ISU Communication No. 2353:

🇫🇷 JGP Courchevel (August 18-21)
🇨🇦 JGP Edmonton (August 25-28)
🇸🇰 JGP Kosice (September 1-4)
🇷🇺 JGP Krasnoyarsk (September 15-18)
🇸🇮 JGP Ljubljana (September 22-25)
🇵🇱 JGP Gdańsk (September 29-October 2)
🇦🇹 JGP Linz (October 6-9)

Hey, it’s almost a year from now, we can hope.

It’s a shame that the cancelled Japanese JGP from this season wasn’t carried over.

But the Russian JGP is literally in Siberia, so expect a Chelyabinsk-sized crowd again.

Well, most of these countries probably have enough vaccine supply to innoculate a majority of their populations by that time and since these competitions are in smaller cities instead of larger ones it may actually be feasible.

My only concern is with the 2nd event, since Canada seems to be extra-cautious with all-things-******.

How are JGP spots to be allocated for next year given no Junior Worlds? (Sorry if I missed it earlier.)

That's very good news for Italian Junior Men and Georgian Junior Ice Dancers, who will have two entries at every event. The Georgian Federation should be recruiting right now. 🇬🇪

Just noticed the 2021-22 ISU JGP Announcement is now linked from here: https://www.isu.org/figure-skating/events/junior-grand-prix-of-figure-skating

Direct link (25 pages): https://www.isu.org/docman-document...-grand-prix-2021-22-general-announcement/file

Entries by country per discipline are based on the results of 2020 Junior Worlds - refer to Tables A-D on pages 15-18.

Key excerpts:

Skaters/Couples entered for an event of the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating may not participate
in the same discipline of an event of the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating (senior) in the same season.

Additional Entries
For Men and Ladies and Ice Dance, if any ISU Member mentioned under a) to c) does not use its right to enter Skaters in the competition concerned, this entry will be given to the first ISU Member, mentioned under b) for an additional entry.
If another ISU Member mentioned under a) to c) does not use its right to enter Skaters in the competition concerned, this entry will be given to the second ISU Member mentioned under b). If all ISU Members under b) receive the right of a second entry, all further places not used will not be considered for replacement. The order of priority as listed has to be observed.

2.4 Procedure of Nominating and Deadline
The following procedure is necessary to control and to calculate points as well as to offer possible changes
of non-used slots within the various events:
a) Entries by number
ISU Members must announce by June 1, 2021 at the latest, to the ISU Secretariat, their
participants by number for all seven events of the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating. The
official forms must be used. The ISU Members must also announce by June 1, 2021 the disciplines
and/or the events in which they were originally entitled to enter participants but will not use this
right.
Requests of changes of events or slots will only be approved in exceptional circumstances and
must be addressed to the ISU Secretariat by May 21, 2021.
ISU Members announcing the events and disciplines after the above-mentioned deadline will lose
the right to participate in the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating.
b) Entries by Names (Competitors and Judges)
Entries by names of Competitors and Judges must be made through the ISU Members in the Online
Registration System (ORS) respecting the individual entry deadlines as given in the
respective announcement of each ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating event.
Each ISU Member must also announce the official substitute entries (Competitors and Judges) in
each discipline (see also the individual announcements).
c) Name Changes
Any change(s) of Competitors before each event of the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating
can only be made among the names officially entered, and must be corrected in the ORS
accordingly.
Based on the information received from the ISU Members, the ISU will inform the ISU Members concerned
about changes or additional possibilities to enter Competitors, after June 15, 2021.

Tucked away in this article linked in this thread: https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/th...rves-isu’s-lifetime-achievement-award.108383/
ISU JGP announcer Ted Barton talked about the plans for the coming campaign in a phone call with Ice Time this week after last season’s JGP was canceled.
“Plan A is that we move forward as is. We travel, we execute, we produce, like we have always done at a high level,” Barton stated. “We introduce a whole new generation of young skaters because of the two-year gap. Any juniors that we would have known have now moved to senior.”
Barton said the new JGP season will offer viewers something unique.
“We will see the cleanest slate of juniors we have ever seen,” Barton commented. “Because we have always had a mix of some juniors who were moving to seniors the next year, some who were staying around for two years, or three years, or four years. But this is brand new and clean. We will understand, at least from my perspective, what this next generation over the next eight years will be when we take a look at these skaters.”
Fingers crossed!

Yeah, I figured that was likely given that both the federal government and the public aren't in any hurry to reopen the borders.

What a shock. Except it's not. I hope that the USFS or some other fed can step in and offer to host this JGP event.

IFS Magazine says France will be hosting back to back to make up for the cancellation. I haven't seen this anywhere else though. so no idea how official it is.

The border is set to reopen for vaccinated adults in July, so I'm assuming the issue is that for this junior event especially there'd be lots of younger teenagers who are low-priority for vaccination in their countries, and thus wouldn't in all likelihood be able to come.

It's a bit more complicated ( I have been following as my daughter will go in August to study)

Long story short the rule change on July 5th is for fully vaccinated (at least 14 days before arrival) who are permitted to enter Canada are no longer subject to the mandatory hotel and 14 day quarantine. They need to present a PCR test within 72 hours of arrival, get retested when landing and wait for the results. If it's negative they are free and no longer have to quarantine. If they are positive they have to have quarantine arrangements ready.

So the only real change is for those who are currently eligible to come to Canada is to skip mandatory hotel and 14 quarantine if they are fully vaccinated and pass two PCR tests. For everyone else the current rules/restricitions are extended until July 21st. And possibly longer depending on what the government decides.

They only accept 4 vaccines (Pfizer, Moderna, AZ and Janssen) which could be an issue for quite a few competitors/officials who took, for example, Sputnik. I imagine based on the timing of the announcements (cancellation and French Fed announcing back to back to make up for it) that at least SC, French Fed and the ISU were going over the current situation and decided it's too late to see what the rules are on July 21st and to pull the plug now.

The ISU website calendar has been updated to list Courchevel as hosting JGPs #1 & #2 (Edmonton's dates were August 25-28, 2021) -- here's the event page for #2: https://www.isu.org/figure-skating/...grand-prix-of-figure-skating?templateParam=11

Thanks!
ETA Found the official ISU announcement

The Fédération Française des Sports de Glace (FFSG) confirmed their willingness and feasibility to host two Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Events back-to-back in Courchevel and the ISU Council agreed to allot them the second Junior Grand Prix. Consequently the first two ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating events of the series will take place in Courchevel (FRA) on August 18-21 and August 25-28, 2021.

Due to the lack of a practice rink in Courchevel, the Pair Skating event which was planned in Canada, will move to the sixth ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating event in Gdansk (POL) on September 29-October 2, 2021.

Updated calendar (individual Announcements will be linked from each of the event pages):

August 18-21, 2021 Courchevel / FRA ISU event page

August 25-28, 2021 Courchevel / FRA ISU event page

September 1-4, 2021 Kosice / SVK (including Pair Skating) ISU event page

September 15-18, 2021 Krasnoyarsk / RUS (including Pair Skating) ISU event page

September 22-25, 2021 Ljubljana / SLO ISU event page

September 29 - October 2, 2021 Gdansk / POL (including Pair Skating) ISU event page

October 6-9, 2021 Linz / AUT (including Pair Skating) ISU event page

That makes sense. As the upcoming border changes apply only to fully vaccinated Canadians and permanent residents, it is likely that there would be parents, coaches, etc. who would not be permitted to enter and those that do would still have to quarantine.
