JoJo Gomez, Choreographer, Accuses Daniil Gleikhengauz of Stealing Her Work

This reminds me somewhat of when Debi Thomas created and choreographed a boss program to a James Bond medley (License to Kill/ Diamonds are Forever/ For Your Eyes Only) wearing a short trench coat, a black hat, and holding a gun as a prop. She took off the trench to reveal a negligee-themed black outfit with fur trim around the skirt, and for the final song pulled off the negligee to reveal a skimpy sizzling hot, sheer Vegas style outfit with sequins. It was a great concept and a brilliant technical program too that helped Debi win World Pros in late 1988. The imitations of this trench-coat, outfit-switching program were legion thereafter, with James Bond themes galore. It was the concept, the costumes and sometimes the music that were copied, not necessarily the moves. But still, the idea was original with Debi. She always tended to do her own choreography. Her versatility showed in the more lyrical fp she performed to classical music:

Uh oh, with Bond music being popular anyway in figure skating, I might be giving a new generation some ideas by recalling Debi Thomas' creativity.

@Nell411 ITA. Much more interesting beats and nuances to play with choreographically. Also all the teen angst in the lyric that attracts the kiddos these days.

He deletes just about everyone who posts something remotely negative about him; this isn't exclusive to this situation

Except she did it in a very public way, which conceivably generates more attention. My line of thinking is that I just don't recall someone screaming about "Stealing" and "copyright" when (I'm sure) similar things have happened before in skating programs "borrowing" from other mediums...

Welcome to 2019 and the social media era! For the best, for the worst!

It's mildly frustrating to me that the song involved in all this furor is bad guy when bury a friend is right there and it's a much better song.

Agreed! I love that song and this it would make a cool skating program. Also love “Lovely” by Billie Eilish as well as “Ocean Eyes.” She can do way better than ”Bad Guy.”

:watch: :encore:
More like this honestly https://www.instagram.com/p/Bt7RCG8AlwY/ (the Instagram link will work OK in a browser, you don't need Instagram for the video to play). I feel like it captures the mood better. Cordero Zuckerman's routine is solid though.

I just think Medvedeva would crush a program to bury a friend. I don't pay enough attention to Zagitova outside of competition stuff to really say if I think she could also crush a program to it. Gilles & Poirier would also kill with this music.

The few last drops on this issue:

Russian side is now also concerned about all the threats and wishes of harm to Zagitova (not just in connection with "Medvedeva's favorite music" and "JoJo's choreography", other issues have been taking place ever since she won Olympics, and have not lightened up). Articles starting to be written (and many bloggers too), noting the situation, and calling on people to stop.
"Zagitova is being ruthlessly hunted down (idiom was used "rat-poisoned")".

Gleikh and JoJo are all "nice and sweet", exchanging wishes to meet and to work together. JoJo and her boyfriend Donavan are posting on Alina's IG telling people to stop harassing Alina. If they end up doing something jointly, it will be great for all.

It's all fine and dandy, for every one, except for me - Alina it seems is keeping her "Bad Guy" programme :scream: which i did not like from the day i heard about it.

- This "Bad Guy" programme is jinxed.. :D Apparently Billie Eilish herself almost had a legal issue and was accused of plagiarism, by two photographers, Maurizio Cattelan and Pierpaolo Ferrari, who claimed that BE's video stole their concepts from published photos.
It was on the ArtNetNews in "Art and Law" section.

- and other publications.

- and, at the same time some accuse other artists of copying Billie Eilish.... :D

My observation: "Bad Guy" was #1 hit on Russian/European/North-Am FM Radio for several weeks. Reading the discussions on Russian and American chats/blogs.... turns out that 90%+ of people do not know what this song is REALLY about....

Where are you getting this from exactly? He just apologized. There is absolutely no indication I've seen that she would want to work with him
Pls don't ask me to re-post all the IG exchanges... :D Here are the ones easy to find.
He said "you're amazing and i hope we work on something on the ice together".

I think she is extremely talented & beautiful. I would love to teach her my choreography & dance with her.

With "her" (Alina). Not with Daniil.

Pointing out that the choreo was copied or not liking Alina's program is not harassment.

Dragging Medvedeva into every controversy, and insinuating she caused a dangerous situation for another individual (see your previous posts) IS harassment. And libel. Your posts are a legal accident waiting to happen.

Isn't it usually up to the choreographer to work out all the copyright issues with the program (music, etc)? Whether or not Zagitova was aware that part of the program was inspired by someone else's work, she should be entitled to rely on Dannil to figure these "adult" stuff out. I don't think she should be blamed, unless she was aware that Daniil would just proceed to steal the choreography without permission or credit and she knowingly went along with it. I don't know the legal requirements in the jurisdictions involved, but this latter scenario would at least have been morally wrong.
