JGP #5 - Solidarity Cup, Gdansk POL - Pairs SP & FS

I slept through the first two groups but hope to be here for the last three.

NapoComi - good 2tw to start; good SBS 3s! Strong first lift; throw 2s; SBS 3t+2t+2t - nice! Throw 2lo; second lift clean; pairs combo spin - those are what they are and everyone knows what I think of them ending most programs & this one is no different. Much better program for them today - best of the past 2 weeks and really shows their quality & potential.

MossGal - 3tw - crashy and barely avoided a fall; SBS 2a+2a+1a - really nice! Throw 2lo - meh; good first lift! Throw 3s - hand down but she stayed up! SBS 2s - okay; nice choreo seq with stag leaps to the music! Second lift was okay - she needs to work on her core strength, I think - her free arm was super-floppy. And they had a fall after they finished their ending pose and the music stopped - not sure that will be counted against them.

ETA - Ted agrees with me about the fall; and he & Mark are discussing it - they are speculating that perhaps it was because they hadn't quite established they were fully finished. Kind of junky to incur that 2.0 deduction.

ETA - 3.0 deductions - their fall and a time violation per Mark.

AckHarms - okay 3tw; strong first lift; throw 3s - she two-footed the landing; SBS 2f+combo - he fell out of the first jump and she finished the 3 jumps but he had some steps and got a 1a off, I think; okay 2nd lift; throw 2lo okay; SBS 2z - okay then. There were some positive bits, but not a lot. They seem like a well-matched pair, but things just aren't really coming together technically.

Pacha/Derechowski - okay 2tw; SBS 2a - he stepped out of his; throw 2s - okay; lift fail - his arms just collapsed and he did the rotations with her legs draped over his shoulder. Second lift went much better; throw 2lo fine; SBS 2z+1a+1a fine. Underwhelming and they'll fall quite a bit in the standings.

EnKov - 2tw nice; SBS 3s - bit tilty on the landing but stayed up; SBS 2a+2a - excellent! throw 3s - low landing but she held on; slow on the 2nd lift footwork but fine otherwise; throw 3lo - good! Better 2nd lift - I expect these to improve as he gains more upper body strength. Overall, a very nice program!

QuaDes - 2tw okay; SBS 2a okay; first lift - nice; throw 3s - step out from her; good DS; SBS 2z+1a+1a okay; nice 2nd lift; throw 2lo okay; good pairs spin to end - I'll not complain about it except her slight stumble on the exit.

I think that is going to be enough to maintain their 5th place which they need in order to have a prayer of qualifying for the JGPF still (pending the results of CarMara & HanChu).

HanChu - 3tw okay; SBS 2a nice; throw 2s good; SBS 2f+2t+1a nice; good DS and right into their pairs spin - what a great & difficult transition! Nice first lift; choreo seq into throw 2lo good; and they end on their 2nd lift also nicely done - not sure why it has an X as the TES tracker leaves the screen. That was a really nice program.

ETA - the final lift did get the value after all. I disagree with them being in 3rd in the FS & 2nd overall, but that's mostly because I'm being a homer here.

Plus, that moves QuaDes up to 5th and pretty much guarantees they've qualified for the JGPF - barring CarMara winning the whole thing today.

Still to skate:

YAY, Hansen/Church exceeded (42.69) the TES they needed today (37.09) to get the 63 combined TES minimum for Junior Worlds! I enjoyed their Nutcracker program too. :)

ETA: That's likely why they and Stefania Berton were so happy/shared the big group hug in the kiss & cry. :D

In earlier groups, I loved USA’s H/C…in an adorable Nutcracker. Ready for the holidays! 🎄

Okay, final group is starting!

Rolland/Lacasse - grey pants, white longjohn shirt with black suspenders; her dress is grey with large silvery floral appliques all over the bodice.

Okay 2tw; throw 3s - fall; SBS 3s - stepped out on his landing; nice 1st lift; throw 2lo okay; another strong lift; SBS 2f+1a+1a messy landings; music is Legends of the Fall soundtrack and this is a piece of music we haven't heard in awhile and we need to hear it more because it's really beautiful.

ETA - TES dropped a lot on review and they drop behind both QuaDes & HanChu. Hmmm...

CarMara - 2tw okay; SBS 3s - she falls; really good first lift; throw 3s - she steps out on the landing; SBS 2a+rep - wish they'd added on a 2t or something; nice DS; throw 2lo - she put her foot down on the landing; good 2nd lift; meh pairs spin to end.

This won't be enough to keep them on the podium, which is unfortunate, but they have plenty they can take from this competition and go back home to work on everything.

Ukrainians - loved the lift going from one direction to other. Sleek look. Long lines.

HolDar - SBS 2f+2t okay; throw 3tw good; SBS 3s - she put both hands down; throw 3lo fall; really nice lift; excellent DS; throw 3s down again; second lift is also good; slow-ass pair spin to end.

This should be enough to keep them in 2nd overall, based on PCS and their lead from the SP. I'm glad they'll get this small amount of prize money given their training situation. Crossing my fingers the ISU Council thinks about the challenges a team like this is having when they meet later today to, once again, discuss possibly lifting the ban on Russian & Belarusian skaters.

Are they doing that again? Good grief.

ZhaHua - of course Bandit thinks she needs attention RIGHT NOW! 3tw - very high & airy; SBS 3t+2a+seq - he fell on the 2a; lame choreo seq; SBS 3s - she stepped out of the landing; throw 3f - very high and good distance! This music is so effin' dreary - did they not get the message to pick non-dire music? Decent lift, DS and pairs spin - they get points for it not being super-slow or at the end of the program. Throw 3lo - high but not far; another good lift to end.

Yeah, they're winning today and it's not even close.

It's on the ISU Council agenda - I presume it's always on their agenda. Who knows how quickly they say "yeah, no, we're good with continuing the ban" and moving right along like they did at the Congress in June when approving the continuing Communications.

Chinese excellent with out-of-this-world throws. So happy to see the new Chinese pairs in this series. 🇨🇳

They and the senior H/V team make me hopeful for the future.
