Rewound to watch the penultimate group

Homick/Buelow

Nice potential for these two, weakest part was probably her steps and turns, but she can work on that like Zingas did when she was new to dance, lifts performed with ease, set a nice gentle mood

Pedersen/Starr

Pedersen’s coming off a partnership where Chen was the star and in Starr’s old partnership, expression was a weakness for both, it’s definitely still a weakness, but they’ve hardly had time to work on it—I’ll withhold judgement for now, musical straight line lift, some sticky moments

Frankly, I’m not convinced they need (or earned) two JGP assignments this season. Stapert/Korotcov could have used the chance and P/S clearly need more time to gel.

Kobor/Kobor

Good unison and spacing in twizzles, some nice fundamentals to build on

Schubert/Remeshevskiy

Nice warmth between the partners, nice lifts, good basics, time to add more speed and power

Yes and no? Without the RD errors, they would have easily outscored what Ilin/Cain achieved last week, and even with the errors they still scored higher than both Renzi/Lissauer and Deych/Hu did in their lone GPs.

While Stapert/Korotcov are scoring close to RenLis domestically, it seems pretty clear that PedStarr would beat them already. I could make just as strong an argument that Ilin/Cain don't need a 2nd JGP as PedStarr and given their 2nd one to StapKor instead.

Finelli/Bucciarelli looked disappointed, as Ted (I think) observed, but to almost make the podium after such a short time together is an accomplishment they can be proud of. I can't get over how quickly the future of Italian ice dance has turned around!

Why exactly are W/T still in Juniors they are practically 21/20 now.
They were asked by USFS to drop back down to Jrs after the ISU raised the age limit. The USFS knew that WolfTsar weren't likely to get any GP assignments since the USA is nearly maxed out (CoC is the only GP with less than 3 US teams, and FlorDes were already ahead of WolfTsar on the SB list). This was a way of getting them out there internationally and potentially on the JWC podium which would probably get them at least 1 GP next season, plus the USA wasn't looking super-strong on the jr level, or so they believed.

Also, Wolfkostin was recuperating from a leg fracture this spring and W/T had a late start to their season - only began serious training in June, IIRC?

You've met the Bercy Pigeon. Now say hello to the Gdansk Butterfly. :D
If they can start hurricanes, everyone can definitely start blaming their jump falls on it.

I'm just catching up with the FD's.

Hilda Taylor has lovely arms and shading in her upper body that's unusual among the lower-ranked teams. I loved her green dress.

Tianyi Liu had really good physical expression until his mistake on one of the turns, after which the wind seemed to be knocked from his sails, but he picked it up again in the last third or so. He and Yu skating to music with a constant beat, which was refreshing after the yards and yards of meandering musical choices that have a lot more leeway from the couples ahead of them.

I really like Cohas-Bogey/Grishin and their engagement with the program. I think the program is terrific and a stretch for them. I hope to be able to see them again later in the season.

Vaclavikova/Morozov's elegance and clarity made up for the generic quality of their program. They look like they're going places.

Homick/Buelow skate closely together, much like their coach did with Paul, although at a different level. I know she was a Pairs skater, and had already learned to have a working relationship with a partner and to be comfortable skating with another person, but actual skating closely is almost a nice-to-have in Pairs in the SBS Pairs elements, including footwork, and they were closer than many senior Dance teams. Like a number of teams, they were more comfortable stylistically with their FD music and choreography than with their RD's.

I am so grateful to the Kobor twins for their music.

Schubert/Remeshevskiy were impressive, especially considering that they had limited training when she had a concussion. I like them more than Janse von Rensburg/Steffan, if not as much as Grimm/Staviyski.

I love Dovhal/Kulesza. I think their choreography is wonderful, and they skate with finish and amplitude without hesitation into and out of their transitions. They don't look like juniors to me.

Mouaden/Bigot are so fantastic. I think that version of Believer is too bombastic for them, but Piton isn't going to give them a run-of-the-mill program to one of the early-mid 00's Cirque scores, so we get what we get.

Finelli/Buccarelli are remarkable for having been together only six months. I hate Notre Dame de Paris. I liked it better when I muted it. I want a sweater quantity of yarn in the color of her dress.

Gauthier/Theiren skated round and round and did stuff, which I found dull. Thankfully for them, the judges did not agree.

Wolfkostin/Tsarevski. Automatic mute until the replay. I get why they won, but I find them sloppy.
