Gymnastics News #15

People still complain, and gym fans make snide comments, but why bother if nothing ever comes out of it. The 2000 situation happened only because Yang Yun accidentally revealed her true age on television. They tend to be smart about concealing it.

I'm honestly not sure it even helps them anymore. Maybe the past gymnasts were better, but I'm not finding their gymnastics as appealing to watch as before, even when clean. :(

IDK, that child on bars was pretty amazing.

Sad part is that the 2000 team is the one team I wouldn't have minded getting away with it. The had great and distinctive FX, best bars and beam, and some actual vaulters.

The Chinese lost something and aren't very memorable outside bars (and some on beam) any more. I wished they'd get rid of Adi Pop choreography and encourage different body types and have coaching that lets gymnasts continue to develop and learn skills past the age of 18.

I'd be really happy if either of Steingruber or Black won a medal. Then there's also Iordache, can there be a tie for bronze?

Gabby is getting better on bars, hit routine.

Now its uphill, to get clean on beam and repeat the floor routine she had at preliminaries

The live feed for the US is a touch behind being actually live and it's nice because in many cases the quick hits are updated before the gymnast goes on the live feed. It takes a bit of the stress away :)

Happy for a hit routine on bars for Ellie Black and her score up a few tenths on both events so far :cheer2:

Me too - would be either an amazing and historic accomplishment for a program like Switzerland or Canada or redemption for Iordache. I wouldn't complain about any one of them on the podium.

Gabby and Simone were great on UB, bronze still looks like anybodies game at this point. The next rotation is the crucial point of the competition.

Everybody in the top group doing well, kind of par for the course so far.

Yay Iordache brought back her double double mount, piked full in stuck, quad turn, triple twist big step, double pike small step. :cheer: if she gets through the next 2 events she should medal.

I am a bit worried about Gabrielle on beam and floor doing a repeat of what the US men did yesterday, bombing their weak apparatus and going not only out of the medals but even top4

No offence but the Chinese girl on BB looks like she belong in juniors. :shuffle:
Chungsong has been a senior since 2013 IIRC, age mishaps and Chinese gymnastics aside, not everyone ages at the same rate.

Simone's on beam in the background and they're not showing her live? #notimpressed

Gabby an Simone represent to the two body types of gymnasts an it's based on their genetics not just training which is very similar. I think they both look lovely an much more athletic than many of the other gymnasts.

Sorry for ignorant Q, but why did a Black only score 14.0 on bars?

I don't know enough to do a detailed technical analysis but Black's D-score is a few tenths less than many of the other top girls (in prelims 5.7 compared to 6+ for Simone, Gabby, etc.) and she has some sloppy moments on execution (e.g. on her Pak salto from the high bar to the low bar, her legs come apart).

Apparently Simone wants to give us a bit of suspense today.

Iordache :cheer: please keep it going
Sorry for ignorant Q, but why did a Black only score 14.0 on bars?

Her difficulty was only at a 5.8, for example Douglas' diffculty was at 6.4, aside from that deficit, theres also how much she gets in execution, she received an 8.2 where as others are around 8.6

Nevermind Erin beat me to it.

Simone BIG mistake on the front tuck, has to put her hand down and touches the beam so that will count as a FALL

still she has so many advantage she can take this, but not clean title this time

14.400

Simone is throwing the rest of the field a bone. They better take this opportunity and run with it.

Biles putting a little pressure on herself with that beam, nice to see Gabby improving .. Jordache looked strong in the last two events an crowd loves her
