Let's Talk Movies #36 - 2020 - Yep it is a new decade

I also watched Conclave on Peacock last night; the acting is beyond superb. My one criticism is that I found the ending a little anti-climactic; I think the pacing was a bit off. Definitely thumbs up for the movie overall in spite of my minor reservation.

I watched the trailer. I i could probably watch that. It’s impossible for me to watch peacock though.

^^^^ lol

For me, it’s just ridiculous. I mean Dune 2, gladiator 2, wicked 2, Deadpool meets wolverine next-door neighbors cousin, the minions 12 lol. now universal wants to redo my favorite movie of all time “the others.” Hollywood, which is where I live, is the most uninspiring city in the world, it’s just ridiculous sequels and CGI. I have even gone back to the 1980s and started watching movies like terms of endearment so I can see actual plots and storylines with quality acting.
There’s def an audience for it. I cannot do your fave movie The Others because although I know it’s fictional .. I can’t do scary movies with spirits etc. I’m 100% a wimp. I cannot do horror movies either 😬.

My friend and I will be going to the movies on Christmas day. She wants to see Mufasa(I saw the preview and admittedly the CGI is amazing) and I want to see A Complete Unknown(the Bob Dylan Biopic). I am dreading the mass kiddie invasion for the former. I'm assuming that the latter doesn't appeal to her because she grew up in South Africa and may not have had as much exposure to his music as I did. Can anyone cooment?

Oh gosh, nothing will ever top my favorite movie, “the others” and Nicole Kidman gives the best performance I have ever seen, that and Cher in “mask.” The Oscar nomination should’ve been for “the others” not “Moulin Rouge” that year.

For those who are into this kind of a movie, watch the black-and-white movie called “the ghost and Mrs. Muir” so brilliant, so beautiful… I cried.

Nobody like Rex Harrison...

Just remembered that Gene Tierney played Mrs. Muir.

Well this trailer freaked me out a little and now I want to see this film:

The trailer freaked me out a lot! Very compelling, but too much for my delicate constitution. It goes on the list of movies that sound interesting to me but maybe I can only watch when I am reincarnated into someone who can watch intense & frightening scenes.:lol:

Just got back from watching Wicked. My overall rating: 8.4/10. I’m not a musical person, and I liked this a bit better than I thought that I would. Cynthia Erivo is fantastic and her performance basically made this come together. I also think that the costumes were really good.

Two nitpicks: 1) This REALLY should have been one film, even if it would have made it (I’m assuming) 3.5 hours, and 2) The brightness in the cinematography for all the “outside” scenes were almost unwatchable.

Overall, I don’t understand why Wicked AND Emilia Pérez are both getting so many nominations as musicals when it’s obvious that one is fairly good and the other is just beyond clunky to watch.

That was how I felt. That final twist seemed to come out of nowhere. But, it was thought provoking.

I didn't feel that way at all. In general, I thought the movie was more visually muted than I had expected.

Why is 1 million moms up in arms over wicked? What was there same sex wise? Even Kristin Chenoweth has defended the film and told 100 moms to buzz off.

It’s not just LGBT stuff that offends One Million Moms. It’s anything that contrary to how they think people should live. Also, there are many people who are just that bothered by anything that’s more popular than them. 😉

I won’t get into much more without this turning too much into something that probably belongs in PI. I’ll leave it at this.

@ilovepaydays

Emilia Pérez is a regressive movie that thinks it’s woke. It will probably win an Oscar.

Could a movie musical about a trans Mexican drug lord be this awards season’s Crash?

I’m wondering how much the hype over Emilia Pérez will fizzle out because, well, it just isn’t good. Especially when there’s Wicked, another musical, in the mix. And Wicked is actually fairly good.

Oh, Lord, I just started watching Maria on Netflix. So far is nothing but singing and singing and singing. How many of this year’s movies are sung?

Maria is currently on my Netflix list because of Angelina Jolie’s supposedly acclaimed performance. How good is she and the film? 🤔

I don’t know, this may be another one I abort. Starts off slow and slow burn of singing. To me it doesn’t look like Angelina‘s lip syncing, way she moves her mouth and passion to hit those notes matches Maria Callas’s singing. I’ll try to forge on later tonight.
