I REALLY got into Dance during the 94 Olys when T&D returned... Their "Face The Music And Dance" to me is what "DANCE" is all about...
Dont get me wrong I still like ice dance but the last 15 years ice dance seems more to me about acrobats on ice.... and Dance for only about 15 seconds, 20 tops. (usually just the step sequence)
Im a purist.
I love the spiral and layback in ladies... and I do quite love the "dance" in "ice dance."

Did she really mean they skated like "men" stylistically or did she just mean their jump content was getting closer to matching the men at the time?

Judging by the interview from Albertville posted above, where she does mention the rise in technical difficulty (and fully acknowledges her inability to keep up) she meant that it was 'getting closer' to matching the men in terms of technical difficulty. I believe she actually says that the ladies content in Albertville was more difficult than the men's in Calgary, which was not exactly true, as Ito's was probably equal to Boitano and Orser's, while, Harding and Bonaly's planned content, (Surya was attempting the quad) which neither fulfilled, would have been in the ballpark. But nobody else in the field was doing anything more difficult than Yama's 3L/3t.

She was always so tan!!! SO mature too, I cant tell is she's 20 or 40... and that is being said as a compliment.
I wonder what she thinks of 2017-2020 ladies skating if she appreciated the simple and lesser triple jumps (like I do).

She competed in a lot of professional and pro-am competitions and toured with Stars on Ice. She had to quit skating because of a blood clot.

Apparently you’ve never seen Trenary’s The Feeling Begins. I don’t think there’s any doubt Baiul was a huge fan.

Also, I don’t think she was around that long in the pro scene. I remember her comeback in 1995 or 1996, but I think it was only for two or maybe three events IIRC.

This. I was a huuuge Jill fan and was disappointed that she had very little visibility during the 'boom' post-wack years of pro skating, unlike her former training mate Kadavy. So many fans came to the sport during that time and I think that's why her legacy is tarnished a bit(i.e. the pat response, 'oh she only won worlds because of figures'--which is partly true, but when on, she was a terrific freeskater who had the misfortune of competing directly against the once in a lifetime jumping phenomenon that was Midori Ito). Had she had more visibility as a pro during those peak post wack pro years, I suspect, especially given the pro programs that I did see, she would be remembered much more fondly...or well...remembered, period.

In 1992, I always thought the big gap was between the group of Ito / 3 Americans and everyone else. Bonaly was kind of there and I think she had a full complement of triples but lagged due to her SS

I watched a good amount of ladies pro skating from 95-98 and had no idea who Jill Trenary was. This was the era when Caryn Kadavy, Denise Biellmann, Yuka Sato, and Oksana were on television literally (not hyperbole!) every weekend. Hell, I was more familiar with Rory Flack, Marina Kielmann, and Lilly Lee than Trenary.
I can only speculate as to how much my 13 year old development was stunted by not having access to this program every weekend?!

You don’t remember this?! It was before the days of me VHS-ing everything but a lot of the choreography stuck in my mind until we actually had videos to download online- probably some 10 years later.

I am certain there were many recordings of Trenary in that water heater closet Oksana supposedly lived in after her mother died and her father abandoned her but before she was human trafficked to the US after the Olympics.
All it takes is one performance seen somehow and some way to become a huge fan.

Are you sure that it wasn't that Christopher Dean happened to choreograph for both Jill and Oksana? Christopher and Jill married in 1994.
Can't say for sure, but I don't think Dean was involved with Baiul's choreography- I think maybe she even did this herself. And Dean was still married to Duchesnay until early 1993, so Trenary would've already been skating this program prior.

If Bauil was influed by Trenary, could Trenary have been influenced by Katarina Witt.
Witt skated to Caravans in the short program for the 1985/86 season. Her costume was pretty out there at the time, too.

Possibly. I remember reading her autobiography some years back and can't remember anything outside of the fact that Frau Mueller was NOT pleased with her.
