ISU 2025 GPF Men FS - Fa, A Long Long Way To Shun

A bit too rushed on many of the jumps, although still doing them, it got really tight at the end and it isn't quite hitting as a whole package like some of his previous programs. But he's still the absolute best skater and can get down the ice with little to no movement repeatedly in this program. The step sequence is near perfection.

Obviously has it all over Malinin in skating skills and in composition, and at least there was a program for the 4 minutes. But it doesn't matter these days.

The tech content just isn't there, and a lot of the GOE is generous. The quad toe - double toe would have had negative GOE for any other skater.

I hope the judges have the courage to put this fourth, where it belongs, in the free skate. He should be last on the technical mark with the lack of content (but won't be).

Lots of little bobbles here and there for Yuma on the jumping passes. He had enough of a lead over Shun from the SP that I can't see the judges doing the right thing here and giving Shun the silver medal.

I still stand by my criticism about the last three elements of this program not really building to an effective end.

Kagiyama making a lot of small errors. Come on, you can't afford that here. Beautifully skated but should be behind Sato.

Disappointed for him. Malinin was unstoppable but Kagiyama needed to be clean with Sato being on in both parts of the event.

Beautiful program for Yuma but not sure if enough tonight for the podium

ETA 4th in free but 2nd overall due to short so that is fair

Interview:

Kagiyama: I'm kicking myself. But, Malinin-senshu delivering a FANTASTIC skate and Shun also doing great is giving me great motivation.

Sato: Before starting the FS, unfortunately (he chuckles) I heard Malinin-senshu's score and that really made me nervous.

They said a lot more, but that was all I could type.

That's the best I've seen Kagiyama skate that and it only came in fourth. His team and he need to do something about this FS as it's just not working for him.
What did you just watch? Nowhere near his best. Doubled toe loop. Doubled loop (and a messy combo there at that). Tight 3A at the end. Quite a few points thrown away in those two missed opportunities at triples in the combo.

He's wonderful, but I still can't get into Yuma's LP.
It overwhelms him. I think the lengths his team has gone to with this FS - the special music arrangement, the custom recording, etc - plus the subpar construction of the last three elements (the step sequence should precede the choreo sequence, IMO) - it's put this enormous pressure on him and he has yet to deliver a clean FS yet this season, which leaves a "hmmm" impression in the end.

He's made mistakes in the jumps in every skate I've seen this season.

ETA and it was a SB score, too

92.91 vs. 92.17 - everything that's broken about the system right there. There's a TES mark for a reason and in fact, there's a reason skaters who are once in a lifetime JUMPS-wise can run away with that mark.

Hard disagree. Kagiyama had so many little errors, balance checks, etc. If a fall is going to cap the PCS, the multiple mistakes that Kagiyama had -- which I find even more disruptive -- should cap the PCS, too. 8.5 seems appropriate for what Kagiyama put out with three mistakes plus several other little errors. Ignoring the code and focusing on big picture, I'd prefer a code that scored Sato significantly above Kagiyama to have given him the silver.
