So nice to see Chris Reed with an ISU championship medal after all those years. What is Cathy doing now?
I don't know if her Wikipedia entry is up to date but it says that she works as a figure skating coach and choreographer in Kansai University with Mie Hamada and Yamato Tamura.

I think she (or maybe it was Chris?) told in some interview that she mostly works with singles skaters. (Because Japan.)

Here's Cathy's instagram: https://www.instagram.com/cmr2070/

She was also doing commentary and interviews on the International feed for the Grand Prix Final & Junior Grand Prix Final.

Here is a video of Sui's 3A-3T. Rotations looked iffy but still.

Cathy and Ted Barton were simply delightful together at the Junior Grand Prix Series Final. I hope their pairing wasn't just a one - off.

I didn't think she added anything. I suppose it is nice for him to have someone to talk to, but she didn't explain anything about the dance that wasn't already obvious to a casual observer.

That's OK. I doubt Japan sees itself as a team event medal contender. I am just surprised that he doesn't want to at least compete in a short program before his main event. He will have not competed in 3.5 months when his main event starts.

A smart, strategic decision by Hanyu. Although, selfishly, I would have been so happy to see him skate for the team. Better to err on the side of caution.

Yuna pretty much did the same for Sochi, and even moreso at 2013 Worlds. Although the ladies did and still do extraordinary easier content comparatively so no exactly the samsame.

I am more worried that maybe he is not that ready yet.
Hanyu is not someone who goes into the Olympics not being ready. The guy kinda has an OCD... he cut his own music and decides mostly everything on his own. Seimei has 33 different music cuts. I am sure he will be ready.

Nobody wants to be NOT ready. It's just that there are reports of his injury being more serious than previously assessed and he got back to the ice relatively late.

No matter who wins, I would love it if Hanyu could show up fully ready for a fight with Shoma, Nathan and Javier.

I think it is more like there is a huge media blackout so people have no idea about his true condition. But knowing Yuzuru, I think he just prefers to have no connection to the world (he did say that in several interviews before). He will be fine.

just spotted on twitter:
This news report says that brian said on 5th Feb that yuzuru will definitely appear at the individual event. It adds that he will be avoiding the 4Lz

word of caution, though:
it's Kyodo News which is a news company but they've put out dodgy speculative reports in the past iirc? (I think they were the ones asking 'experts' to speculate on yuzu's injury). the wording is also more like 'it is said he will be avoiding the 4Lz' which is dodgy

the Kyodo news article in question: https://twitter.com/kyodo_official/status/960510411341676544

Is Yuzu training in Japan now? To help minimize his transit time/jet lag? Brian must be needing to head to Korea by now, isn't Gabby doing team event Ladies?

Yet, reportedly Yuzuru's attempting things like 4T-1lo-4T at a Gala practice, with painkillers. I don't know if I should:yikes:or  .
https://english.kyodonews.net/news/...flag-at-closing-ceremony-worlds-in-doubt.html
I guess he thinks after this gala he will have to rehab for a very long time along with no jump as well.
Hanyu said he will continue to take painkillers until the exhibition is done.

"I'll keep taking them so I don't lose my skating feeling but I will start reducing the dosage and then after that, I have to look at how I am feeling and take it from there."

"It is launching into the lutz and loop that is causing pain but landing is okay as long as I am taking the painkillers."
