I guess I'll be visiting my cousins in Kelowna again next October ;)
This time I'll plan ahead and see if they want me to get them tickets, though. Last time I had company for part of the practices and the gala.

Where did Sale and Pelletier make their GP debut, there or Kamloops? I forget.

Hate that I am missing SC in person this year....methinks I'll be there in 2019!

Here's what Kelowna has to offer for skating events:
- arena right next to the shore of a beautiful lake (with lovely fall foliage that time of year)
- great sightlines from pretty much any seat in the arena
- hotel right across the street from the arena, on the lakeshore, and lots of reasonably priced hotels within 10-15 mins drive
- casino in that hotel :bribe:
- in one of Canada's best wine-making regions, with lots of wineries that you can visit in the beautiful countryside :rockstar:
- lots of excellent and reasonably priced restaurants within walking distance of the arena
- only a four-hour drive from Vancouver, on major highways most of the way and through some truly spectacular scenery

I live in Okanagan Falls which is just a little over an hour drive away.
Down a beautifully scenic road.
With little traffic until you hit Kelowna.
But parking is reasonable within walking distance from the Kelowna arena at the library so I just drive.
Penticton another nice town is about a 45 minute drive to Kelowna.
It’s beautiful too and probably cheaper hotels.
But you’d need a car.
The arena and some hotels are right downtown so you wouldn’t need a car.
There’s a good bus route along a major highway that’s fairly close to the arena.
About 10 minute walk.

Very tempting, as Kelowna has long been on my list of places I want to travel to.

I just fly into Kelowna directly from SFO. Well, there is usually a layover somewhere. But I got pretty cheap flights the last time I had to come to the area. It's why I didn't end up driving (original plan)!

Kelowna is an international airport so flights would connect out of Vancouver, Toronto, Calgary and possibly Edmonton and Ottawa.

We drove last time and encountered inclement weather.

Think we'll fly this time around. As you say, it's fairly cheap.

I just checked the prices at the Delta/Marriott, which is probably the official hotel (It was last time). The prices are  this time- over $300 a night with the "resort fee" included. So not staying there this time. I did find a place that looks good just a 15 minute walk away- the Prestige Beach House Hotel- rooms at $120 a night. Looks good to me. A number of other nearby hotels seem to be unavailable right now- it's either too early or they are booked up. I like to have a place booked early (I can always cancel if something else comes up), At any rate this is the place https://www.prestigehotelsandresorts.com/locations/kelowna/overview/
