Peacock has the Olympic Trial tiles up. They have tiles for each men’s and women’s events as well as the tiles for day 1 and 2 competition for men and women. I really like thatI can go back and watch the apparatus and all the atheletes that I enjoy most after the competition is over!

Question. For those of you who contribute regularly to this thread, do you want the discussion of Olympic Trials to be here, or on the Olympics 2024 page? I just wondered if someone would start a thread. I can but I don't think I'm the best poster to do it.

I would rather the discussion about the gymnastics trials stay here so it doesn't get lost with the other sports (feel the same about the swimming, diving, etc too). I don't always have time to wade through all the things so having all the gymnastics stuff here makes it easier for me to catch up. Just my opinion though!

The optimist in me says “great, get it over with” while my inner pessimist says “hyped team on tricky event = disaster.” My inner pessimist is more often correct.

When I was at Michigan, I used to prefer it when the Michigan women started on Beam because it seemed to be better for them psychologically. Even if they messed up, they did better trying to pull themselves back than trying to hold it together. I don't know that I've noticed the US women having that trait.

The US men will either completely mess up PH and try to pull themselves back up, which may be successful because they'll be motivated, or NOT mess up PH and then fold under the pressure of having actually done well on PH later. Like on High Bar.

I remember hearing about the Oly groups a while ago when they were first announced and my first reaction was THANK GOD the US teams both get those tense events out of the way early....hopefully I'm right and they do fine and then move on to their other events, LOL

If there is a thread for Olympic commercials we hate, I will move this there. In the meantime... that Munjaro commercial featuring Simone and mom Nellie is hammering on my will to live. Was there some arrangement with the USOC that forced Simone to make that commercial? It could not have been the money. I'm hoping she has enough to turn down future such travesties.

The one that's already gotten on my nerves, in just a single viewing, is the pharma one where the woman is on the sofa and calls out to her family that the pharma commercial they apparently all love is coming on and they come running from weight lifting in the garage and some other wannabe Oly sport training to the sofa for the pharma commercial. That is just way too meta even for the usual heavy-handed Olympic advertising.

Is the US team still not named? Isn’t that very short before the competition and allows then no down time? Can someone stay in peak form so long?

I think naming the team earlier and allow the athlets to peak at the Olympics would be better…

Yup - US Olympic Trials are June 27-30. They, along with Athletics which begins this weekend and runs through next weekend, are pretty much the last of the sports to select their teams this year, I think.

I was so hoping for a stinger after that commercial, but it never came! Can't we see the family on the sofa again?

Please remind me -- did the one with Madi and her mom feature a fake competition in a dinky gym with about eight people in the audience? And did Madi's mom wander around the competition surface and then drape a jacket across her shoulders?

A few years ago there was a pharma commercial featuring Laurie Hernandez and her dad, but at least in that one, the two were doing somewhat normal things, like picking up your daughter after practice.

That one is actually better than some of the stupid ads I’ve seen.

Watching track and field, we had the girl stranded on the beautiful deserted Island with rats nest in her hair who sprays it with dry shampoo and a hunk of a man tells her her hair smells good- what? And then there’s the lips commercial for NYX. Use that lipstick you’re gonna be a sex goddess (unlikely ?).

I had bought that dry shampoo, but I will not be buying it again. I do not want to encourage them to buy make more advertisements because they apparently are totally stupid.

But anyway between Jordan and Jade I think I'd take Jade, but I could see them taking Jordan too. They're similar gymnasts in terms of strengths (floor and vault) and weaknesses (bars and beam).

I think Jade will make if it she upgrades her floor. Her E scores haven't been great but honestly she could probably upgrade her full-in to a double double and not have it affect her E score. I'm curious what she will do. If her floor scores and ranking remain as they did at US championships I don't think she will make it.

So I agree that Biles, Jones, Blakeley and Lee are likely to make it and the final spot will be among DiCello, Chiles and Carey.

Me too. This is always one of my favourite meets to watch. So many emotions going back to the first trials i watched in 1988 (I was a huge Kristie Phililps fan so you can imagine what that was like!) I always think of what Cathy Rigby-McCoy said during her opening commentary for that event (youtube link at that moment https://youtu.be/l9KHNFtk5mM?si=JlpDPdoNtZoY53oV&t=220): "Only these gymnasts know the sacrifices that they have made to get here and only these gymnasts will know the joy or the pain at the end of today's competition."

At least they (and us) will know who the team is right away. The Canadian trials (which I judged at) ended two weeks ago and the women's team hasn't been announced yet (though coaches and athletes have been informed there is an appeal process etc). I don't know if anyone from FSU was there? I can't really say too much about the competition but I will say this was one of the largest and enthusiastic crowds I've seen at a Canadian gymnastics event and there was a great atmosphere for the athletes. I wasn't able to watch the senior men's event due to other obligations but I hear it was electric.
