A medal at the GPF for a Japanese skater probably goes a long, long way in an Olympic season. Not that he wasn't already a heavy Olympic team favorite. This is the first time I see such a celebration over a 40 pts loss.

. Not by a big enough margin, but happy to see some semblance of reality-based judging. What's tonight's Lotto number, please.I hope the judges have the courage to put this fourth, where it belongs, in the free skate.

What did you just watch? Nowhere near his best. Doubled toe loop. Doubled loop (and a messy combo there at that). Tight 3A at the end. Quite a few points thrown away in those two missed opportunities at triples in the combo. That's the best I've seen Kagiyama skate that and it only came in fourth. His team and he need to do something about this FS as it's just not working for him.
It overwhelms him. I think the lengths his team has gone to with this FS - the special music arrangement, the custom recording, etc - plus the subpar construction of the last three elements (the step sequence should precede the choreo sequence, IMO) - it's put this enormous pressure on him and he has yet to deliver a clean FS yet this season, which leaves a "hmmm" impression in the end. He's wonderful, but I still can't get into Yuma's LP.
He's made mistakes in the jumps in every skate I've seen this season. What did you just watch? Nowhere near his best. Doubled toe loop. Doubled loop (and a messy combo there at that). Tight 3A at the end. Quite a few points thrown away in those two missed opportunities at triples in the combo.
92.91 vs. 92.17 - everything that's broken about the system right there. There's a TES mark for a reason and in fact, there's a reason skaters who are once in a lifetime JUMPS-wise can run away with that mark.
