Increasingly likely “Russia” will be banned from Pyeongchang

@caseyedwards @kittyjake5 There's no legitimate, well-known news organization reporting this. No one is reporting the IOC is banning them (and no news on them considering a ban since October) and no one is reporting that Russia is boycotting. No statement from Putin has been made. There have been no new updates to this story today. The head of the Pyeongchang committee says he wants Russia to compete. WADA is considering further sanctions (that's old news), but can't do much to ban Russia without the IOC's approval.

Unless a good source (Reuters, AP, etc.) reports it, or it's from the mouth of Putin/IOC President/etc. I won't say a ban is happening.

Insidethegames is one of the premiere Olympic focused news sources in the world. Usually the general news press follows them. ITG is not fake news.
 
Well, it's not the skaters who are being targeted, it's their federation/ government sports authority. Of course it's the skaters/ athletes who end up paying the heavy price.

The skaters were indeed targeted, just cleared after the damage to their reputation has been done, and many could care less as the clearence doesn't make big news.
What is happening is called "removing the competition" by any means necessary. It is dirty and dishonest.
The only way to stop this is for cleared athletes and their federations to sue for damages. No public accusations should be made without irrefutable evidence.
 
Like I said, it's the athletes who end up paying the heavy price. More than likely, a compromise of some kind will be put together by the IOC in order for the athletes to compete. We shall see how it all transpires shortly.
 
WOW! That would certainly turn things upside down. I don't believe it will ever happen.....but it would be a kind of delightful chaos as it sorts itself out.
 
@Coquelicot14 I think @AxelAnnie is referring to the drama. I don't want Russia banned because we'd miss out on great performances that way, but man the drama would be so :watch::watch::watch:

As for the NYT article, it just says WADA acted. WADA doesn't control the Olympics - they can't ban anyone from the Olympics. The IOC makes that choice. I don't see a blanket ban on Russian athletes happening. Instead, I think it'll be like the Rio games - athletes from certain sports (those with ample evidence of doping beyond the guy's testimony, I think biathalon and speed skating for the winter games?) banned with individuals in those sports being allowed to compete based on their distance from the doping scandal and athletes in sports with 0 evidence of doping (ie. figure skating) being allowed to compete.

Things have changed. No one is supporting the Rio option anymore. That was not effective in getting putin to admit there was state sponsored doping
