JGP #5 - Solidarity Cup, Gdansk POL - Men's SP & FS

Kuperman - trying to give Israel a medal on the GP this season! Solid 4t! Hand down on the 2nd 4t, so no combo; and he pops 1a... Promising start but he needs to get his head back in the game - 3z+3t; 3lo; 3z+2a+1a okay... nice spin, but a 2f for his last jump... this is going to be close, I think, to see if he can stay ahead of Minkyu. He had a 20 pt lead from the SP, sooooo...

Kuperman

And he crossovers into the wall, nice 4t, less successful second quad attempt and then a popped axel, time to get it together, 3z-3t, not a lot of choreography or expression, pretty nervy skate, but maybe enough for a medal anyway on strength of SP

Danggggggg... Missed a medal by less than .5! And that should get Minkyu to the JGPF.

LOL - Sena pops up a 1a to open; falls on the 3z; bit up on the toepick for the landing of the 3f+3t... I could get behind a Lukas V gold here, TBH.

If Takahashi wins, both he and Seo qualify for JGPF
Yeah, I'm gonna just root for a Lukas V win here because Sena just popped his other 1a.

Well, okay 3lo+3t+2t; then a 3f+2t; and a 3s...

He had an 8 point lead and I cannot get behind him beating Lukas V here. His PCS shouldn't be that much higher with that mess of a program.

Terrible start for Takahashi, but then lands 3z-3t, um, maybe a medal for Israel after all, 3 jump combo with no flow, okay landing jumps at the end. I have no idea about interpretation, I kept going

Takahashi trying hard to give Israel a medal. Very sad. Even his coach’s loud clapping didn’t help.
Got a silver, but not a great one.

I was most impressed by Imedashvili’s (LTU) overall 6th place/5th FP.

Well, good for Lukas! I don't think anyone had Slovakia's first JGP gold of the season coming from Vaclavik on their FS bingo card, lol!

Okay, I’m gonna have to do math :COP:, but Takahashi is in at 28. Seo sits on bubble at 26 (not locked because no dual gold medalist yet—but most likely in ETA: okay did math; Correction: Seo is IN
because dual gold doesn’t matter since he beats gold medalist Vaclavik. Even if he loses to five other gold medalists, he can’t be knocked out of final). Vaclavik really on bubble with only 24 points.

Yeah, the math looks to be good for Seo because of the way the last two events are split.

I can’t believe PAradis was third in the free with 53 tes. That says sth about the event
You have to wonder how many of the guys assigned to the next two JGPs are annoyed with their feds for not rearranging assignments (Excepting Sanchez, Blackwell & Tian since the US & CHN didn't have an assignment in Gdansk).

Hagara - 211.23 Czechia
Li - 230.29 Thailand
Nakata - 218.71 Thailand

Hopefully the last two weeks are better competed under the stress & pressure of making the JGPF.

On paper, Hagara was way better off in Slovenia, where he only really has to worry about Jacob Sanchez, who he beat 3 times last season (JGP Hungary, Youth Olympics, and Junior Worlds), and maybe Haru Kakiuchi.

The Wuxi competitors are another story...

Not only that, I lol'd irl at this placement:

5Anthony PARADIS
CAN.GIF
CAN
192.7043

I'd be mad if I placed fifth after a 4th and a 3rd but I'm not a skater so it's just kinda funny. Junior men are wild.

Feel bad for Tamir who had very close calls for bronze at both events :-(
Felt more badly for him at his first JGP than this week - he didn't have to skate lights out, just passable and he didn't.
