Ladies Grand Prix final standings analysis and other historical tidbits

No one mentions that Zagitova broke her arm two years before the Olympics.
I think most people here have never heard of Zagitova two years before olympics. She was an unknown skater with not that great results.

Two years before the Olympics (2018) is 2016. In Fall 2016 Zagitova won everything in site in Junior category (except bronze in Slovenia GP).
Prior to that (in 2015 fall GP season) she did not have any international assignments).

Actually, no. The Olympic season was season 2017-2018. Two years before olympics means season 2015-2016. That season Zagitova scored 154-178 points. Her best place was fourth place at Russian cup final in juniors. She qualified into Russian junior nationals and placed 9th with score of 160. She did not go to junior worlds, of course, or any other international competition. She was nobody.

The season where she won everything at junior level (except of one JGP where she placed 3rd) is season 2016-2017 and it is just one season before olympics.

@hanca
i certainly don't want to start an argument what is "2 years ago" by fiscal or by calendar standards/measures.. :lol:

Just for the record, Alina's skating history (one of the bio-recaps is below):
  • Alina moved from Izhevsk to Moscow (to Sambo-70) in early (?) 2015.
  • She was accepted to Tutberidze's group, she had a hard time changing from the "system" she trained by in Izhevsk, to the new system, and from Tutberdize transferred to another group in Sambo-70, supervised by another coach Tsareva (Pogorylaya's coach).
  • Zagitova trained with Tsareva for 3 months, and at that time sustained two injuries, first she broke her arm, and then broke her ankle.
  • After recovering, Alina's parents decided to return to Izhevsk. Alina and grand-mother came to Sambo-70, to say good-bye to all coaches she worked with. When they came up to Eteri to say farewell and thank you, Eteri offered Alina to return to her group and to try again.
  • Alina practiced in Eteri's group the rest of 2015, and in 2016 entered the international arena as a Junior.
.. and the rest we all know.

Well, if we are looking at seniors only, and not even count with the current seniors their injuries from a year or two ago because at that time they were juniors, then the sample is very limited. Tutberidze does not have that many seniors. Three of those she has has been seniors only for this season (which is two months -October and November). Tursynbaeva you dismissed that she had been injured before coming to Tutberidze, Medvedeva- the injury she had you dismissed because it didn’t seem to you serious enough....so who are the seniors you are actually basing your opinion on? Who are those lucky ones you decided to count? Should we count the past seniors, such as Tsurskaya, Pitkeev and Voronov, who actually were injured? Or who are the healthy ones?

You should come over and watch Housewives with me.. I love the attitude, angst and whining!!! All your OVER the top drama would be perfect for like Monday? Jersey Housewives? Or do you want to just do Sundays? Atlanta? I bet you are more Jersey.....

Ok, the discussion was about how well known Alina was two years before olympics. I said she was nobody, you claimed otherwise. If you want to be exact what Alina was exactly two years before olympics ...Olympics were in February 2018. Alina did two competitions in February 2016, Final Russian cup -placed fourth in juniors with the score of 178.59 and Perevenstvo Moskvy - placed 12th with score 160. How well known she was known in February 2016 - well, no international competitions and her best score of that season being 178...I think it is pretty clear how famous or not she was. The majority of people on this forum haven’t heard of her 2 years before olympics.

The examples you posted are from the next skating season. They are still year 2016, but it is towards the end of the 2016, at least six months or more after February 2016 and therefore only 1.5 year before olympics. I never said she was unknown 1.5 year before olympics. I said she was unknown two years before olympics.

I don’t give a damn when she broke arm, leg or any other part of her body. I never made claim that she broke anything with this coach or that coach. But if you want to start correcting people, maybe check the facts first.

@hanca
my info was more in response to another post: "No one mentions that Zagitova broke her arm two years before the Olympics", than a "2 years ago" issue.

LOL at how this thread morphed from "Russian ladies are dominating, then comes Japan, USA and a little bit of Korea. No other country in the mix this Grand Prix season" to "How injured are or were the Russian ladies in the last 2 years." Lol.

The "journey of a thousand miles" aka, not the only thread that morphs.
