I just watched Mirai's exhibition program that she did for the Jeremy and Lucy Barrett benefit show. It is to a song called Body Language. I've never seen Mirai go for sensual/sexy before. The choreography is quite good and she is marvelous (though not the jumps). Glad to see her tackling something out of her comfort zone so successfully! I loved it.

Did it ever occur to anyone that she posted it because she's worked her ass off on it and is proud? It's her personal Instagram! People post silly pictures of everything including their meals. Why wouldn't she post her accomplishing something so wonderful ?

Sounds great! Where can we see it?

Because of last season. You do remember last season, don't you? She finished 4th at US Nationals after Tom hyped her up to the moon and back beforehand. Triple axel, blah blah blah blah blah. That worked out extremely well, didn't it?

I'm not buying ANY of her team's hype this year. ZERO. Shut up and skate time.

I love her! :cheer2:

She's posted it so many times at this point, so many clean ones, I highly doubt that anybody thinks she can't do a clean triple axel at this point. This isn't even close to the first time a clean one has been posted? The more clean attempts she posts, the more people are going to expect to see it...

:scream:

If I'm her coach she'd be taking that down faster than you can say Miss Saigon. Post a clean run-through instead. :saint:

@Karpenko ... Well if she landed the 3A with her free leg more behind her ... I'd want to see it because it would be progress ... But clean run throughs are more important.

Right, but the point is posting these clips gets everyone SUPER excited... ?? Pressure isn't her friend.

I would trade every single triple axel attempt she's ever done in her life, if it meant clean programs at the GP series. CLEAN PROGRAMS. If she bombs again, I'm going to be so  that they're wasting time chasing a unicorn like this.

She's not even a team member yet, I mean what good will a triple axel be if she's not even there, there are many many skaters she needs to pass if she wants to even be top 5 in Pyeongchang (if she makes it).

I just don't understand the hype game in Tom Z's camp, I think it's his biggest weakness (even though he really knows what he's doing and is a fantastic coach in general).

I'm over-reacting yes, but I just won't tolerate a repeat of last year. No way. Learn from your mistakes.

I think Tom wants to show that Mirai has a lot to market going into the Olympics in South Korea, and it may relax some of the politics against her.

You have to put yourself in position to make the team before doing that, she's still 4th best right now. Let's not get ahead of ourselves like last time. Let her performances speak for her, not your own hype and social media politicking (which adds a distraction and extra expectations that don't need to be there). I'm so over it!!! She's one of the best skaters in the world on her own merit.

In a way, I think you are right, but ... The process is no longer that you earn your spot, exactly ... Sad, but true.

If she were a better competitor it wouldn't bother me so much (and if I weren't a mega-fan for over 10 years), I'd just like to see them learn from their mistakes. The pattern is already starting to repeat itself a bit IMO. The winner didn't take it all.

@Karpenko At least she admits that, while she trained like champion, she did not compete like a champion. I hope it sticks.

My excitement is high, but I am creating no expectations. Let every skate be an unexpected surprise.

Wow I totally missed that, she looks stunning. Absolutely gorgeous and stunning, let's forget the triple axel forever. :summer: do a clean and beautiful triple lutz instead.

She can compete for a place on the podium if her skating is this gorgeous next season, but yeah you'll need the jumps. :shuffle: Everything else (besides the illusion spin) is a WOW for me. :kickass: :cheer:

Peace out triple axel, hello clean run-throughs. (y)

I sorta agree. No sense marketing her for the Oly team that she does 3 axels in practices.... thats now what counts.

I thought for SURE we would have seen one of those 3 axels at Nats and for sure at 4CC, but still waiting patiently....kinda...LOL

That Body Language program is the best I've ever seen her skate. Amazing.

And while I could see how someone would describe it as sensual, it's not the kind of program that would be embarrassing to watch with your family or anything like that. It's just good skating and good choreo!

Also my :soapbox: doesn't mean I don't think Tom Z is stellar. I have the patience of Miranda Priestly when there's a hurricane and her flight is cancelled because it's drizzling. He knows what he's doing, he's a friggen technical magician, and I'm just offering an outsiders fan perspective (who doesn't know diddly squat compared to Tom Z) before the biggest year of her (my baby) life happens. (in skating).

Win, lose, or fall Flatt on your face, :cheer2: :cheer2: you have to get these insecurities as a Mirai fan out early in order to enjoy every crazy moment later on. :summer: Her Olympic season is starting soon! :kickass: :inavoid:

Here. http://youtu.be/5hbBXjQAZ2g

She's at around 50:00.
Thank you! That is such a winner! I love it. I'm sure - well, I have a strong suspicion, that performing like a grown sexy woman for the first time ever (not to mention letting the introduction of her as National champ and Olympian get to her) caused her to lose focus on her jumps. If she can get over those two things the Japanese fans are going to adore her more than ever - and so are all her other fans. I'm hoping the inspiration for this EX came from her new Jeff Buttle programs... ie, that we'll see Mirai performing like this in competition. It's the last missing piece.

Skating clean Is almost everything, I agree with Karpenko, but man, if she could skate clean AND perform like this....!

Don't like exhibition skating in general. But, in Mirai's case I look forward to it. She has a wonderful musicality. There are little gestures and positions that fit what's happening in the music. I'm not a skater but I assume when there are so many technical boxes to check her artistry kind of gets lost

At least she went for it, but I'd prefer a clean 3/3 in the short over anything else. :shuffle: (Make that final group or bust) this just means that she's saving it for the GP this time. :cheer:
