooo, and doesn't help the pressure when it's game time and her music starts. I'd like to see the triple axel in competition before an 11th clean attempt on social media. I blame Tom's influence.

I love her! :) :cheer2:

Maybe she is doing it to hype herself up or even others to push themselves. Personally I would have loved to see Michelle Kwan in a video doing a different combo than toe/toe even if I never saw it in competition. (RIP triple sal/triple loop from 01 worlds warm up) It appears she really likes training the jump but the consistency is not there like she said in the interview. Like she has no idea if she is going to land it or not unlike the rest of her other jumps. I have to say that Miss Saigon is pretty much meant to have a big jumping pass at the beginning the way the overture ramps up..... you can do it Mirai!!! I would seriously lose it if I saw it at Nationals live. I practically lost it when Inoue and Baldwin landed the throw and I didn't even like them that much. lol
