Junior Pairs SP & FS

I just rewound and watched the final group, I’m very familiar with flores and Wang. I’ve seen them many times, but Moss and Galbavy I thought that was really great, he’s going to be a star.

Even though I did not know who this team was, I’m very pleased they are in first, I hope this team shakes things up in the standings.

I just watched the program a second time, I could watch it again. Love their lines, their ice coverage their expression. They are two skating as one already.

Did some quick math and it looks like every team will be eligible for JGP next year except McFarland/Andjordin.

@Karen-W do you have the list of teams with Jr. Worlds CTES? I would assume they’ll choose the team from these four: Moss/Galbavy, Flores/Wang, Carpenter/Maravilla, and Williams/Lewer (competing in senior division).

There are 6 teams with Jr Worlds CTES mins -

Flores/Wang
Moss/Galbavy
Carpenter/Maravilla
Hansen/Church
McDanold/Felberbaum
Williams/Lewer

100% positive Flores/Wang will be on the JWC team, so it's really a fight for the other two spots. WilLew have struggled all season and I wouldn't send them over any of the other teams, but if they're looking good here, they may get the nod, especially if the rest of the teams behind FlorWang wind up a mess in the FS.

I was pleasantly surprised at how many quite good junior pair teams we saw. Many of them quite young too. Hope most stay together.

A little surprised about Flores & Wang. They still have a bit of a rag tag appearance….really need to get that clean unison down. They need consistent expression throughout too. Little errors eating away the score. But they really do skate with heart and always draw me in.

Moss/Galbavy really have improved! Very clean skating, nice unison. Nice expression. Also really like Carpenter/Maravilla. Yuka working some magic.

Question for the experts: Does the Novice short have the same elements as the Junior short? Is it accurate to compare Novice scores to Jr scores?

Juniors have required elements
All short programs have required elements.

Pairs have some more specific requirements than singles. Juniors have some more specified requirements than other levels.

So junior pairs have the most specified requirements.

Shapovalova/Griffin - small & crashy 2tw; SBS mirror 3s; these costumes are bizarre for a GOT program. Good throw 3s! Missed their combo; throw 2lo was two-footed and landed forward. Felt messy & labored.

ShaGri… I didn’t hate that. Given the theme, I would have preferred that she was a bit less smiley, but they did their elements and I never feared for her life. Good job, kids.

the rhythm of Andjorin's crossovers makes me wonder if he played hockey for some significant amount of time. A lot of times they have this sort of syncopated rhythm to their crossovers that he has lol this is so random i know

McFarland/Andjorin - The Mission - nice bit of opening choreo with her draped over his back arms outstretched looking like a cross. 2tw - decent; SBS 2a - he fell; SBS 2t+2t+1a - messy from both; nice lift; throw 2s - also good; doing a BODS for the FS too is a choice (no value - she didn't get her head low enough, I think); eeeek, big miss on the pairs spin - gonna wind up with no value b/c they restarted it; another nice throw 2lo - plenty of space to add a 3rd rotation; lifts are solid; this ending was terrible though - just stopped moving and the music cut off in the middle of "ahhhh!"

Kovar/McPike - The Tenors singing "Who Wants to Live Forever" - good 2tw; SBS 3s - she fell; I like these deep red costumes; oooooo lift fail - got her down safely though! Eeek - throw 3s fall; hope they can get back on track - SBS 2a+1a+1a - he landed badly on the 2a but they both kept going; lovely FIDS; throw 2lo - she heeeeeeeeld onto that! Second lift is much stronger - beautiful extension for her; not a lot of commitment from him in that choreo sequence, lol; bit clunky exit on the pairs spin. Hmmmm... there is potential here, just not fully baked yet, but give them 6 months & they could be an entirely different team.
