I couldn't watch, she looks sooo thin.
On an unrelated trivial note, those bangs were her best idea and I wish Kaori would get some too.

Thank you for the link. The smoothness and fluidity of Mai's movements are simply sublime, with edges like a knife cutting butter and her jumps are quite good considering it has been such a long time since she skated on ice and most of all she skates with a lot of feeling and soul. The legacy of Mao's marvelously artistic and expressive skating lives on in wonderfully unique ways in two skaters who expressed that she was their inspiration: Rika Kihira and Mai Mihara.

@rosewood do we have updates about Nagai and Co?
I was kinda  about some of those GP spots given away.
It's just my guess but basically 1) they chose skaters for NHK based on last season's SB 2) they wanted to give a chance to as many Sr debuting up-comers as possible 3)they thought Mihara is worthy to get a spot for NHK as a comeback skater.

ISU's SB of last season:
*Kihira, *Miyahara, Higuchi, Sakamoto, Matsuike(#27, Jr, 193.03), Yokoi, Yamashita, Kawabe(#38, Jr, 185.22), Araki(#41, Jr, 181.80), Honda, Kawabata(Nationals bronze, #52, Jr, 177.86 ), Uramatsu(#61, Jr, 171.32) // Shiraiwa(#63, 170.03), Sumiyoshi(#79, Jr, 161.06)

10 skaters based on 2019-2020 BS + Mihara =11
I guess the TBD spot will go to the one among Shiraiwa (based on SB, withdrew from Nationals due to injuries), Hongo (come back skater), Young You (Hamada's student, if restrictions allow), or Nagai (who placed higher at Nats than some of those skaters who got a spot). Maybe JSF is monitoring those skaters (at Regionals etc) and CV19 environments.

Her skating is really beautiful but I hope she gets her health issues sorted out. She looks way too thin, not sure if it’s the result of an eating disorder or other illness or both. Hope she continues to recover so we can see her back on international I’ve eventually!

I heard a rumor it's an auto-immune desease, started serveral years back.

ETD: I found the article, https://www.asahi.com/articles/ASJBK3F4QJBKUTQP00D.html. She's been suffering from juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (JRA). Please correct me if I misinterpreted the article.

Oh poor Mai! It’s an awful condition to deal with and difficult to get the meds right (lots of trial and error to find the best combo). I hope she can continue to manage it well and compete from time to time.

Watching her two performances at the 2020 Regionals, I'm filled with mixed feelings for Mai. 🌹🌹🌹:wuzrobbed:wuzrobbed

Mai, you are a so strong woman. Your love for skating is amazing. I don't know what to say other than this.
Did I miss something about Mai? Has she been having difficulties? I thought her FS here looked pretty good.
