Gymnastics News #15

If Iordache doesn't have a strong bar routine, Chansong Shang could end up breaking out and making the podium. She's currently ahead of Iordache and while vault is Shang's weakest event, it tends to score higher than bars.

Is there a reason why Wevers is opting out to do a simple dismount? Such a beautiful gymnast but why give up so many points?

:( Ellie off beam. Damn. I was hoping Wevers had got the bad beam karma out of the building.

most falls on BB are coming up on the right end of the apparatus. It is my experience that too much chalk on the fabric would actually make it slippery. I wonder if that's the case here...

Gabby was a bit wobbly on beam and left out some connections which will hurt her D score, but stayed on which is I think all I can ask for at this point.

Gabby got through beam but not without unsteady moments. I wonder what the margin will be.

Steingruber off on beam too, same skill as in quals.

That is probably the worst ever rotation I've seen for the top group on beam. Yikes.

Even though Gabby scored the same on beam as Simone with a fall , that 14.4 is great for her. It is the highest non-Simone American beam score at this competition!

Steingruber off beam too, Clear path to bronze for Iordache or Chungsong at this point.

Told you guys it's that right end of the bar...the surface must be smoother on hat side that it's affecting the gymnasts.

Onyshko in 10th? Would be something to have two Canadian gymnasts. Did Ellie finish 7th or 9th last year btw? Even if bronze is gone would be worth a PB.

ETA - and just saw that Isabella has beam remaining. Le sigh. :P

So my number one wish right now is that the competition gets done in time for my meeting in 35 minutes because I can't sit in suspense through the whole meeting. I think it can happen!

Ellie was 9th last year, so anything better than that would be a PB and a Canadian record.

I was in a bit of shock about Onyshko too (especially as she was the last qualifier), but didn't want to post for fear of jinxing her on beam, given how things have gone there.

ETA: And Onyshko just fell off beam. I blame @Lara :P

Drat, I am going to miss the end because I have to go pick up my hubby. But I'm so proud of Gabby and Simone!
