Gymnastics News #15

Simone just does what she does.....and wins....again!

What a splat fest. But it's always good to see new faces on the podium. It keeps us from getting complacent. But the performances.....could have been better.

I feel for Alyssa Baumann, she's probably so effing pissed watching this final  Mustafina is too probably :shuffle:

Not impressed.

IIRC Afan actually scratched beam in qualifying (having been scheduled last)? I remember Russia being willing to count a fall.

Simone showing the newbies how to present their medals to the press on the podium, very cute. :) she's grown as a gymnast so much the past 3 years, she truly is one of the best of all-time and could compete with any gymnast before her.

But it's so polarizing when you consider the regression of the rest of the world, if we didn't have her we would be so screwed. It's kind of like having Nadia in a level 10 meet in the 70's.

I disagree many of the athletes would not push to this level, for instance, I think Ellie Black would tone down her routine difficulty. I think we will still get 3 or 4 in the finals try 6.0 plus routine but not

We still see some nice routines but the level of competition in WAG has regressed IMO, I'm also just in a mood. :p the scoring (and delays in scoring) has been really annoying and affected the performances of some of the gymnasts. I wanted Ellie Black to medal today, and then Seda falls too. Happy Sanne won silver but there was over a 1 point difference between gold and silver.

Men's PB final has been  and it's just underway

I really hope Simone continues past 2016. I have a feeling she might too. I think she would like to be able to compete some with the pressure finally off her.

Did Larduet qualify for HB final? I really want him to medal today, for all of the obvious reasons.

Thank god it's not taking 57 minutes to come up with these p-bars scores. I feel like I've been watching event finals for 10 hours already this morning and we're only halfway in.

 in a field of world-class parallel bar routines, how did the Japanese guy get the highest E-score? He definitely had a slight buckle on his one-bar skill.

Then again I'm not a judge, so..

Oleg Stepko (and Vernaev, but like Iordache he'd surely get the spot if Ukraine failed the test event) just qualified to Rio. Good for them!

Yesterday's qualifiers: Zapata (Spain), Merdinyan (Armenia), Petrounias (Greece)

ETA - Also just realized how lucky Shaefer got with that beam final.

Lieke is lovely on floor, loved the triple attitude spin and performance quality.

That tumbling though, right after Simone.. You couldn't have two completely different gymnasts on floor. That's kind of cool :D but she needs to upgrade that if possible!

Well done by Maggie, that should medal without any problems. She competed so well here! :glamor:

I haven't enjoyed Afan on floor that much since London, she did a nice job here. :inavoid: I hope Valentina lets her take a month or two off, she was a bit rushed back and looked to be in pain throughout the competition. 15.1 :cheer: into silver medal position

Frags has so much energy she could've easily piked that double arabian, steps out on double layout. She gave it all she had, really good energy but a bit sloppy in the knees on her tumbling and leaps.

Agree.....that tattoo is so distracting, though. And I think Frags is going to knock Maggie off the podium.
