Impact of Russia-Ukraine War on sports worldwide

Yes, it's Russia.
From an interview with Olha Kharlan. Olympic champion and six-time world champion. And now she has every chance not to go to Paris

- Did the FIE decide on the admission of Russians because of its connections with past Russian leaders? What is the reaction of the world's athletes to this?

- Yes, the International Fencing Federation did everything to bring the whole world to its knees. Personally European countries when they made another competition and divided the European Games. They showed in such a way that for them athletes are worthless.
They were ready to make the European Championship in very bad conditions in two weeks. The athletes were not ready, some were injured, some were not in shape.
Because you start the season in November and end in August. And you already have every step, every preparation, every competition written down - all athletes understand this. And when competitions are simply postponed or added to you, everything goes haywire. Because it was already the eleventh competition of the season and very, very important.

They are not neutral, because three athletes from Russia were registered in the women's saber two days before the competition. One of them liked pictures supporting the war two days before the competition.

- Kobzeva?

- Yes, and I asked specifically about her. I asked in which place they are neutral. Do they have a letter confirming neutrality? How did you check them? Because only when our federation provided this information, FIE took it down. And what is the commission doing at this time? Which officers check it? Did they sign any declarations? They say: yes, they signed. show me There is no specific one, you know? And I asked such questions, but, of course, I was not given answers to them. But it confirms that everything is done to please the Russians. And they are sending some athletes born in 2003 and 2002 there not to compete, but to spite us .

- Have you been to the championship of Ukraine already during the war?

- And the Cup of Ukraine was held in Lviv, and there was just one siren. You are fencing, and just in the middle of the fight you are stopped - we all go to shelter. We sat there for a couple of hours. Then it will be necessary to warm up again, to continue fencing. Just praying nothing goes wrong just to finish this competition.

God, what a shame. Today is 500 days of war, and the whole world is actively helping the russians not to end this war.

"Today marks the 500th day of the attack on Ukraine by Russian President Vladimir Putin."
That's all you need to know.
Apparently it's putin and only him attacked Ukraine, you see.

Russia and Belarus will not get a formal invitation to the 2024 Paris Olympics when more than 200 national teams receive their traditional invites later this month, the IOC said Thursday.
It is an International Olympic Committee tradition exactly one year before a Summer Games or Winter Games opens to invite all the national teams worldwide to the event.
Despite the protocol move, some Russian and Belarusian athletes could still compete in Paris — despite their countries’ war on Ukraine — without their national teams being invited.
The IOC said Thursday that 203 eligible national Olympic committees (NOCs) will be sent their invitations to Paris on July 26.

Excerpt from the above article:
The FIG claims that in order to be granted neutral status, athletes must apply for it "in accordance with the Ad-hoc rules" and if successful they will be eligible to participate in the organisation's events from January 1 2024.
The Ad-hoc rules and supporting documents are set to be published in the coming weeks after being finalised by the Executive Committee.
"By accepting Russian and Belarusian gymnasts to participate in competitions as independent neutral athletes, the FIG is ensuring that the rights of all athletes are respected and is sending a message to the world that gymnastics is seeking peace," said FIG President Morinari Watanabe.

Because it worked so well the last time russian gymnasts competed as neutrals….
And their last appearance was impressive
Ivan Kuliak and letter Z. Is it legal at all?

It was to be expected. Very sad for everyone involved, but especially for the Ukr gymnasts. I hope they, at the very least, do not accept someone like Nikita N. who was very proud of the killings conducted by his country. On the other hand, I guess it makes sense for the 14-15 girls who will be able to compete and who have nothing to do with the war. I assume they will not accept Listunova or Urazova who were more than happy to be seen by Putin s side.

They just train with those who support the war and with those who support the war. They participate in shows, competitions and master classes that promote war. The state that started and continues the war pays for their training.
Oh yes, they can support the war too. An amazing desire to deny the obvious.

You can not possible blame children and young teens for the actions of the adults near them. This is the exact type of thinking that will make people easier accept that Russia is back in sport competitions. I watch a bit of fencing and I really like what Olga Kharlan said in her latest ig story. The Ukr officials should not insist that fencers should be forced to boycott the competition just because the FIE leaders are garbage and decided to allow fencers from Russia back in the game.

No russian athlete has the right to compete in international competitions. And Olga Kharlan thinks so too. The fact that some federations sold themselves for russian money and allow them to compete does not mean that Ukrainian athletes are happy to compete with them.
Let russian children learn responsibility from an early age. A nation has already grown, which is not responsible for anything, but only putin. russian children should rejoice in the fact that they are alive and do not sit in basements.

They are taking money from and serving as tools of the corrupt government that is stealing & murdering many, many children. The world need not assign blame in order to refuse to support this corrupt system.

If those Russian athletes refuse to be funded by Putin (preferably at the time the war commenced, but at the very least now, not later), then one could have a serious conversation about offering a pathway to competition.

Otherwise, actions speak louder than words.

The actions of the Russian Federation. The actions of the athletes. The actions of the IOC. And now the actions of the international athletic federations.

I haven't been following gymnastics much outside of the Olympics, but I'm disappointed that the FIG gave in and ended the ban. I have more friends who follow gym than skating, so I asked about who might be a problem. They said that the guy who wore the Z at the competition last year is in no danger of qualifying to the Olympics. Apparently he's not that good to begin with. The youth army guy should, on paper, be banned from the Olympics given his background. They're not sure about the other guys who sent money to the troops, but they should also in theory should be banned for that. For the girls it's more complicated because almost everyone has had something to do with war support but only two girls have been sanctioned. On the rhythmic side, the Averina twins attended the Z rally and they also represent CSKA, so hopefully they're out too.
